Aspen & sidekick, 10am, under the kitchen window, hoping to spot me when I come into the kitchen for a coffee to get morning tea cereal as well as breakfast. Been powering thru the wheat. They’ll be ruining me – the cute little bludgers!

(They haven’t seen the camera, I’ve ducked down. Shhh. Don’t say anything. At least the little whinger’s not whining. :?)

Aww … I gave in after painting the door, after being asked so nicely by one of the family.
Anybody care to guess the name of the asker here?:

Bluey’s in my bad books. He’s pulling up the grass in my back lawn. All the others have learned clipping it is ok but pulling it up is a no-no. Bluey’s been ignoring me. It’s a good thing they’ve all learned their names. I had to dash out there today 3 times & do my block at him!

The others all went “Jesus!” and got all panicky, – and then you could see them going – “oh, wait – it’s only Bluey who’s in trouble! Phew, we can carry on clipping…”

Non Pooki sed Moae. Send them to my place when they’ve done your lawn. The dog does his best to manure the lawn, but there’s a limit to what he can do, poor boy.

I am still devastated that when a proposal of marriage comes my way, it’s for the bloody dog. What a blow to the ego.

Bluey’s the one whom the teacher knows is doing it without turning round from the blackboard.

I’ve literally had to go out there and WATCH him like a hawk this morning, Kitty. I should’ve filmed it. All four of the adults were having a graze. He was keeping an eye on me.

He went clip clip clip …
              Good boy Bluey
              clip clip clip …. pull.
              BLUEY! NO!
(looks at me, nervously) ok … clip clip clip.
Yup, that’s ok. Good Boy Bluey
Clip clip clip (oh good, Gez is not looking)… pull.
RIGHT! THAT’S IT! OVER THE FENCE, YOU!
Eeek eeek eeek flap flap flap whoosh
              Hopefully he’ll learn soon. :/

He’s taught Pickles to do it too though Kitty. I can see why farmers get irritated with them. In three days they’ve done a lot of damage to the lawn. Massive holes. They’re strong birds.

Yes, my mother and stepfather went off them fairly quickly. They had to go to great lengths to stop them ruining the garden and pulling up new plants.

Shame if I can’t stop this. It’s nice to have them all happily pecking and clipping in the yard, like chooks. Bluey’s been getting very tame, feeding up on the fence too. Not too far off coming right up to me like Sweety. Even after a telling off.

I stopped the dog digging by putting wire mesh down. The lawnmower goes over it.

I don’t have enuf mesh for that. It’s not difficult to ban them from the yard, 2 or 3 good general chase offs, does it. They get puzzled, & anxious. But they stay out after that.

              The Warehouse sells cheap mesh.

Easier to ban them all or just Bluey from the yard & go back to just feeding them over the fence.

But I like seeing them in your garden.

I must admit that the meshed area is quite small. It was a pleasant surprise that the mower doesn’t mind it, but I bet that a few rude words in Dog were heard when the little sod found it.

How about doing something that he won’t associate with you, like a squirt of water or a noise ?

            • Gezza

               /  April 14, 2018

Nah – he’ll get the message soon enuf. I don’t want to pop up home to the turangawaewae to see the whanau for a weekend until I know I’ll still have a lawn when I get back. :o)

Pickles is whining again. Garden hose in the end I’m afraid.

How about a water pistol ? It’s easier to get at and they don’t have any warning.

I sincerely hope that you weren’t thinking of smacking him with it.

            • Gezza

               /  April 15, 2018

Actually I did think of the water pistol. I still had one for discouraging one of our cats from scratching the furniture years back. I filled it and gave it a try, but it wasn’t working. Not sure why. It’s got a simple, transparent construction & I can’t see anything obviously wrong with the mechanism. I used the hose because I had to get Pickles off the neighbours’ fence, where he had been screaming his head off for half an hour. I don’t want the neighbours demanding to know what I am going to do about my annoying, noisy, screaming grandpook.

It’s a beautifully sunny morning here. I have had a yard full of pooks on and off, just come back in from serenading them in the sun with a bit of blues. Sweety was particularly interested, Bluey too. Pickles has been over the fence, where it seems he is taking care of Jojo, and he hasn’t been whining so far today.

Might post a video later in today’s GC. They’re all very well-behaved at the moment.

              Buy another one, stingy.

I can think of worse noises than a bird !

I don’t think I’ve got any footage of any of the pooks at the moment that doesn’t have Pickles’ incessant (I repeat, incessant) whinging on it. He can be heard going on, even down the parenga, for an hour or more at times. For no apparent reason, sometimes,Kitty. I have interfered with the natural process of his upbringing and this has inadvertently produced a young pook with an emotional problem or a difficulty leaving pooklethood when he should have. So I need to think through a strategy for showing him I’m an occasional benefactor, & he’s an adolescent pukeko. Or something.

There’s an American cider called Longdrop Cider.

Errrr…no, thank you, I’ll have a glass of water.

My dog had a proposal of marriage today; an arranged marriage with a Maltese bitch whose father works for the council. Alas, mine’s been neutered so there will no little Malteselets and Maltesettes from him.

How sad that the sour PDTs find it necessary to do it here on General Chat, the one place where downticks are really out of place. There were none for a while, but it’s begun again.
