  • Please don’t post anything illegal, potentially defamatory or abusive.

FIRST TIME COMMENTERS: Due to abuse by a few first comments under any ID will park in moderation until released (as soon as possible but it can sometimes take a while).

Sometimes comments will go into moderation or spam automatically due to mistyped ID, too many links (>4), or trigger text or other at risk criteria.

Free speech is an important principle here but some people who might pose a risk to the site will have to keep going through moderation due to abuses by a small number of malicious people.

  1. The title of this blog, Your NZ looks disturbingly like, Your NaZi. Pete, can you do something about this unconscious association? Your NS (New Sealand) perhaps? Many people, especially those on the Right are rightly sensitive to allusions such as you’ve (inadvertently) created with the name of your blog.

Hitting the hard stuff a bit early today Robert?

    • Are you deliberately being a twit? This comment seems particularly stupid.

Well, no, Pete: “Free speech for those who don’t threaten free speech”, remember? It’s a light-hearted dig. Relax a bit.

        • If intended as a light hearted dig it is very lame Godwinning. You can sometimes be intelligent but this is not one of those times.

Associating anyone or anything with Nazi is widely seen as dirty.

Just for your information, I have never associated “Natz” with Nazi, hence my surprise at your response at the time. I see z and s as being commonly interchanged. Never mind.

            • And as I pointed out yesterday I have commonly seen Natz interchanged with Natzi at The Standard. You may turn a blind eye to things like that there.

It’s just one of those things about this blog these days that you learn to refrain from or you cop a deletion when spotted by the mod.

It’s not difficult to grasp, Robert.

It’s no different from learning that, if you’re Pete George, and you post on The Standard, you cop an insult or two about beigeness, & then a ban when spotted by the mod.

“Twit”? Bit of an ad hom there, Pete! I thought you considered yourself above that sort of thing.

In your case take it as a compliment!

        • I asked you a fairly mild question Robert, considering that you tried to associate this site with ‘Nazi’ . Don’t you consider you should be above that sort of thing?

          • robertguyton

             /  December 14, 2017

Well, Pete, at risk of incurring the wrath of your supporters here, I’ll extend my comments to say that my intention was, not to “associate this site with ‘Nazi” but to draw your attention to the curious flimsiness of your argument that “Natz” is necessarily associated with “Nazi”. Of course you can rightly insist that to you it does, but it doesn’t for me and you view is further weakened by the odd spelling you use for Nazi, “Natzi”, which seems to be part of the problem and explains why you might feel that the two words are associated. Natz or Nats seems to me equivalent and while some my use it in the manner you derscribe, over on The Standard and elsewhere, I don’t and consequently found Natz entirely benign. Of course I accept your ruling, but not your logic, I have to say. Hence my comment this morning, where I noted that your own header has the potential to be misconstrued, in the same way as I believe you see the title Natz. I don’t mean to prattle on, but like you, enjoy teasing out an issue till all of it’s possibilities are explored. That can only happen when those in discussion arte allowed freedom of speech, as your sub-title promises.

Enoch Powell’s speech is full of weasel words.

The saying ‘What can he know of England, who only England knows ?’ was not dated then and isn’t dated now. Who can possibly have a balanced view of anywhere or anything if they only know that one place or thing ?

He shows wilful ignorance of English history-had he never heard of the Picts-the Anglo-Saxons-the Jutes and Danes-the Normans-the Flemings-the Hugenots…and all the others who have come to England over the years ?

The English Royal family were often not English ! Had he heard of the Hanovers and King William of Orange-and the others who married into the various Royal families ?

He couldn’t have studied the English language.

His own name isn’t English, forsooth, it’s Welsh !

One of his followers, whose name has escaped me, had the charming campaign slogan ‘If you want a nigger for a neighbour, vote Labour.’ I think that he stood in Smethwick or a name like that.

Blazer, we all know what Nazi was short for, it is totally disingenuous to say that that makes it all right to use of anyone who is National and a socialist. It’s a gross insult to call anyone that unless they are one.

Anyone who sees NZ as Nazi must see ANZ, WINZ, BNZ, Radio NZ, NZSale and Split ENZ as meaning that…

I notice you argue like a SJW never address the actual point. The point is that Golriz is a hypocrite as are many liberal/progressives who are just as much part of the problem as anyone else.

