It went down to 19o last night. How lovely not to have fans on full to make sleep possible. No doubt the heat will be back, but the little respite is welcome.

I slept through last night. First time in weeks. And with a light quilt on the bed! I think we dropped to 17 degrees. I enjoy the nice sunny days, but sleep better when it’s cooler. Annoyingly my super-intelligent fan is too noisy for the bedroom.

I no longer mind fan noise-I have a pedestal fan in the corner of the bedroom which is usually enough, but this summer a ‘desk fan’ has joined it on a bookcase by the bed. I ordered two of these online from the Warehouse, but one arrived minus its blade cap. They sent me another fan, which was nice, and when I was dismantling an old and feeble one, I found that its blade cap fitted the new fan which didn’t have one. I have been very glad to have this extra one.

There are three in the sittingroom-one is very small-three in the kitchen-again, one is very small. Two in the bedroom and two middle-sized by the computer table-one in the bathroom and one in the spare room/sewing room. There’s even one in the laundry, as that’s the dog’s room when I go out.

I have been driven back inside; it’s hot again outside, but the coolness was nice while it lasted. The extension to the path will have to wait.

Earplugs might help with the noise.

(slips quietly into Possum’s garden and pokes holes in the Para pool, then stands behind a tree to see what happens when Possum notices)

I heard that fans were currently in short supply. Now I know why – you have cornered the market. Did you know that many fans are portable and can be moved from room to room according to need? Anyway I have decided it’s time to seriously consider a heat pump for the lounge/dining/kitchen areas after suffering 30 degree temperatures. Problem is if I do, I might have to wait another 10 years for the next heat wave.

Yes, but who can be bothered to do so, especially if the plug is in an awkward place like behind the sofa or a chair as some of mine are ? They are cheap enough to have them in each room-pedestal fans are a nuisance to move. I replaced my two pedestals because one was ancient and the fan part drooped so it was cooling the floor. The other was all right but looking a bit shabby, so I cleaned it up and donated it. I only bought 5 this summer, the others have been around for ages. 6 new ones if you count the replacement because of a missing part.

The pedestals were $15 each, the desk ones $19, so it wasn’t a huge investment if there isn’t a heatwave for a few years, Less than $100. Money well spent.

I took two 20cm ones out of retirement in the shed-even they give a pleasant little boost of coolness. One is on the bench and the other on the coffee table, so that there is a fan blowing both ways. I can’t see the 10cm ones being very effective, and if they only have a USB plug, that must lessen their appeal.

I haven’t heard this for years! Bought the Fleetwood Mac album in 70’s. Albatross singer and lead guitar was Peter Green I believe. The group certainly changed after he left.

Yes they were a blues band – I think Mick Fleetwood’s the only original member of the crew who made it big with Rumours.

You’re forgetting John McVie. Original band member (and where the “Mac” in th name came from). Now i’m a big fan of Lindsey Buckingham.

Impressive flight, he didn’t fall in. Not that any I have seen actually fall in, of course, they MEAN to land in the water.
