Surprise, surprise Mrs Hosking speaking at a hundred miles an hour bad mouthed Labour’s housing plan(ghettos) you know, never saw that…coming.

On comes Mr Hosking with his relentless negativity, you would think he was a paid mouthpiece for National,it’s a pity that NZME newstalkZB has so much bias for the right…

That is a colossal amount of housing in a small area, the maths is quite staggering for what is still mainly a leafy suburb but good on Twyford picking up Nationals plans with Unitec.
I am hugely disappointed that Twyford wont disclose the price paid given that every property transaction in NZ is publicly available information, it cant possibly be commercially sensitive. Bit to quick to be secretive this lot.

Remind us how much effort the late defeated National party did to fix the housing problem after flooding NZ with immagrants, and I don’t think $24000000 for a flag referrendan counts

I said this project was a good thing but mentioned density. And I dont think National did nearly enough on housing in Auckland and they let in way too many Indians to attend dodgy colleges but seeing as Labour campaigned on sorting out these long neglected issues lets see if they get round to fixing any of them.

Ms Ardern may think that $1,000,000 is affordable, but most people wouldn’t.

Hosking does make pertinent points that are best not to ignore. The new blocks built by HNZ in Christchurch have turned into a bit of a nightmare.

Dont be so defeatist Lurcher they will get up to speed at some point just give them a bit more time.
I have hope that Twyford who makes such a song and dance will come through with the goods and not yet more re branding of Nationals projects.

Some person posting elsewhere stated that our PM Jacinda Adern should pull her head in as to mentioning POTUS#45 trumps orange shade(which he has)as we want our steel and aluminum exempt in one of his upcoming trade wars,i would say us pulling our troops out of the wars the USA are waging would be damaging for his administration, SMALL is BIG

In an unscientific poll posted to the Rodney Times Neighbourly page, 69.1 per cent of voters said learning te reo Maori in schools should be optional, not compulsory.
      ….
The Asia New Zealand Foundation survey, released today (PDF, 5.1MB), found eight out of 10 people thought New Zealand students should learn a language other than English, and more than half of those chose Chinese – ahead of te reo Māori.

Fifty-three percent of those who backed another language said Chinese should be taught. Forty-one percent picked te reo Māori, and about 20 percent selected French, Japanese and Spanish.

Whether you wish to blame racism or capitalism is irrelevant…the fact remains the world is overpopulated….wishing and blaming will not make it otherwise.

except if we want to talk about population we have to get passed the inbuilt racism. There is no doubt that white people from wealthy countries see poor brown people as the issue instead of looking at their own consumption of resources and how much pollution they create. That’s racism (and classism often too). The population discussion won’t go anywhere while that remains unaddressed.

If you treat racism as identity politics, maybe. But if you see it as coming from the same core place that drives climate change, then it makes sense to address both.

Another way to look at it that people of colour are disproportionately affected by climate change, so listening to what they have to say about solutions is useful.

The post clearly points to the problem that some people have when they focus on population as an issue of brown people having babies rather than the overdeveloped world using far more than its fair share. Myself, I think there is a connection between that and CC. You can say people aren’t stupid or shouldn’t be, but what is being described here is a well observed dynamic.

We need lots of approaches. Arguing that we don’t have time to address racism entrenches western cultural views that are driving climate change. It’s not like we can rely on the west to actually step up and prevent the worst of climate change at this point.
      …………..
What would be the effect on the west if they transfered foods to the poor countries. Presumably farmers would get lower prices and there would be the cost of meals on wheels [ships]?

DAMASCUS (Reuters) – Ibrahim Issa, a jovial Syrian taxi-driver who wears a blue robe over an ample belly, has nine children from two wives. He plans to marry a third wife soon.
He says it is up to Allah whether more children arrive, and not for him to interfere, say, by using contraception. Like all Damascus taxi-drivers, he complains about the cost of living and how hard it is to make ends meet on the $300 a month he earns.

Issa, 43, shrugs when asked if all those mouths to feed don’t make life harder for him. “No, I’m delighted,” he grins.

Syria now has a population of 20 million people, with a growth rate that remains one of the world’s highest at about 2.4 percent. But it has declined since averaging 3.2 percent from 1947-94, according to the Syrian Commission for Family Affairs.

Will there be no end to the continual codswallop bleating on about injustice from 137 years ago which is of course code for give us more money to enrich the Maori IWI elite of which hardly any trickles down to the decaying urban Maori population who are in dire straights. No one bleats on about the genocide of the Moriori, their enslavement, slaughter, and being regarded as a source of food for there is no money to be had from that.
Any reputable historian and that excludes the likes of Salmond and Belich paid by the government, will tell you that treaties are mere stop gap measures. As was shown by the Musket wars 1805-1840 Maori philosophy was no different to that of European colonisers world wide. Might is right when you have the power to enforce it.
The mind boggles at the thought of the rest of the world going back to the last say 200 years to rectify and compensate for failed treaties. What an absurdity yet this weird little country carries on with such nonsense.
