Democracy comes to Pennsylvania as Supreme Court tells Republicans they can’t have their gerrymander.

  4. I was always dubious about the safety of self-driving cars. They may work ok amongst a bunch of other self-driving cars, but it will be very hard to design them to deal with unpredictable human behaviour and actions.

but it will be very hard to design them to deal with unpredictable human behaviour and actions.

      Think about that carefully PG.
Self drive is already proven to be safer than humans.
The fact that they can not avoid the worse of human stupidity is not a reason to stop there use. Humans cant avoid human stupidity either.

I think it will be harder to design them to deal with unpredictable robot behaviour. Humans have been tailored by millions of years of evolution. Robots haven’t.

           /  March 21, 2018

Humans were tailored to drive cars at 100 kph by evolution .
Care to share some of that shite you smoke?

Oh F.O. Griff. Can’t be bothered with your nonsense. And we know what you smoke.

One thing I will be watching – with a view to saying “I told you so” – is the ‘development’ and eventual failure of self-drive vehicles …

I predict they’ll only work if they run on tracks … a bit like railways …

Why do we want to create computers to do our thinking for us?

I disagree, PZ. Only a matter of time before they take over. And of course there will be accidents along the way.

              Dear dear Alan
              Bit tetchy today are we?
              Here is a little hint
Reply to my comment and you might get one back
              That’s life.

If your reply is somewhat stupid is in humans are evolved to cope with the modern traffic I might just come back in kind.

The problem with Conservatives is they fear change of any sort
It is an irrational ideology for this reason. As stoned peploe are also known to act irrationally it is natural to confuse the two mind states .
In future I will try to remember you are irrational not because of outside influence such as drugs but because you are laboring under the disability of being a Conservative .
One should not make fun of those with disabilities as it is not their fault and outside of their control.

              XXX Griff….

Trump’s lawyers (with the possible exception of Don McGahn, who’ll stay so long as he can pack the courts with unqualified ideologues) want out, and none of the real lawyers he’s approaching want to have anything to do with him.

When Rick Gates ran his defense team like this, he had a way out: to flip on Paul Manafort and Trump himself. But who will Trump flip on? Vladimir Putin?

This is the most remarkable thing to behold. The most powerful man in the world is having difficulties getting anyone but a washed out table-pounder to represent him in the most high profile investigation in recent years.

    https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/03/20/if-the-law-and-the-facts-are-against-you-pound-the-table-and-yell-like-hell/

    Questions?
    – Why does trump need lawyers when he’s done nothing wrong?

    – Why fire Mueller if trump’s done nothing wrong? If that’s the case then Mueller’s the only one who can exonerate him.

Breaking news: Trump Loses Bid To Dismiss Accuser’s Defamation Lawsuit

(Reuters) – A defamation lawsuit filed against U.S. President Donald Trump by a contestant on his former reality show “The Apprentice” who accused him of sexual harassment can proceed, a New York state judge ruled on Tuesday, raising the possibility of Trump being forced to answer questions about his behavior toward women.

Justice Jennifer Schecter in the Manhattan Supreme Court said there was “absolutely no authority” to dismiss or stay a civil lawsuit by Summer Zervos related “purely to unofficial conduct” because Trump was U.S. president.

The ruling could force Trump to submit to questioning by lawyers for Zervos and lead to further public scrutiny of other claims of sexual misconduct that have been made against the president.

At last one of the Fox News strategic analysts grows a spine and denounces trump’s propaganda machine in an epic rant:

On March 1st, I informed Fox that I would not renew my contract. The purpose of this message to all of you is twofold:

First, I must thank each of you for the cooperation and support you’ve shown me over the years. Those working off-camera, the bookers and producers, don’t often get the recognition you deserve, but I want you to know that I have always appreciated the challenges you face and the skill with which you master them.

Second, I feel compelled to explain why I have to leave. Four decades ago, I took an oath as a newly commissioned officer. I swore to “support and defend the Constitution,” and that oath did not expire when I took off my uniform. Today, I feel that Fox News is assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers. Over my decade with Fox, I long was proud of the association. Now I am ashamed.

In my view, Fox has degenerated from providing a legitimate and much-needed outlet for conservative voices to a mere propaganda machine for a destructive and ethically ruinous administration. When prime-time hosts–who have never served our country in any capacity–dismiss facts and empirical reality to launch profoundly dishonest assaults on the FBI, the Justice Department, the courts, the intelligence community (in which I served) and, not least, a model public servant and genuine war hero such as Robert Mueller–all the while scaremongering with lurid warnings of “deep-state” machinations– I cannot be part of the same organization, even at a remove. To me, Fox News is now wittingly harming our system of government for profit.

As a Russia analyst for many years, it also has appalled me that hosts who made their reputations as super-patriots and who, justifiably, savaged President Obama for his duplicitous folly with Putin, now advance Putin’s agenda by making light of Russian penetration of our elections and the Trump campaign. Despite increasingly pathetic denials, it turns out that the “nothing-burger” has been covered with Russian dressing all along. And by the way: As an intelligence professional, I can tell you that the Steele dossier rings true–that’s how the Russians do things.. The result is that we have an American president who is terrified of his counterpart in Moscow.

I do not apply the above criticisms in full to Fox Business, where numerous hosts retain a respect for facts and maintain a measure of integrity (nor is every host at Fox News a propaganda mouthpiece–some have shown courage). I have enjoyed and valued my relationship with Fox Business, and I will miss a number of hosts and staff members. You’re the grown-ups.

Also, I deeply respect the hard-news reporters at Fox, who continue to do their best as talented professionals in a poisoned environment. These are some of the best men and women in the business..

So, to all of you: Thanks, and, as our president’s favorite world leader would say, “Das vidanya.

Heh, somewhat intemperate hardly scratches the surface of his past indiscretions:

Ralph Peters was a national security analyst for Fox for over 10 years, and in that time he was a heavy duty foreign policy hawk who frequently criticized the Obama administration: I think he once described Obama as having been ‘date raped’ by Vladimir Putin, a description that might well apply to the present president as well.

Peters was also once suspended from Fox for a week in 2015 after he called Obama a ‘total pussy’

Sounds a bit like he went to the same charm school as you, Al. Fortunately he’s all growed up now and has seen the light…

Bill Gates in HUGE borders U-turn: ‘Brussels must make it HARDER for migrants to reach EU’
He said: “On the one hand you want to demonstrate generosity and take in refugees, but the more generous you are, the more word gets around about this – which in turn motivates more people to leave Africa.
