This could be momentous in the Muslim world – for change or for reaction to liberalisation:

trump’s nasty ways with women seem to be coming back to haunt him…

Waiting in the wings behind Ms Daniels et al is Anastasia Vashukevich – if I were trump I’d be far more frightened of what she might reveal.

The happy days of Kennedy, Clinton and Mitterand womanising are here again. Apparently your lady friend was only 16 when Trump was in Moscow. I doubt the KGB would employ school girls to do their dirty work but no doubt you know better.

Alan, hand on heart, I truly don’t know whether the KGB would employ school girls to do their dirty work…

Nor do I know whether trump would employ school girls to do his dirty work…

But ya know? I wouldn’t be surprised. He seems to have plenty of form.

Oh, Sara Carter… dedicated messenger for the White House, who numbers Hannity, Gorka, and Cernovich among her bigly fans.

There’s a big weakness in your comment (and your tendentious link) Alan. And that weakness is the same as with all the other attacks on the Steele document – they pretend that the content doesn’t exist.

Instead, trump sycophants like Carter dwell on how the research was funded, and make no effort to refute the specific allegations. They look at it through a partisan lens and discount the substance.

Fortunately their conspiracy theory that federal law enforcement conducted surveillance on an American citizen for political reasons based on the Steele Dossier has been well and truly debunked. And aside from labeling it “garbage” and “fake,” trump’s sycophants have been unable or unwilling to disprove any significant fact in the dossier.

Even the Stormy Daniels saga which you commented on above is freakily similar to Steele’s reporting. Just like in the dossier, Trump’s bad behaviour with women put him in a vulnerable and compromising position.

So you can rest easy Alan … maybe put your wee head down for a wee nana nap…

I always rest easy, Joe. It was your blood pressure we were concerned about. Glad your Lefty personal attacks on any critic work for you.

          Joe made several salient points:

          * Trump defenders focus on the funding of the Steele dossier and have been unable or unwilling to disprove any significant fact contained within it.

          * Their argument that the Steele dossier was an “essential piece of evidence” in the FISA warrant is inaccurate. The Steele dossier formed one of many pieces of evidence, FISA were informed of its origin & funding. Regardless of its origin & funding, the allegations within it were considered credible enough for the court to grant a warrant. Page was the subject of a FISA warrant as early as 2014.

          * The Stormy Daniels saga continues the litany of shady interactions between Trump & women. This is relevant when considering the credibility of the more salacious elements of the Steele dossier, and also for criticising hypocrisy among the self-righteous right.

Huh? Since when do allegations without evidence become facts?

I think we are still in the dark regarding the supposed supporting evidence for the FISA applications. Some of it was certainly circular and self-referencing. The claimed exposure of its origin was heavily fudged.

The litany of shady interactions between US Presidents and women is long and apolitical. Some of the Steele allegations are more absurd than salacious.

“Huh? Since when do allegations without evidence become facts?”

Fair enough, I should have used the word allegation rather than fact.

Trump defenders focus on the funding of the Steele dossier and have been unable or unwilling to disprove any significant allegation contained within it.

“I think we are still in the dark regarding the supposed supporting evidence for the FISA applications. Some of it was certainly circular and self-referencing. The claimed exposure of its origin was heavily fudged”

We do know bits and pieces, because the Republicans continued to politicize institutions that should be bipartisan, by unilaterally releasing classified information from the USHIC for the purposes of a political attack. The main “fudge” was the Nunes memo, in that it presented highly selected and inaccurate information in order to push a misleading narrative.

I reiterate, the argument that the Steele dossier was an “essential piece of evidence” in the FISA warrant is inaccurate.

“The litany of shady interactions between US Presidents and women is long and apolitical.”

So? Does that somehow give Trump a free pass on having paid hush money to a porn star?

“Some of the Steele allegations are more absurd than salacious.”

I agree, there’s some pretty outrageous stuff in there.

here’s something else to raise your blood pressure Alan…

          https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/mueller-gathers-evidence-that-2016-seychelles-meeting-was-effort-to-establish-back-channel-to-kremlin/2018/03/07/b6a5fb8c-224b-11e8-94da-ebf9d112159c_story.html

and a wee summary so’s you don’t have to burn your eyes on “fake news” websites…

George Nader told Mueller’s team the January 2017 meeting he attended on the Indian ocean island between a Russian official and Erik Prince, the founder of weapons manufacturer Blackwater, was meant to establish unofficial communications between the two countries.

When Prince testified before the House Intelligence Committee, he characterised the meeting as a chance encounter.

Nader attended a December 2016 meeting between senior trump officials and bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, and made frequent visits to the White House in the early months of the Trump administration to meet with senior advisers Jared Kushner and Steve Bannon to discuss Persian Gulf diplomacy.

Last May, the WaPo reported that Kushner also sought a Russian backchannel during the Trump transition – a move he likely didn’t make on his own.

          —————–

Just as a footnote (or two):

Erik Prince is Betsy DeVos’s brother, let that connection sink in a bit before you ever think nepotism isn’t a problem.

And Devos’s husband is the owner of Spectrum Group, which was getting pinged by the same trump server as Alfa bank was hitting. So a Russian bank hit a trump computer that then hit a DeVos company computer…and now it seems DeVos’s brother was back-channeling with the Russians via UAE…

Alan, I’ll leave you to connect the dots after your little nana nap…

Why would it raise my blood pressure? Why wouldn’t a President who wants to do something sensible in foreign relations not want to communicate with major players? So far Trump seems to be doing infinitely better with world conflicts than Obama.

Blackwater is not a weapons manufacturer.

My error – Prince’s Blackwater was the private military company, not the Blackwater Gun Company. Apologies.

Still if that’s the only hole you can pick on in response to my comment, it’s not all bad eh 🙂

      To hell with the evangelicals.

In the era of #MeToo it’s a reminder to trump that what worked for powerful men in the past — ensuring women’s silence with money and intimidation — ain’t going to work as well now that his tactics are out in the open.

Daniels isn’t suing for money. Instead, she’s suing for declaratory relief, which allows her to speak freely about the relationship she says she had with Trump, without fear of litigation.

Fair’s fair after all. He’s called her a liar repeatedly, and if he can spend a year lying shamelessly and can make billions by fucking people over, why shouldn’t Daniels get to tell her side of the story and clear her name.
