Doesn’t seem to change much for his situation. I’ve always wondered whether they’ve considered trying to smuggle him out in diplomatic luggage, or whether that would be inspected or x-rayed as soon as it left the embassy gates, or at the air or sea port, and he’d be nabbed by the constabulary then.

Giving him diplomatic status now would seem the obvious way out.

Except that the Brits have to agree to accord him diplomatic status and they won’t.

    What has the response been?

The backlash against the letter, however, has not been front-page news and is not trending on Twitter in France. The reason may be that controversy over exposing sex pests has been rumbling on for several months now in France.

The debate has mostly pitted those belonging to the older generation, who view #Metoo and similar campaigns as a threat to the sexual liberation achieved in the 1960s, against younger, activist types who feel that the battle against harassment is the latest stage in the fight for women’s rights.

News: ” ___ is Raining down” on [them] and [?] Including ? ( first to expose Harvey Wienstien) who said on twitter “blah, blah with knobs on to you – and put that up your pipe and smoke it”!

Old timers might be bemused at the casual changes to language in the media. Jumping in the time machine with a tape of Radiosport of today would have listeners in shock.

Big Peter Jones of 1956 ‘I’m absolutely buggered’ fame would smile though at Herald headlines today. “Why have people from shithole countries come here?” and “Trump attacks protections for immigrants from ‘shithole’ countries in Oval Office meeting.”

This is scary. It has been an anxious day for me.

Apparently it is hard to find non Halal meat in New Zealand. But that can’t be right. We are a non-Muslim country with Christian roots! Apparently not. Oh,well, never mind. Most kiwis probably don’t know or care that our meat is halal certified.

I think you’re right that most kiwis don’t know or care that most of our meat is halal slaughtered. I’ve known for some time & I don’t know what their process is once they’ve faced Mecca and said a silly prayer but I assume it breach any regulations to prevent cruelty to animals.

Personally I don’t like it. I’ve assumed we export such large quantities to Muslim countries it’s been an economic necessity. That’s capitalism for you.

Personally Corky, I neither know nor care. The slaughterman can recite whatever silly prayer he fancies, and face whatever direction he likes whilst killing my dinner. It still tastes the same regardless.

It’s a bit bloody rough if the animal’s Anglican.

I’m actually glad you brought this up Corky. The Jews have as much to answer for as the Muslims, IMHO. But your mate Cameron won’t subject their practices to the same level of scrutiny. He knows better than to jeopardize his free holidays in Israel…

Tne following has been ‘cut & pasted’ from Wikipedia (my emphasis). If you are a vegetarian, or have only ever eaten meat from the supermarket, I suggest you stop reading now 😉

Exsanguination is used as a method of slaughter. Before the fatal incision is made, the animal may be rendered insensible to pain by various methods, including captive bolt, electricity or chemical. Without prior sedation, stunning or anesthetic, this method of slaughter is understood by some to cause a high degree of anxiety,[1] although other studies contradict these findings.[2] The captive bolt is placed against the skull of the animal, and penetrates to cause tissue destruction in the brain, incapacitating the animal so that the procedure may take place. Electricity is used mostly to incapacitate swine, poultry and domestic sheep, whereas a chemical is used for injured livestock.

Continued pumping operation of the heart during exsanguination increases the rate of depletion, and thus hastens death, by raising the fluid pressure of the blood. Because the heart operates like a positive displacement pump, reduction of blood volume will not affect efficiency of cardiac output — deprivation of blood to the heart does gradually result in diminished function, but concurrently with similar death of other parts in the body.[citation needed]