      • robertguyton

         /  December 14, 2017

The “point” is, sorethumb, that you pointlessly claim that people such as Golriz are hypocrites, forgetting or rather ignoring the fact that there is no one who does not use the products and services of the modern world: fossil fuels etc. meaning your list of hypocrites conveniently and pointlessly covers everyone who might want to criticise such activities. In Golritz’s case, you want only to harm her reputation by your comments, imo, so I feel compelled to haul you up on your “low-level” hypocrisy 🙂
        What’s a SJW?

The difference between Greens and others who travel and use modern products is that many Greens condemn the use of fossil fuels etc but still use them as much as anyone else. This can only be seen as hypocrisy. Do that which I say, not that which I do.

James Shaw doesn’t drive on principle-but he is happy to be driven by other people.

By the way, Robert, I may agree with you on this one, but it’s a one-off !

    Query for Robert Guyton:

Robert, is there any substance to rumours the Green Party is in disarray? And, do you think my prediction of a new break-away Green Party may come to fruition?

    • robertguyton

       /  December 14, 2017

      Answer for Corky:
Corky, I haven’t heard anything to suggest that. I hope it isn’t true, as I believe we need a party such as the Greens to drag the middle, eventually, into areas that would otherwise be addressed too late. I don’t believe your prediction of a break-away Green Party is realistic at all; the Blue Greens can’t make any ground despite National’s spin-machining, so any other efforts won’t succeed, imo. A single, focused environmental party couldn’t succeed, as it would be too vulnerable to criticisms of being too narrow and unrealistic. The Greens have made the best of a difficult job, in my view. In these early days and wielding some power at last, they are doing okay. Many would have expected them to self-destruct once in Governance, but this present situation is mostly spin, spun by their detractors, as far as I can see.

I see that Labour is taking the easy way out-dishing out money in the belief that this will stop child poverty. Good luck with that one, Jacinda.

Why on earth should people on high incomes be paid to have children when they are already being paid to stay at home and look after them ? It seems that those without children for whatever reason are considered to be of much less importance and to be less deserving-we can subsidise those much better off than we are and not be expected to mind doing this. Our proposed tax cuts have been set aside to go to families who don’t need the money and others who are unlikely to make good use of it.

There is a sop to the elderly in the form of heating handouts.

      • Kitty Catkin

         /  December 14, 2017

I have many ideas. I have just heard labour saying it. They have just decided on our behalf that we don’t mind not having tax cuts, we are only too happy for it to go to other people-even those on incomes several times the size of our own.

What you should have said is ‘have you ?’ , not ‘do you.’ Or ‘You don’t have…do you ?’

Labour is giving us heaps of money for winter. Hey, maybe these dudes aren’t all bad. Hell, I can spend that on what I want. Hold on- pensioners, beanies and families with kids.

Bit of exciting drama at Welly airport as I was disembarking tonite. A young, maybe 20-something chap in fashionable camo pants & cap about 4 or 5 people ahead of me coming up the arrivals gangway, where the Gates are, before you get into the main airport area where all the Food & Magazine shops are, was pulled aside by two middle aged policemen.

When I looked back, like everybody else, the two cops had grabbed him by an arm each & appeared to be making an arrest. He was having none of it though. He suddenly wrenched himself free and hared off up the gangway, weaving around the thronging passengers, ploughed straight into a large unsuspecting group of them, shoving them aside, sent three of them, including a poor little old lady, down on top of each other in a bewildered heap, wondering what the hell just happened, and disappeared at hi speed around into the main airport area.

The two cops made an attempt to run after him but were way too slow, & had to get on their radios. It was all the talk of the baggage claimers! Not something you see every day. I saw the two cops later as I walked to my waiting Shuttle. “Did you get him?” “No, unfortunately, he was too fast! No idea where he is!”

So what you’re saying G, is that you stashed all the marijuana that you brought back from ‘up north’ in his suitcase, and he got ‘sprung’? If I were you, I’d be keeping that info to myself, LOL 😀

      • Gezza

         /  December 14, 2017

To be honest I was surprised the cop said anything. Around here if you ask them what’s going on if something’s obviously up – they often don’t want to talk about it, & just peremptorily ask you to move on – the younger ones anyway. Lost all notion of community policing.
