How the west is losing to China and Russia. They continue to stockpile gold. We continue to print money and create debt.

Theresa May is yet again facing a leadership crisis. Today a report suggested she has been given 3 months to shape up or ship out (paraphrased by myself). A source in the Conservative party has said that the Chairman of the 1922 Committee has 40 letters from MPs expressing no confidence in Theresa May as leader, they need 48 to trigger a leadership election.

A number of MPs have called for her to sack Philip Hammond as Chancellor, or face a leadership challenge. This comes after Hammond’s speech at Davos where he seemed to say that the UK would end up remaining in the EU in all but name, essentially that they would not leave the Single Market or Customs Union, would continue paying, and would remain under the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice. This is the biggest fear of most leavers, that the Government will head for a form of Brexit that will not altar much at all.

Last week was the Brexit Committee meeting and David Davis had rings run around him by Jacob Rees Mogg who has been very vocal against the direction of the government on Brexit. JRM is one of the favourites for the Conservative Party leadership along with Boris Johnson.

On a potential leadership challenge, earlier this week the Defence Secretary, Gavin Williamson, admitted to an affair a few years ago with a younger (married) colleague, this is seen as him ‘clearing the decks’ of potential scandal ahead of a leadership challenge.

    Interesting times ahead.

Poland has made it illegal to refer to Polish Death Camps in relation to the Nazi Death Camps in Poland, they are only to be referred to as Nazi Death Camps. The Government of Poland says that referring to them as Polish Death Camps implies that the Polish Government and Polish people were complicit in the camps.

    • Making it illegal seems to be taking it too far, but it’s a fair point insisting they were inflicted on Poland by the Nazis.

If true, it comes as no surprise for me. Like Maori, they believe the economic pie is only so big and they don’t want to share their piece with interlopers – legal or otherwise.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised the volcano’s alert level to 4 out of 5 possible tiers after an eruption of Mt Mayon on Monday, January 22 spewed a huge column of ash five kilometres high.

Albay province, Philippines – Mt Mayon – famous for its majestic, near-perfect cone shape – is among the most active volcanoes in the Philippines, having erupted at least 50 times in the last 500 years.