Quickly after the animal is incapacitated it is hung upside down by its hind limbs and an extremely sharp knife, in an orientation parallel to the ground, is fully inserted through the skin just behind the point of the jaw and below the neck bones. From this position, the knife is drawn forward away from the spine to sever the jugular veins, carotid arteries, and trachea. Properly performed, blood will flow freely and death will occur within seconds. Sheep and swine will reach brain death in under 10 seconds; however, larger animals, notably cattle may take up to 40 seconds to reach brain death. This period may extend to a couple of minutes if complications, such as arterial occlusion, occur. However, the animal’s inverted position allows blood to flow more precipitously and thus makes an animal regaining consciousness before it is fully exsanguinated highly unlikely. In any case, animal welfare advisory councils clearly emphasize that the time from incapacitation to start of exsanguination should be prompt; recommending a time under 15 seconds.[3]

Beyond the initial cost of purchasing a captive bolt, continued usage of the method is very inexpensive. The animal is incapacitated for the duration of the procedure, so it is one of the safest methods for the slaughterer.

Slaughter by exsanguination is mandated by Judaic kashrut (kosher) and Islamic dhabihah (halal) dietary laws. The double edged pointed knife is prohibited. Instead, a long knife with a squared off end is used that in Jewish law must be at least twice the width of the animal’s neck. The operation of sticking or exsanguination is executed faster than when using the pointed knife, as four large blood vessels in the neck are severed simultaneously.

A 1978 study at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover indicates that these traditional methods, when executed as prescribed by the religious authorities, gave results which proved “…pain and suffering to the extent as has since long been generally associated in public with this kind of slaughter cannot be registered…” and that “[a complete loss of consciousness] occurred generally within considerably less time than during the slaughter method after captive bolt stunning.”[2]

In Islamic and Jewish law, captive bolts and other methods of pre-slaughter paralysis are generally not permissible, as consumption of animals found dead are regarded as carrion and stunned animals that are later killed will come into this category.

”Personally Corky, I neither know nor care.”

Same here. But it’s the symbolism and intransigence that annoys me. I have mentioned before our local Muslim Indian restaurant has a picture of of Mecca above the entrance of
his establishment. That symbolically makes everyone who enters his establishment submit to Islam.

As to the Jews. Have they got the same rort going as Muslims? How much of our meat is Kosher? I have no problem making some exceptions for Jews provided it’s acceptable to us.
          But no exceptions for Muslims.

I don’t. Only went in once before noting the setup. I was thinking about going back wearing a crucifix, but decided against it. I wouldn’t trust what they may( repeat-may) do to my food.

Pity, because it was really tasty food. Their naan bread was to die for.

I haven’t been able to find anything with google that confirms that if you walk under a picture of Mecca going in to an establishment this means you submit to Islam, symbolically or otherwise. Where did you get this info from Corks?

Yup, I hear you mate. Perhaps you should ask if they deliver, so that you can enjoy their fine cuisine, without having to ‘submit to Mohammed (PBUH) 😉 ‘. I rather enjoy a spicy curry myself, and have learned how to correctly order it, When the Indian man behind the counter asks me how I want my Vindaloo, I tell him “Hot”. He smiles at me, & asks “Kiwi hot or Indian hot?”. I reply “Indian hot please, not ‘teach the white man a lesson hot’, OK?”.
If it is flavorsome, makes my nose run, & makes me sweat, it’s a good curry. If I have to take a pot of yoghurt to the shitter the next day, to dab my toilet paper in, it isn’t 😉 😀

No silly prayers, or facing Mecca required. Just add 1/2 a kilo of chicken/beef/whatever, a few mushrooms, a sliced capsicum or two, and simmer the lot uncovered for an hour. Start cooking some rice 15 minutes before it is done. I call it ‘Kiwi Madras’. You can call it whatever you like.

I see Mr T is about to pass laws allowing more offshore oil drilling around the USA coastline, including in the Arctic circle. The only exempted area is reportedly around Florida where he has a large resort (Moralago ?). More evidence that he is totally using his position (POTUS) purely out of SELF Interest !
So much for ‘Make America great again’ its obviously about ‘Make the Trumps wealthier/more powerful ONLY’ What a totally Smug sod !!

Look on the bright side. Oprah would probably beat him at the polls. Her slogan would be:
”Let’s make America poor again.but rich with diversity.” 😄
