A pleasant January morning in Gezza’s stream, and this is a typical flotilla of ducks, drakes and hens, which have paddled slowly upstream en masse, and suddenly several burst into frenetic diving, flapping, & splashing about – which they do sometimes for no apparent reason.

I see them doing this here on the lake and pond…sedately swimming then going whoopee. I love to see them coming down and water-skiing .Ducklings bring out the soppiness in almost everyone !

How sweeeeet…what there WAS of it. (hint) (subtle hint)

I went into the local opshop today and found one of those white wire wossnames that people used to put the milk bottles out in.$3. I have two old milk bottles and a cream botttle that will now live in this.

I’m figuring out how to stitch some together and make a longer mini-movie. Might take a while though. I have to convert a lot of clips online from one format into another before the movie maker app can use them, and it’ll be trial and error for a wee while.

Also it will increase the size of the file considerably, and these are free online video hosting accounts, so they have weekly & total size limits. Beyond those I’ll have to pay for official or premium membership.

Re the milk bottle carrier – finally got rid of mine two years back as it wasn’t getting any use.

I wanted one for my old milk bottles, but the few I saw in curio/antique shops cost more than I wanted to pay for one.

Have you shown the videos to any organisation (mind blank as to who this might be) ? They are real treasures, I would think that there would be few, if any, such intimate views of these birds.

No. It’s all a bit amateur & low res. If i can find a way to tart them up & make a little doc out of some, I will. There’s been a chaning cast of characters. I think I started videoing these little cuties 3 years ago, but the pooks weren’t quite as semi-tame as they are now.

As well as wheat grains, I now hand out little soaked bread pieces. The 3 adults, I notice, immediately take it to baby Jojo, & now even Pickles will – if I give him a second piece after he’s eaten the first.

They use their feet like hands to hold the bread & break it into bite, or baby-sized chunks.

I like them amateur and low res. That’s part of their charm and no professional documentary with expensive equipment could out do that aspect. The idea of an ordinary (sorry, you know what I mean) making this record is marvellous and I believe that it is something that a wider audience should see,

I’ve got 682 video files and some stragglers saved to wrong places. Must have 100 or more still to go to watch, title with what’s happening and the date, and put in relevant numbered folders.

Job made more difficult by a weird computer glitch that in the last couple of days changed the created and modified dates (for only SOME) to years in the future, like 2026 & 2017. Google has shown it’s a rare problem & no one’s found out why it happened or the solution – so I have to try and date the events off other clues in the videos or where they’re located in Explorer.

I, of course, think that my dog is a member of Cansa (canine mensa) but had to wonder today. The little sod has been digging and made himself so grubby that he was bathed yesterday. He emerged snowy white and smelling of Silk Baby Shampoo 2 in 1 ($2 a bottle, makes the fur and skin feel lovely and doesn’t sting the dog’s eyes) Today the idiot not only dug again, he did it when I was outside and saw where he went. Some mothers do ‘ave ;em. Some dogs do ‘ave ’em (two baths in three days)

He’ll need a good moisturiser if he keeps this up.

The baby shampoo has a conditioner built in, so it won’t dry the skin. It would serve the bugger right if I used soap powder.

I will never forget the sight of a cat breeder who was on the news when they must have been really hard up for stories She was washing a really disgusted-looking cat with fabric softener (!!!) and saying ‘They’re not cats, they’re little babies.’ Poor little buggers.

Why does New Shub need to give us lonnnggggg human not much interest stories ? Little Johnny down a sewer, yawn, we saw him, a lot of film of the sewer (which looked like any other sewer) and pointless details about this and so on and on and on…..
