Warning – could bring back bad memories

Not all childhood memories are good ones. Many will remember this, and not fondly – possibly one of the most unpopular people in town:

What an excruciating noise.

The ‘murder house’ must have been a commonly used name.

One shot in the video shows a treadle drill – I suffered that once when the power was out.

I remember the dread when a kid came into class with the dental nurse appointment card to summon you on the walk up the street to the clinic (it was three blocks away) at the allotted time.

I wonder if they were paid commission on how much drilling they did.

Once or twice I had teeth removed – no injections in those days, just had to tough it out.

It was like torture. No injections. Horrible. Dreaded every visit.
If a dentist ever uses a slow drill on me I tense up still, even with an anaesthetic.

I am still terrified of dentists and only go when I really have to.

The sound of the drill (faints)

There was a reason for there not being injections, it wasn’t meanness or sadism, but I have forgotten it.

I once went to an emergency dentist and saw an ancient foot-drill sitting there. Please let it be an artefact, not still in use, Oh, dear Heaven it was.No wonder he was the emergency dentist, nobody in their right mind would have him as their regular one.I’ll draw a veil over what it was like.

I remember the murder houses being in the school grounds (?) The victim would go and come back with the name of the next poor bugger. Please, please, let the teacher not say ‘Kitty Catkin.’

The injection is agony in itself. It seems that that is also a turnoff for children and it makes it harder for the dentist/dental nurse to do their work.

It is rather funny when one tries to have a drink afterwards and can’t find one’s mouth so the water goes everywhere.

Why does even the worst pain stop as soon as the patient goes through the dentist’s door ? It’s happened to me many times, and to other people I know.

The PDT must have liked the Murder House !

I think that Murder House is used in other countries, some things are universal.
