That Te Mata Peak thing; we are being conned : “te ao Maori” – you wouldn’t want to be insensitive /racist would you?
This looks like identity politics in action (as prescribed by Spoonley and others on the left). That’s why a Chinese Garden is coming to a town near you?
We are being asked to over ride rational debate.

There has been one in Hamilton for many years and it’s a lovely thing. The Hamilton Gardens also have Indian, Japanese, English and other gardens.

“We are all migrants” is a fallacy (hasty generalisation) Susan Devoy has a go here:

I wonder what can be made of her claims in the last part of this video (returned forces Maori not allowed to drink in the pub etc. Some people are out to take down anyone they can Eg “fatso” etc). Ethnocentrism has a flip side and migration is about territory (mutuality – what is in it for the people when sending and receiving are seperate catagouries?

Well, there’s nobody in NZ whose ancestors at least didn’t migrate here.

But what about those who had ancestors arrive with the gold rushes or Wakefield settlements? Devoy is lumping those people with those who came with Labour’s diversity program.

Well, she can be very silly, but it’s still true that everyone came here from somewhere else-or their ancestors did.

Pleasing to see Trumps approval rating at the 45% mark as his presidency continues to deliver real results. Massive job creation in December and pleasing to see black unemployment at 17 year low, the Dow has passed 25000 and more companies announcing bonuses for their staff following the passing of the tax bill.
The pressure he has put on democrat mayors, particularly Chicago, is seeing genuine results too with a 10% reduction in shooting homicides. Fear of being on the recieving end of Trumps tweets seems to have been enough for Emanuel to finally put some coppers back on Chicago,s streets.
2018 will be another great year as Trump settles in and the momentum continues and the upgrading of Americas crumbling infrastructure gets his attention.

    • “Pleasing to see Trumps approval rating at the 45% mark ”

      Which poll?

Rasmussen tends to favour Trump and their latest is 44% approval. Economist/YouGov also favour Trump and have his approval at 43%.

others are less favourbale, with the current RCP average at 40.4% Approve (with 55.9% Disapprove).

      https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_trump_job_approval-6179.html

FiveThirtyEight has Trump at 38.5% disapprove and 55.15 approve.

      Fake news…

David, that’s a ridiculous comment to make – you are completely delusional if you truly believe your (pluck a number from alt-right thin air) fake popularity figures.

Despite the roaring economy that is part of Obama’s legacy, trump is the most unpopular first-year president in the history of modern polling. His average job approval as measured by FiveThirtyEight stands at 38% and his disapproval at nearly 60. (PG, your 538 numbers are as dodgy as David’s).

trump claims that he is as popular as Obama was at this point in his presidency, but thats just another barefaced lie from the Liar-in-Chief. At the start of 2010, an average 46% of Americans approved of Obama’s job performance, to 49% who disapproved.

And while impeachment has yet to enter the larger political conversation, the constituency for removing him from office is larger than the one that backs his continued presence in the office of POTUS.

Distrust and disdain for trump was the major factor driving the Democratic wave that swept Virginia’s state elections, and it helped level the field in Alabama.

trump’s an unpopular figure who won the White House by the skin of his teeth, becoming president despite losing the majority of voters by winning just enough votes in the right places. And in the first year of his presidency, he’s done nothing to convince the skeptics that he’s worthy of respect or support.

Tell it to the economy. Tell it to people like me, lapping up the changes, rejoicing in the destruction of worthless conventions. Maybe you should reflect on what the world would be like under Hillary, and the next POTUS? I can tell you now what things will be like. Mediocre mush. Hollow words and worthless gestures.

and yet JBloggs he will be re elected in 2020. He won despite being all the things you guys hate and he hasnt changed a bit and his base love it, for many other Americans their wages are finally going up and someone in Washington appears to be on their side and they will hold their nose and vote for him again because the Democrat will try winning by repeating all the bollocks you spout. People like to vote for winners and on any measure that matters trump is winning.

I see China wants to lift 40 plus million of its own people out of poverty within three years time. One News had an item showing Chinese villagers in a remote region having to climb for an astounding two hours up a ladder/scaffold, with no safety features, just to reach their cliff-top village.

Intelligent people, Chinese. They know poor people are problematic people who cause trouble for society and the government. However, there’s a major flaw in their plan. These beautiful new housing estates for the poor, will become tomorrows slums, breeding more discontent among poor people and creating a huge criminal class. It wont take long for former villagers, used to open spaces, becoming stir-crazy looking at four walls.

Still, that is an advantage for the West. The only way China will be defeated is from within. Roll on fifty years.

  7. Came across this Monty Python skit on arguing. Made me laugh and think of (some) blogs and their regular commenters, and also the role of the Opposition.

Could apply just as much to those who easily get offended – and seem to enjoy it.
