Nobody likes 3 pukekos on their roof for long.

And when you ask “who taught this kid to fly up there, & why is he refusing to come to down?”, nobody would believe these two when they pretend they know nothing about it & don’t even know whose kid it is! 😡

I have seen them on high places, but never on a roof. Can they climb up something ?

Well, they can actually fly directly up there from down in the stream if they want to, but generally they fly up onto the 6 foot North fence, then fly about 3 feet over onto my patio clearlite roof & stomp around on that, & then hop a few inches onto the lower roof.

Now he knows his wings work properly Pickles has been experimenting with flying up onto all sorts of places since yesterday.

But now he can get into my yard too Aspen’s getting ratty with him & chasing him off every now & then, with increasing frequency. Bites his feathers. Much squeaking from the lad.

I think there’s definitely some new pooklets or one of them’s on a new nest. Bluey & Sweetie disappear downstream with food, taking it somwhere. If I chuck down some bread chunks they don’t even eat it here, they’re straight up onto the fence & then off down the parenga somewhere.

Aspen is puzzling. He’s alternately getting ratty with Pickles, & then feeding him, like his intinct is telling him he’s supposed to be feeding a bubba but he’s confused & feeding the wrong one.

The best pilot of them all is Sweetie. The boys are all look-at-me noise with pre- in- & post-flight boasting, but a bit rip shit n bust on the actual take-offs, flights, & landings. Sweetie just takes off, flies & lands, with no fanfare – and she’s precision flyer. She can fly from roof or shed roof & land precisely on the trellis or a fencetop, or whatever landing point she aims for. Quite an in-flight acrobat too.
