“Jacinda Ardern says New Zealand shouldn’t seek perfection on Waitangi Day, and she will not be bothered by any protests.

Ardern will be the first prime minister to spend Waitangi Day at Waitangi since 2015, and she’s the first female prime minister to speak from the porch, or mahau, of Te Whare Rūnanga – the upper marae – at the Treaty Grounds.

For 364 days of the year we’re quite proud we speak openly, we’re frank with one another, we embrace our freedom and contest of ideas.

“Then on one day of the year, if any of that happens, we think that we’ve somehow failed.”

Waitangi was a national celebration, “so we should celebrate those things we value, and that contest of ideas”, Ardern said.
    … … … …
When asked whether she kept an eye out for things flying towards her face – in reference to an incident in 2016 when National MP Steven Joyce was hit in the face with a dildo – Ardern said she was usually surrounded by her MPs, and anything would hit them before it hit her.”

    All good points. 😎

If the PM was male would the media call having 5 days at Waitangi a “charm offensive” … Seriously the NZ media is so limited in their framing. What is happening at Waitangi is about respect it has nothing to do with charm. Our people know respectful engagement when we see it!

Jacinda spending five days in Waitangi and Bill spending the day in Bluff really does say something. God knows what it says exactly, but it certainly says it loudly.

Looks like the Taxpayers Union and their #whitepower network are planning an attack on Maori seabed and foreshore claimants (MACA).
