Whale Oil dives deeper into dirt

Lurcher alerted me to this in a manner that was unsuitable for posting, but he makes a valid point – Whale Oil is sinking to shitty depths. One of the latest examples is a photoshopped image linking a Government MP to Charles Manson – I’m not linking to it and don’t want the image shown here.

It was posted under the authorship of ‘SB” – Spanish Bride, also known as Juana Atkins. She seems to have increased her management role at Whale Oil after the recent departure of Pete Belt.

Also posted under ‘SB’ recently was a  cartoon depicting African people as apes. Claiming ‘free speech’ is one thing but that doesn’t excuse being dirty and derogatory.

Posts under ‘Cameron Slater’ have also reverted to more of his bully blog style, with repeated petty labelling and name calling and derogatory comments. Political blogging reverting to it’s worst.

Yesterday alone, after other media had largely moved on, Whale Oil featured at least eight posts attacking MP Golriz Ghahraman and the Green Party.

That’s a gross misrepresentation, presumably deliberate, at best.

Whale Oil has also been running a sustained series of attack posts on Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern which have been at times blatantly misogynist.

All this dirt does is discredits Atkins, Slater and Whale Oil even more (if that’s possible) and gives critics justification for proclaiming the return of ‘Dirty Politics’, which has already been done, associating David Farrar and Kiwiblog and Jordan Williams, who have also been attacking Ghahraman, and also the National Party by association.

This goes far outside acceptable standards of political coverage.

Dirty bully blogging is back as Whale Oil sinks into the mud, while hypocritically regularly applauding their standards.

Sorry PG had another go SORRY

    • Fair to point out the depths WO is going to, but don’t get dragged down to their sub-standards in calling it out.

Is that really a gross misrepresentation? I don’t have much time for WO but it seems to have an element of truth to me.

    • There may be a small element of truth but there is a large element of misrepresentation.

It’s like accusing Slater of being responsible for Israeli brutality against Palestinians because he supports Israel.

      It’s low and dirty politics.

I don’t see it as being on a different level to the universal “National doesn’t care about …”. That is politics as usual. Misrepresentation for ever.

        • It probably is on a similar level to the ‘National hates poor people and children’ sort of thing – which I also condemn, rather than use one leaning of dirt to excuse another.

The photos of Golriz beaming alongside her war criminal would tend to confirm the allegation for most people.

I don’t think Farrar gives a stuff whats posted on his blog, zero moderation from yesterday but it will be the same today, the right is struggling to come to terms,.., this post was about #45 POTUS

    howitis

Drunken Gooner on TV3 interviewed a guy this morning who was all positive about the elected Commander in Chief, President Trump.

All Gooner could try and do was defend Moozlems. Poor Moozlems. One speed gearbox.
He just had to sit back and take ‘real news’ because this was an invited guest.

Cankles Ingrid (Does TV3 have any half decent women who are not shrieking nasties?) got all upset.
It was a joy to behold. 🙂

Hey we have had over 12 months of their nastiness so a five minute break was welcome.
..And now, after 5 minutes of real news we return to BAU, Fake News, and mind-bending Bullsh*t.

Watching the sexual harassing creeps get their comeuppance under President Trump is a wonderful thing. …oh, and the economy is pretty good as well.
incl. items Diff Perspective says above at 2.36.

The nasty women like Streep, Ashley Judd, or Madonna, are still living in the USA and benefiting from MAGA.
They will still harp on. Leftie disconnect.
It is lovely to see the Nasties squirm!
    Oh yeah!

    Howling at the moon deplorables

    • I had a bit of a look at Kiwiblog yesterday, and many of the comments were clearly substandard. Farrar has always had very lenient moderation but what gets said reflects poorly on Kiwiblog – I think this may become a problem for Farrar, especially with the diving of standards at Whale Oil and the inevitable linking of them and ‘Dirty Politics’.

Some of the criticisms of FB that have come out this week are themselves over the top but the Dirty Politics mud is already attached to FB, and ongoing poor standards of comments reinforce that image.

