More than ten years ago we installed an a little elevator in the house next door we were renovating into a guest house. At the time it was a good solution to connect two levels previously with no internal connection and being economical with space. It has proved a real boon – kids love it and it is so much easier to negotiate with supplies and laundry. It also gives more privacy to the two levels than an open staircase. The initial install was done by an electrical firm in Kerikeri who were unfortunately not competent to manage the construction side of it but we survived that and the Tauranga “Access Elevators” suppliers have always been great to deal with. Last night for only the second time in more than ten years the lift stopped working. Of course this always happens at a weekend but I rang Tauranga and – joy – got an actual engineer instead of a call centre who stepped through some tests, identified and then resolved the problem.

Good service should be recognised and enjoyed.

Was anyone in the lift when it happened ? I have known two houses with them, one was very jerky and noisy. The other was more like a ‘real’ lift,

Blimey, it’s hot again. I am afraid to look. I went outside last night-it seemed lovely and cool-24-25o.

No, a teenager was calling it. But I think the kids had been playing too much with it and a relay that has a overheat sensor to protect the pump from running dry had triggered it. It has plenty of fail-safe options to get out if someone is in it during a failure. .

It’s powered by a small water pump under the house and is quiet coming up and silent going down. Not at all jerky except for a bump at the bottom when it stops. Very reliable.

Gezza-is there any chance of the pookcam and duckcam videos being put online by themselves ???

No. They’re taken with my cellcams Kitty. Whenever I see something I want to video & have one handy. I’m trying to discourage the ducks coming up at the moment by not feeding them. They’re so big the pooks see them as a threat to the pooklet so they charge at them.

But if the birdcam videos are here, couldn’t they be elsewhere online ? They are too special for just one group to see them. These are magic. Nobody would notice that the ducks were no longer among those present.

Oh, sorry, my mistake. I see what you mean now. I thought you were asking if they were from livecam clips.

I imagine I could get a YouTube channel & post them there. I’ve got over a hundred video clips of the ducks, pooks, & eels now. I have thought about doing that, but I couldn’t be bothered going thru them all, sorting them out, & posting them to a YouTube channel in the end.

There’d only be a microscopically tiny audience interested in them – only you & me maybe.

Aww … thanks. Sounds healthy & yummy, that smoothie.

You already get emailed the good clips Possum. This new smartfone cam’s a disappointment. I can’t email you clips from that because 13 megapixel files are too big. Also I have to “stabilise” the clips after recording them. The app does a good job steadying any camera-shake but it introduces random shudders into clips longer than a minute. Also it’s got no pause & resume feature like the two 3G phones.

The tuis down here are incredibly blue right across their backs and the top of their wings at the moment. Same elsewhere?

I don’t think so-it’s such a brilliant little microcosm of pooklife especially. We have all seen them, but not in such detail.

One flew across the stream today, misjudged the distance and fell in. It tried to look as if it had meant to do this.
