If a doctor and many of the staff who worked there didn’t know about the mould at Middlemore, then its fairly certain the Minister didn’t.
“One of the latest emerging problems is the news that the buildings at Middlemore Hospital have become rotten and infested with a toxic black mould. I found out in the middle of a late-night ward round from a Radio NZ journalist who phoned seeking comment – I had none, because it was news to me. The next morning, the rest of our staff and all of New Zealand heard the story and over the next few days there followed a confusion of detail about the extent of the problems and who knew what when.”

    • It is curious timing for this to come out now.

There is a lot of curiously timed news that may affect budget decisions.

doesn’t sound like the doctors job to me.Plenty for them to do without worrying about things like that. They probably don’t know whether the hospital shop makes money…either.

It may well be relevant to them if toxic spores could potentially get in to wards of vulnerable patients like geriatrics or to operating theatres.

It would be anyone’s job to report this if they saw it. It doesn’t matter who they are, they are morally obliged to say something.

I would like to know where these moulds are, though, in case it’s a gross exaggeration and scaremongering on someone’s part.

I have just seen the video of what is supposedly an intact body in the Pike River Mine. It didn’t look like one to me, it could have been anything. Has anyone else seen it ? I played it 3 times and still couldn’t see a man lying on his back, still less his boot sole pattern.

“The footage will be part of a documentary on union leader and social activist Helen Kelly who died of cancer in 2016.”

Not apparent to be either but hey the director got his publicity.

Did it look like ANYTHING recognisable ?

If it did to you…what was it ?

Newshub’s footage is clearer, and I saw wooden planks, but nothing that I would have said looked like a body. It won’t be one now, anyway,

If there was clear footage of a body, why has it not been seen before ?

I believe sincerely that I would want the ‘body’ of anyone belonging to me left there and the mine treated as their tomb. What good will it do to spend all that money on retrieving nothing recognisable ?
