I wonder if the US will commit to reducing their nuclear arsenal at the same time.

Alan Wilkinson
/ April 21, 2018Another notch in Trump’s belt?
Pete George
/ April 21, 2018He may well have contributed, but I expect Kim will mostly be acting for his own interests.
Alan Wilkinson
/ April 21, 2018The trick was to make Kim’s interests the same as Trump’s. The art of negotiating: setting the scene.
Pete George
/ April 21, 2018And to make Trumps interests the same as Kim’s. These things are usually manoeuvring from both sides.
Who stands to benefit the most?
Alan Wilkinson
/ April 21, 2018Hard to see any losers except the Democrats.
David
/ April 21, 2018“Who stands to benefit the most?”
Does it matter? If the overall outcome is positive, why would it be a worthwhile question.
artcroft
/ April 21, 2018Hard to what scene has been set. Kim made huge strides in accelerating and developing NK’s nuclear capabilities. He now holds better cards in his hand so I can’t see him folding. Also no one is suggesting that his grip on NK is anything but tight.
So the scene is: What does Kim want and what does Trump want?
If Trump says Kim can keep his nukes in exchange for no further testing expect big probs in SK/Japan – USA relations.
artcroft
/ April 21, 2018Depends. Does Kim want to be recognised as a legitimate nuclear power. This brings heighten prestige at UN and sets the scene in his favour in talks with S.Korea. Who will be the senior party at such talks, the power house economy of SKorea or the nuclear ally of China, N.Korea. Kim is looking like a clever deal maker. Can Trump keep up.
artcroft
/ April 21, 2018Still hats off to Trump. This is the biggest movement in NK relations in decades.
Gezza
/ April 21, 2018The notches in Trump’s belt all seem to be suing him & telling all.
David
/ April 21, 2018All of them? That is going to keep the courts busy for a few decades then…
NOEL
/ April 21, 2018Suggest you go to 38 north and read their previous commentaries.
So far Kim’s living up to expectations.
Trunp influence minor but he will take all the credit.
Alan Wilkinson
/ April 21, 2018Not credible.
Gezza
/ April 21, 2018Yes it is. Kim’s working Trump quite well so far. Trump thinks he might be winning, but given the positive sentiments about denuclearisation & dialogue & rapproachment in South Korea, Kim KNOWS that HE is.
Alan Wilkinson
/ April 21, 2018Win-win is the art of the deal, G.
David
/ April 21, 2018“Trump thinks he might be winning, but given the positive sentiments about denuclearisation & dialogue & rapproachment in South Korea, Kim KNOWS that HE is.”
Please explain how Trump loses from this exactly?
Gezza
/ April 21, 2018The play is not yet over & we haven’t seen this one before. Let’s just wait & see what happens. The worst that can happen is a win-win & if that happens it’s down to Kim, not Trump, because he was never going to fire a nuclear-tipped missile at the US & get annihilated or deposed.
David
/ April 21, 2018“The worst that can happen is a win-win & if that happens it’s down to Kim, not Trump, because he was never going to fire a nuclear-tipped missile at the US & get annihilated or deposed.”
How is a win-win the ‘worst’ that can happen? It was only a few weeks ago the media was screaming about it being near Armageddon.
Gezza
/ April 21, 2018It’s the worst that can happen to those who love screaming we HAVE TO NUKE OR INVADE NORTH KOREA!
NOEL
/ April 21, 2018The US wants denuclearization, North Korea their security.
Kim’s stopped Nuclear weapon and ICBM developement for now and closed the test site which has become instable.
Shane Le Brun
/ April 21, 2018was it all a game of madman chicken? if something went wrong, say a small navy boat was sunk……. who knows what trump would do to NK?
Pete George
/ April 21, 2018It was certainly a very high risk game of brinkmanship.
And whatever is said publicly, some skepticism is in order, given the ongoing chemical weapon issues in Syria.
David
/ April 21, 2018You mean like this kind of small navy boat?

Trevors_elbow
/ April 21, 2018Look over there…. nothing to do with Trumps tactics…. nada I tell ya…
David
/ April 21, 2018The cognitive dissonance for many admitting Trump has played this masterfully would be too painful. It will be interesting to see how they rearrange it to cope.
David
/ April 21, 2018Art of the Deal, good work Trump. And while the left scramble around to find a reason this happened despite Trump you lot were saying he was pushing us to WW3 a few months ago so you cant have it both ways.
If Obama had achieved this the lefties would be awarding the 2nd Nobel Prize by now.
Blazer
/ April 21, 2018‘Art of the Deal’…another TRUMP…fake.
David
/ April 21, 2018“If Obama had achieved this the lefties would be awarding the 2nd Nobel Prize by now.”
Who would want to see the expression on Obama’s face when Trump gets one and has that sumg look and grin. “I got one too!”
seer
/ April 22, 2018With his tweets, Trump will be in the running for a Nobel Prize in literature, will he not?
Zedd
/ April 22, 2018I also hear the ‘earth is flat’ the ‘moon is a balloon’ & the ‘WAR on Drugs is over’.. do I believe any of these ? ho hum 😦
Zedd
/ April 22, 2018All we hear from Mr T ‘AMAZING.. FANTASTIC.. TREMENDOUS.. BEST EVER…’ all talking about who ?
btw; I see Mr Kim walking about clapping.. looks just like Mr T… MORE FAKE NEWS ?!?
Gezza
/ April 22, 2018I dunno who Kim’s hairdresser is but, man, the hairstyle he’s got at the moment is a shocker! Weird as. Not even David Beckham would be game to sport that cut.
But everybody claps it like crazy – & I imagine you wouldn’t survive long if you lived there & you said something that could be considered even remotely less than that it’s an ecstatically becoming coiffure was overheard by some school kid.
