This post is open to anyone to comment on any topic that isn’t spam, illegal or offensive. All Your NZ posts are open but this one is for you to raise topics that interest you.

If providing opinions on or summaries of other information also provide a link to that information. Bloggers are welcome to summarise and link to their posts.

Comments worth more exposure may be repeated as posts.Comments from other forums can be repeated here, cut and paste is fine.

Your NZ is a mostly political and social issues blog but not limited to that, and views from anywhere on the political spectrum are welcome. Some ground rules:

  • If possible support arguments, news, points or opinions with links to sources and facts.
  • Please don’t post anything illegal, potentially defamatory or abusive.

FIRST TIME COMMENTERS: Due to abuse by a few first comments under any ID will park in moderation until released (as soon as possible but it can sometimes take a while).

Sometimes comments will go into moderation or spam automatically due to mistyped ID, too many links (>4), or trigger text or other at risk criteria.

Free speech is an important principle here but some people who might pose a risk to the site will have to keep going through moderation due to abuses by a small number of malicious people.

  1. Today is the day Radio NZ executives go to Parliament. What will they say? What will the phone message be? Is Ms Curran’s house of cards about to collapse? Will the Prime Minister have to put up another defence, or just cut her loose? [Deleted, don’t do trolling digs. PG] The big questions.

On the one hand I hope Curran said something stupid and is fired but on the other I hope she holds on and stuffs something else up…the gift that keeps on giving.
Labours talent pool is so shallow and they have a terrible cabinet gender imbalance so she will probably survive.

Sure it is Blazer I was planning on spending the day huddled around the wireless awaiting updates.
I find the story quite boring now, Curan had a secret meeting and wanted to have Carol as the new boss of RNZ who would then implement her public service TV channel which would basically be RNZ with pictures for all the luvvies to appear on and be a good little propaganda tool for the labour party.
The Minister for open government in what is self billed as the most open and transparent government is an endless source of mild amusement who I just cant get excited, annoyed, exasperated about…they are too useless to care about.

Most of that I’d agree with, but from what Curran has consistently said, the plan is to get more of a Public Broadcasting Service going for all Kiwis and residents and to have more local NZ content, including more representation from, and content from, other ethnic groups than simply Maori and European Pakeha.

Apart from the fact I’m looking around to try and deduce what we’d be paying extra as another tax in the guise of something else for this service, I quite like the intent behind it.

We have NZ on Air to fund these things, we have the Maori channel that has plenty of space filled with non Maori things. TVNZ could carry some of this stuff but the problem is 30 something advertising people think anything interesting appeals only to people over 47 and that they are not an attractive market.
Having said that NZ is one of the dullest countries on earth…thankfully so there is not a lot of interest happening.

  3. To be open about what has happened regarding Corky – I asked for an appropriate response, his response was quite unsatisfactory to me, so unless anything changes he is still free to comment but must wait for me to release any comments from moderation.

Please don’t use this as an excuse for taking free shots at him, that would be unfair so will be dealt with.

He isn’t the only one guilty of personal digs and provocations. If people can’t control petty spats then I’ll control it for them.

So where did Corky go wrong,ie which post so i can avoid committing that sin?

      • lurcher1948

         /  April 5, 2018

I see i was mentioned yesterday in the post that’s put Corky under moderation, i would like it to be put on record that Corky speaks for himself, and i dont get upset if people are critical of my posts,”LIFE IS SHORT,POST”

      • It was an accumulation of sins with a major overstepping of the line a couple of days ago. All you need to know is that needling and provoking people, and personal attacks, are out of order here. There has also been an increase in accusations of trolling – that’s a form of attack so should not be used.

Stick to discussing issues and topics reasonably without getting personal. It can be subjective, but I obviously have to draw lines because some aren’t able or willing to control their behaviour.

Well 1 is always from ME.

A troll doesn’t upset me … too much.
Trolls just like to cause derision mostly because they have
a lemon view on life. You can ignore or down-tick.

But the person who hacked into my computer did.
Really!!! Did they have to put a photo up of me on my family blog site.
you know the one with 2 eyes looking in different directions
my hair askew and looking rather ruff round the edges.
              What was I thinking!!!
It was 4.30 in the morning!!

I mean Really!!! they could have stolen the one where
I had just had a Bush Pig make over …
brushed my hair and aligned my eyes.

It would be a sad day if you left Miss
I enjoy all your korero and love to hear about a life in the Wai.
I have never thought your words were anything else but true.

Any way a MIA Aunti will never do.

Godmothers as well as Aunties, They need us to keep them on the straight and narrow.

Insult to lemons to call trolls lemons !
On a serious note, the trolling was getting beyond a joke and reaching the point of personal attacks and what was unpleasantly like stalking, The last straw was remarks about my late husband.Let’s hope that he stays away or learns his lesson.

No, the kid must take after, er, after someone else if he screeches all the time. A grandfather perhaps ?

It would depend on whether the burglar attacked him. The article was really padded with guff about the price of the houses and how long people had been retired and other irrelevancies.

“The software has looked at historical information on about 11,000 illegal immigrants, including their country of origin, age and gender, and whether they have been involved with the police, been illegally employed or used health services to which they were not entitled.”

No need to look at ethnicity.

Billy was at school this morning and the teacher asked all the children what their fathers did for a living.
All the typical answers came out, fireman, policeman, salesman, chippy, captain of industry etc, but Billy was being uncharacteristically quiet.
And so the teacher asked him about his father.
“My father is an exotic dancer in a gay club and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes if the offer is really good, he’ll go out with a man, rent a cheap hotel room and let them sleep with him.”
The teacher quickly set the other children some work and took little Billy aside to ask him if that was really true.
“No” said Billy, “Actually he plays cricket for Australia but I was just too embarrassed to say.
Brought a smile to my face

Don’t know if this will let you past the paywall. In case it doesn’t it is a case where the writer supported a friend’s accusations against a young man only to find out later that it was quite probable they were false. There have also been a string of unjustified prosecutions in the UK which have collapsed and the crusading head prosecutor (female) has been removed.

I might read it later Sir Alan. I’m aware of this sort of situation happening, though. And it’ll happen many times all around the world, I imagine.

It’s been a perfect day here with only the merest hint of a breeze. I’m powering through various small projects awaiting such a day. They have been stacking up & conspiring with ma against me. Just poked my nose in for a quick look & to see if an absent friend has posted yet.

All this seems like a great argument for not naming the accused until they have been found guilty.

Alan, did you know that ‘scot free’ is an old expression (Anglo-Saxon) meaning tax free, a scot being a form of tax ? Even in those days…..
