  1. Gezza, wondered whether you ever sang or performed “Blackbird”. To my mind this is a song most people appreciate, t’s got great guitar work and being avian in nature might appeal to you.

I’ve never learned it trav but I’ve sung it while someone else played it. I’m a Beatles fan, those guys more than anyone else inspired me to buy my first guitar, jump on any piano I found anywhere (I once played blues on the grand piano in the atrium in New Zealand House in London while waiting for someone & a small crowd gathered up on the mezzazine floor un-noticed by me & burst into applause when I finished – I was quite young & shy then & very embarrassed).

Blackbird seems to be a song most budding young guitarists still learn, along with Stairway To Heaven. I’m just too lazy to learn either.

It annoys me that original album release Beatles songs (& Dylan with The Band songs) can’t be found on YouTube because Sony – or whichever Corporation holds the copyright now – won’t allow them to be posted there. Whenever they appear they get pulled within 24 hours.

      • I’d have loved to have witnessed the blues at NZ House!

Beatles – what a band, how they changed this earth of ours. What a subject. Love them all I guess. Today, I’m going to go with a very early one just because it sprang to mind and I like the names Desmond and Molly.

        • It’s also one of the first I leaned to play

personally I rate this as one of the Beatles absolute worst, grating, songs they ever did…they did so many I guess they have to have some …clangers.

Yeah, I had to be in the mood for it, must admit – but it was such a *clanger* they & 2 other groups had hits with it.

            I love music snobs.

What did you think of “Her Majesty’s A Pretty Nice Girl” & “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road”?

          • There we go, I bow to your superior knowledge and taste and general perfectness in all matters

            • I have to be in the mood for ALL music Gezza. There’s very few pieces I can play anytime anywhere

This comes close. I find solace, poignancy, beauty and joy in this. Very reflective piece for me.

not at all…purely a personal thing..people have different tastes.

            • My tastes are wide and varied as I am sure you’be noticed . As I said to Gezza, I need to be in the mood for most music.

I know Her Majesty’s a Very Nice Girl, but not the other one.

  2. “One day our generation gonna rule the population”. Great lyrics, great song, great artist. (Also a great guitar piece)

      sounds like James Morrison…

      • They’re a particular genre, both amazing singers and I like them equally. “Waiting on the World to change” has a poignancy given the politics of the day, even though we’re not allowed to do that theme in here. 😇

I like quite a few by Mayer & Morrison too trav. One of Morrison’s – I like the way this one’s constructed.

      • I really love this. It’s got that lovely old one note up, one note down rock and roll beat opening it and running through it du,du,du,du.du,du arrangement. I immediately thought of the Righteous Bros and Unchained Melody. It’s very reassuring. I looked it up and the
best example I can find of that beat is this one

        Others are:

Elvis – I Can’t Help Falling In Love

        Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody

Animals – House of the Rising Sun

        Chicago – Color My World

The sun’s come out but after a wild cold wet nite it’s still blowing a gale down at the pooks’ nest. I’ve fed all 3 pooks & spotted Pickles the pooklet. Bluey was feeding it, but he made it hide when I tried to video them, the rotter. Pooklet’s definitely got a little red plate on her head. Only ever seen the babies from a distance so I wasn’t sure if they had one when born.

They’ve refreshed the nest & carried the old nest bedding out & dumped it a couple of feet away. Pickles is quite strong for a baby. It was yanking on some foliage, trying to pull it out. They eat a wide variety of foods – & certain plants they seem to know to pull out & eat the roots of, while they eat the foliage or seeds, or berries, of others.

They’re mostly vegetarian, but also eat invertebrates, eggs, frogs, small fish, chicks and mammals, especially in breeding season where chicks are fed protein-rich animals

Car food or dog kibble go down a treat when they have young.

Yep, I know Griff. I’ve been studying my lot for 3 years. Bluey can’t stand strawberries or blueberries. The other two will eat them but Bluey tried one & spat it out yesterday. Same as he did with a strawberry early in November. They all like blackberries though.

And Fledgy Blackbird, and Aspen, half an hour ago, thru my dining room window.
Fledgy is asking for peace and quiet.
        Aspen is asking for wheat.

Car food, Griff ??? Petrol or diesel ?

I have just seen the bellbird-there might have been two (hope, hope, hope) unless it was whizzing around and just looked like two…by good luck, the January Calendar Bird is Miss Bellbird 2018, and what is in my garden is the same bird. I couldn’t be more pleased. It’s like having a lovely present.

This gem slipped under the radar a few years back. The band is basically ex-members of Evanescence with an American Idol contestant on vocals.

    • She has a nice voice and the video is very freaky – I even like the band. I had that recurring nightmare of being buried alive. I made Mum promise that if I did die they’d put a breathing tube into my coffin.

I have been afraid to sleep in a sleeping bag zipped all the way up since I read about some campers being attacked by a grizzly bear-one girl’s sleeping bag zipped and her last words were screamed ‘Oh my God, he’s ( ripped ) my arm off…..’ The stuff of nightmares. It’s been years since I slept in a sleeping bag and I hope that I never have to again, but I always had the zip halfway down so that I could get out in a hurry.