      • Farrar has an “adults” rule Pete. He will crack down on extreme stuff. But he does let idiots post what they want within bounds – so they expose themselves as idiots. Some of what gets posted is OTT and it gets called. But there is more sustained and interesting back and forth’s on Kiwiblog than anywhere else. Any the community is remarkably self policing via down ticks and reporting

At the Standard – disagree with the flow and Weka bans you, or OAB stalks you posts and starts flame wars with impunity

At WOBH – well its total control with banning threats or bans for question some of their scared cows… That shall not speak ill of judith is almost an 11th commandment

        TDB – ha joke

Bowalley Blog – another free with the ban hammer and also a place quick to label anything right of Trotters preferred position a “national socialist” or fascist….

Its not to bad here but i wouldn’t say the level of comment here is anywhere better than kiwiblog…

        • I agree there can be some very good comments at KB, and at greater volume so overall better than here, but there’s a lot of crap that detracts from KB as well, and gives plenty of ammunition to detractors.

          • and a lot of the crap flows from a few crack pots like EAD, KEA [in his/her various guises] and half wits like Morrisey et al there to troll.

As i posted yesterday Golriz Ghahraman is the latest target of the right but i stated the average Joe Blog in the street doesn’t care that she was on the defense team in Rwanda. They look at her, BRIGHT, articulate a young lawyer, an MP and then they look at the howling loons on the right baying for her blood(Farrar and Cam Slater ETC) or at least her resignation, NAH shes going on to be the deputy co-leader of the greens i would say. but don’t quote me.

If the average Joe in the street doesn’t care about GG…then they wouldn’t have a clue who the Whaler and Kiwiblog are. It’s politics, son. The Right have an agenda to see these merry socialists out at the next election. Anything goes. You as a Lefty should know that.

Alan I’m puzzled at your previous claims of not being “right wing.” In what world is Classical Liberalism not a right wing ideology?

            • Gezza

               /  December 2, 2017

              I don’t think he’s a classic liberal. Think you’ll find he’s a classic libertarian. But, we’ll see.

               /  December 2, 2017

Snowflake, I summarise it as advocating social and economic freedom. I identify right wing as being conservative re both which is never my position.

            • phantom snowflake

               /  December 2, 2017

Dammit I’m struggling to find a reputable link, but certainly in many places Classical Liberalism is classified as right wing. Your use of “right wing” and “conservative” as if they are synonymous is odd. (Right) Libertarianism and Anarcho-Capitalism, for example, are clearly right wing but not conservative.

              What defines right wing then?

              Right-wing
              From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Someone who is right-wing in politics is usually someone who supports social or economic conservatism. In other words, someone who is “right-wing” usually supports tradition and the way things are. People who are extremely right-wing are called “reactionary”, and want to either return to the way things were before, such as neoreaction, or more often start as a reaction against left-wing ideas which are spreading in a country.

The right-wing supports tradition and authority. The right-wing in some countries, like the United States, may also usually be in support of social liberalism and a capitalist economy where the government has little influence. Usually the right-wing thinks of society as similar to a living thing, what is called “organic society”. They believe that society’s customs and traditions are a collection of things that we have learned from the past and are useful and should be maintained as much as possible.-https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing

None of that matches my philosophy or beliefs.

Excepting maybe this bit which seems to contradict everything else:
The right-wing in some countries, like the United States, may also usually be in support of social liberalism and a capitalist economy where the government has little influence.

Little snippet hidden inside a WOBH post was that Jacinda Adern spent time in hospital recently. Contained in a posting regarding an article from Barry Soper that suggested that Winston Peters becomes the next prime minister if Jacinda Adern “retires” from the PM’s position due to stress.

As can be seen any political blog can be used to publish and direct commentary in the direction served by the political leanings off their authors.

Be it Kiwiblog, WoBH, The Standard. The Daily Blog, Pundit, Bowalley Road, etc., etc.,

One needs to read each blog from the perspective of the contributors and read between the lines.

Even on here, the anti Trump bias is pretty strong but one has the option to ignore, just like any other blog.

I wouldn’t go that far. The truth is this blog is on its last legs with Pete signalling he’s thinking of moving on. Of course the Leftwing don’t give a crap about Whaleoil. That’s why the trolls are there taking the piss. Although it seems some of the long time trolls have been seduced a little.

        • “The truth is this blog is on its last legs with Pete signalling he’s thinking of moving on.”

I said other priorities meant likely scaling back next year, but at this stage I have no plan for ‘moving on’.

  11. Now Pete has gone the brakes are off.
