Running my eyes over twitter this morning, i noticed all the posts of our PM Jacinda Ardern from NZ Herald had an unflattering photo. Its as if the herald waits for her to blink to get an unflattering photo, but then they are a rightwing rag

I know we have to expect three years of complaints about promises not kept.
I promise to not reply to all the stuff like (it was) “never happening and only simpletons thought it would” with reference to a Prime Ministerial candidate saying that under his leadership GST wouldn’t be increased.

I accept that there are many counts on which I could be judged a simpleton. Is believing what John Key said was true and genuine a reason to be deemed a simpleton?

Hardly misogyny-one doesn’t have to hate all women, which is what misogyny means, to think that one is ‘no oil painting’. Just as a criticism of one man doesn’t mean that one hates all men.

There is a group of people in NZ who insist that plants grown in NZ should not only be indigenous but were possible eco sourced. Supposedly this is to ensure genetic integrity.
The same group of people also insist we should have open boarders to people from everywhere. This supposedly is to ensure genetic diversity.
    Just a thought

So would I, but trees are trees. I haven’t heard of anyone insisting upon ‘open boarders’-that’s never going to happen.

Whilst looking into info. on the Greens Medicinal cannabis bill (C Swarbrick) I came across a website from the Christian extremist ‘Charity’: FAMILY FIRST.
    http://saynopetodope.org.nz, with a ‘report’ titled :
*‘MEDICINAL MARIJUANA’ IS BEING USED AS A SMOKESCREEN FOR ALLOWING RECREATIONAL DOPE* (their block capitals)

Here folks is the opposition to any RATIONAL moves to allow further access to the Medicinal use of CANNABIS in Aotearoa/NZ. Never have I read such a load of misinformation & fearmongering about a plant that most other OECD countries are now allowing, not only its medicinal use, but decrim. personal use too.

I lost count, of the number of times, they refer to it as ‘Medical MARIJUANA’, which many rational people agree should NOT be used in a scientific or medical context. ‘Marijuana’ is the slang name often associated with Recreational use only. Here in lies the actual purpose of this ‘blurb/rant’: to attack & cast scorn on any attempts to reform the current prohibitive laws in this country, by claiming the current bills, due before parliament are just excuses to legalise ‘POT’ (also used in the text).

They list ‘quotes’ from Doctors, that claim to cast doubt on any real evidence of Cannabis’ potential medicinal uses, that are currently being used for genuine illness/conditions in: Canada, USA. Australia. much of the EU, parts of Sth America, Israel etc.
They mention that ‘smoking any drugs is unacceptable’.. most agree that this is the least preferred method & it is widely available in the forms for oral ingestion (oils etc.) & even vaping, in necassary for fast action. They talk about the reported ‘psychological effects’ mainly on children.. again the vast majority of ‘licensed cannabis patients’ are adults.

I would recommend anyone who is interested in this issue, should read this litany of Nonsense.. it may just make you realise why Aoteroa/NZ has fallen to the ‘back of the pack’ in the OECD on Medicinal Cannabis reforms.. it is 2018, not 1975, we need more open, honest, rational debate, not this type of trashy FEAR-mongering, put forward by McCoskrie & Co. !! 😦

    • Whether it’s slang, whether its as simple as poetic alliteration we all understand the plant, its chemicals and their value regardless of nomenclature .

A rose by any other name smells as sweet.

Not at all some times your obtuseness must even baffle you. That is unless something as simple as a plant and it’s compounds equates to the huge disparities and incarnations of a broad segment of a Western political Movement.

I hear you.. BUT I have often heard that people use terms like ‘Medical M-J’ to muddy the waters & add ‘fuel to the fire’ of negative rhetoric.. as I said reading the blurb, i lost count of how many times the writer used it. He/she only used the word cannabis, when quoting others ‘negative evidence’.. 😦

I too support all uses (inc. Regulated R18 personal use etc.) BUT the tone of the post i quoted, would have us believe its all about recreational use & medicinal use IS just an excuse, which I vehemently disagree with.
Aotearoa/NZ is looking decidedly ‘Backward’ on this issue (echoes of reefer madness) & these folks have a big influence on others who are perhaps less informed or ignorant of the realities: Canada, USA, EU, Aust. are now years ahead of us.. where once NZ was considered a ‘world leader on many issues’ 😦

The cannabis/marijuana thing is nitpicking and, I believe, inaccurate.

I like the ‘smokescreen’ comment. I used to have a copy of the PPTA journal that had a headline ‘Teachers to issue joint statement on drug use’ It wasn’t meant to be funny..

Has anyone seen Christine Rankin’s latest attempt to give herself another 15 minutes of fame ? I wonder what she takes people for. The private jet affair was a misunderstanding by a junior staff member. As the ‘junior staff member’ was acting upon Ms Rankin’s orders and given a very large settlement for unfair dismissal, this sounds unlikely. She also had a police squad protecting her to save her life…I’m sure 😀
