    STREAM REPORT

Just got back yesterday from a really great 3 week holiday visiting Sir Alan & Possum in Northland. Great company & Al’s cabins are located in a really beautiful wilderness spot – just ask Possum!

Back at my stream, Charlie is nowhere to be seen but man those ducklings born before I left who’ve survived their stream predators have sure grown fast. Four of the dozen or so ducks down in my stream last night look just Like Charlie, but a bit smaller. Hope he flies in sometime in the next day or two. If not, looks like he’s got strong genes & left a few lookalikes in his place.

Unusual to see the stream so full of ducks, Charlie used to patrol the water below my place daily & move intruders on, to keep the numbers of other freeloaders & showoff purebreed drakes down.

The stream was full of eels near nightfall last nite – all visible at the same time – at least 3 grey native longfin tuna & 1 Australian shortfin, a different colour – more of a green-brown, but quite big. He’s new. Elvis, the biggest longfin, was out from his stump-lair, cruising about down in te wai terrorising any ducks which got too close. Bluey, the young male pook, standing in the stream, quietly & attentively observed all this for a while, then just casually strolled on up to stand right over Elvis, and then suddenly stabbed him, midway down towards his tail end, thru the water. Elvis got the message & immediately took off under cover under the overhanging foliage on the far parenga.

Both Pooky, the big Koro Pukeko, & Bluey the ballsy young pretender, heard me call this morning when I heard them screech in the distance, & have both been up to see me, on separate visits, for some wheat & a korero. No visit from Bluebelle yet.

    Ends.

There are a lot of young dux around here, which is nice to see,Down along the backwaters, through the rushes tall/Dux are a-dabbling, up-tails all.

Also many, many Monarch butterflies. I saw at least 5 on my way down the street, inc. two doing a dance in the air.

It is HOT. HOT, HOT, HOT. It is TOO HOTTTTTTTT…

Yes Gezza Absolutely Fanbloodytastic little hol. With lunches and dinners at fancy as Resturants. Movies in the town hall. G
With Gezza Frecking me out mildly driving Alans 4×4 gulp. Men drive like some ones chasing them always. He got good real fast, as I’m hanging on. Gezza this isn’t like your Mazarati type car. No offence Gez😲
The Kauri trees in Russell ngahere are spectacular With Al the Head guide, power walking with out breaking a sweat, Gezza one step behind, hard to keep up with those fit buggas.
Nah I was in heaven! all that nature just off the country road.
Fluffy the possum aptly named by Gezza looks real cute. Honestly, Gez said “shooo go away some one might try and kill you, wont be me”.
All in all a bloody great experience. Nuttas and Crackers club for sure.
Yea and next time I meander over there we will be climbing Sir Alan maunga, just because we can. 😎

Bluebelle’s built a little sleeping spot or nest just below the BSblockwall, Possum. She was busy weaving cover all around it, to hide it, & won’t come out, I can just see her little red beak. She’s hiding from the boys, & I have to talk very softy to her so they don’t hear me & come looking for her. They all know their own & each other’s names.

I am not jealous, Gezza. Not even remotely. Couldn’t care less.

I won’t be asking Sir Alan to put his Mrs on the line again when he’s talking BS, Kitty. She said she’s not interested. We all sound like nutcases.

Well, really. What on earth would make someone think that ?

I think Al’s probably described what a few here are like. I know I did. No names though. 😐

            I wonder who….I can’t think of anyone like that… :-/

As Robert Owen said ‘All the world is queer but thee and me, and even thou art a little queer.’

And John Dryden said that ‘There is a pleasure, sure, in being mad, which none bu madmen know.’

I am taking time off from painting a table with daisies, which seemed like a good idea at the time as it’s an outdoor one. The second coat is drying, then the daisy middles will go on. The table was made from scrap wood-very easy.

Crikey that sounds difficult. Wouldn’t it be easier painting it with a brush or roller or sprayer? 😳

The legendary Joe Pass who had an influence on Steve Vai and many others. He once famously said ” if you play a bum note just make sure you play a good note after it.” Which is all fine and dandy if you can do musical calculations at the speed of ”Deep Blue.” While Pass could, most of us can’t.

That, IMHO, is nothing short of splendid. I’ve heard it before, but had to listen to it again. One of the reasons I love covers, is because of how much better modern recording equipment is. Listening to that track thru’ my headset, sounds as good as it would in the studio. Here’s one for you Phantom (& anyone else who cares to listen)

Nice sound. Nice guitar. Bet the tonewood is Brazilian Rosewood.

It’s a trick we all learn in regular playing to audiences. If you hit a bum note, play the right one immediately afterward, like he says, & then as soon as the timing is right, repeat that same bum note+right note sequence. It then sounds like an embellishment, or that it’s meant to be played that way. Nobody notices.

Yup G, I remember that ‘trick’ well.
‘Back in the day’, I had a very talented drummer flatmate, and we loved to ‘smash this one out’, after enjoying a few ‘refreshing beverages’, and a couple of ‘spots’ off the stovetop. I caught up with an old friend last weekend, and he asked me if I was still playing. Reckons that we did this number better than anyone else. I had a bit of a laugh to myself, inside my head. It’s nothing but powerchords, played loud. And a drumkit being smashed hard. Still though, it was fun at the time. It isn’t hard to ‘sing’ and play this simultaneously, at all…

Here’s another one, that we used to be pretty good at. I rarely had to sing this one, as our drunken visitors all knew the words to it, which is a tad ironic really 😀 .
