The latest piece of ‘oratory’ by Shane Jones:

Jones said National’s legacy was “fetid water and diseased kauri”. “As long as Fonterra keeps the milk squirting from the udder these other things appear to have lost priority.”

He [Jones] also warned that any bureaucrat who had been “fiddling around” would be gone faster than the kauri.

That could get interesting if the Opposition pick it up. Jones interfering in employment matters that are supposedly the sole preserve of Government Departments, not Ministers, perhaps?

Yet more populist posturing from Jones, in my view. Comes with bonus unintended irony!

Yep, nobody does hypocrisy like the Left:

I especially liked Weka’s comment about the Left doing it too but “it’s different” without actually, like, saying, why it’s different.

But seriously Pete, how long do you expect to last over there winding up the natives like that?

He’s not that prolific. Pete only posts there in between bans.

Sorry to go off topic; just wondered if you had seen: “Gezza you sound like a Maori trougher

No, I hadn’t until now. But I tend to just skip over a heck of a lot of sorethumb’s posts. All that does is confirm I’m getting that policy right.

Doesn’t matter what Sorekonui says about Gezza or anything else
pertaining to Maori he will always play the game of racism.
I am Programmed NOT to receive from that one.
Gezza is himself, true to what he believes in, Maori or non Maori.

Former Opportunities Party (TOP) candidates say the party’s board did not allow any internal criticism of the party.
TOP leader Gareth Morgan publicly announced he would step down from leading the party last week, pending a new leader being selected.
Three further resignations were swiftly announced.

Won’t let them out at night. Or in the day. Shoots any that wander onto his patch. Flips the bird at anyone who challenges that.

It does smack of nepotism, but his credentials do make him pretty well-suited to the role.

      • Alan Wilkinson

         /  December 18, 2017

I don’t think it is nepotism at all, but if Nats had done similar there would have been screams for years from the Left.

           /  December 18, 2017

To which “Lefty screams of nepotism” do you refer Alan?

If there are any, how exactly have they been silenced by this?

            • PartisanZ

               /  December 18, 2017

That “kind of stuff” may look similar to you Alan, but it looks distinctly different to me.

So, where in the Ross Ardern appointment is the similarity with “Gutting one of NZs biggest suicide counselling lines at a time of spiking suicide to give the contract to Bill English’s wife isn’t just ‘bad optics’ it’s a lack of perspective that screams arrogance at such a frequency that it shatters the eyeballs in their sockets.”? [Bradbury]

While essentially Christian-values-based, Lifeline maintains a highly professional, progressive, diverse and multicultural approach to their work. And when we look a bit deeper –

“News of the terminated Lifeline contract comes just days after an international expert told an Auckland conference of mental health workers – and ministry officials – that training, particularly the programme run by Lifeline, was one of the most important suicide-prevention strategies worldwide.” – http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11897331

“He [Andrew Little] raised serious concerns about the six-month hiatus between Lifeline’s funding being cut and the new provider stepping in.” (ibid)

Oh come on, Mary didn’t tell Bill she was going for a major new suicide funding proposal? Bill had no idea? The officials deciding on the funding didn’t know she was Bill’s wife?

Its funny how corruption and patronage are perfectly acceptable when it comes to the National parties friends and families and don’t see anything wrong with it.

Barry, despite what you say, it’s still pretty hard not to view Ms English’s involvement as a conflict of interest, nepotism, whatever you want to call it.

              etc.

I’m glad we’ve got someone like you to hold the loony left to account for their hypothetical actions. Keep up the important work.

I’d love to spend my days posting WhaleOil articles as examples of the “ridiculous right”, but I realise that those fringe agitators don’t reflect the vast bulk of real right-wingers. Nor would that make my own views any more valid. Besides, I have much better things to do with my time.

               /  December 18, 2017

              So not hypothetical.

               /  December 18, 2017

Rather than call-out the real folks on the right who are calling it nepotism right now, and with whom you disagree, you instead saw it just as an opportunity to score a cheap shot against the entire left.

            • Alan Wilkinson

               /  December 18, 2017

Fair point re the handful calling it nepotism now. It isn’t – as Farrar said. Did the “entire left” stand up for Mary English or for John Key against the abuse he got? Maybe they did, but I don’t recall it.

So … Lefties scream ……… and Righties scream that they’ve silenced Lefties screaming by screaming about the same things the Lefties screamed about?
