The convergence of Brother Bob’s Birthday and Waitangi Day is no mere coincidence!!

Nobody is pulling up my lawn today – and the next one who does is getting another earful & shoosh over the fence – are you listening, Bluey & Pickles !! 😡

They’ve all had their little sunbathe and groom & toddle off back over the fence into the stream now.

I try not to talk baby talk to them – but I just can’t help slipping back into it. They’re so much like children ❤ 😀

Oh, loook….one’s scratching his head, clever birdie ! And there’s the darling baby ! Who’s her grandpa’s little chicky-wicky ….er….

I wonder how many hours a year we spend admiring birds. I am being delighted by who knows how many fantails at the moment, which means much time standing at windows gazing admiringly out.

Aspen is always willing to oblige when Bluey has itchy mites on his neck, but regrettably Bluey will not always reciprocate, and he only did it there for not much longer than you can see. Sweety & Aspen are better at reciprocal mite checks. One will approach the other, put their head down, and whimper. The other one will oblige with a thorough check all round their companion’s neck and head. Then generally oblige with a reciprocal thorough inspection & treatment if the other makes the same request. It’s quite endearing to watch.

Had to take the ear plugs out. Rather hear them at normal speed but sure does give you a feel for just how incredible a range of sounds these birds make: not sure if they even make them all from the same place. Don’t know of any other birdsong like it.

Some of the wide range of tui sounds are beyond the human register. Watching a tui sing, one can observe gaps in the sound when the beak is agape and throat tufts throbbing. However, ongoing research has so far failed to detect ultrasound within tui vocalisations. Tui will also sing at night, especially around the full moon period.Wiki

That slowed down version may have made some inaudible sounds audible.

I have seen the dog who really, really doesn’t want to have a bath before, but am really glad to see it again ! Worse than mine, and that’s saying something.
