I guess he was a beneficiary but not a socialist one but a capitalist beneficiary. Capitalise your profits and socialise your losses.

Just because he drives a Ferrari dosn’t make him rich. A lot of these people want to be seen to be rich but most of the “rich” is owned by the banks. The real rich more often than not don’t flaunt their wealth

Seabird…you understand true wealth. The real rich have no need for social climbing and pratish displays of wealth. Ferrari’s` are so yesterday. They are for motoring enthusiasts. Not the wealthy.

Says someone who DOSNT drive one

          • I would expect someone who is travelling in a Bentley to be alive, Blazer, as they are not used for hearses as far as I know, and people who are taken to the cemetery aren’t usually described as ‘travelling’ in the hearse.. It didn’t occur to me to state the obvious-that Queen Elizabeth is still alive. The sherry must indeed be kicking in if you think that this is worth saying.

I see Nikki Kaye wants a second language compulsorily taught at school. She says it helps with cogitative development and, besides, much of the world is bi-lingual.

I have doubts about the former. Music is way ahead with increasing a broad-range of intellectual functions. A child not drinking fluoridated water, who has music as a mainstay in his education, can expect to have an average IQ of ten points above his non musical peers.

The latter is a fair point. Much of the world is bilingual. We aren’t. One figure bandied around yesterday had only 20% of New Zealanders speaking a different language. However, that figure included immigrants.

On talk-back the consensus was ” let’s teach proper English first.” Employers interviewed said many people applying for jobs couldn’t fill out simple forms. This has been a common problem with applicants who’ve gone through kura schooling.

Great piece, Blazer. Enjoyed that. What have I taken from it? The NZ political divide isn’t great. We are a socialist country, with socialist ideals. My bet is when Labour gets the chop in three years time, the incoming National government wont dare remove the electricity subsidy. They may change the criteria etc, just to show they are National, but otherwise it will be socialism as usual.

This could be a bit of fun.

It looks like Haiti has responded to trump’s description of the country as a shithole.

They’ve holded an emergency high court session that resulted in an agreement to unseal and release information within ex-dictator Jean-Claude ‘Baby Doc’ Duvalier’s indictments relating to money laundering when Baby Doc bought a trump tower apartment directly from trump.

    http://www.rawstory.com/2018/01/haitian-government-claims-ousted-dictator-baby-doc-duvalier-laundered-stolen-money-through-trump-tower/

How appropriate – I’ve been thinking for awhile that the trump presidency will end with trump and his whole corrupt clan fleeing the country to Russia, Baby Doc style.
