I watched Newshub Nation; talking the propsed ‘closing of charter schools’. The following issues, caught my attention:

    1) the two ‘pro-charter schools’ people, were talking re; ‘business models’

    2) the ‘anti’ person talked purely in regard to public education & equality for all students; curriculum & funding

    3) one of the ‘pro’ people said under charter schools they can have classes 15-1, whereas public schools are about 30-1. IF they are getting the same level of funding then something must be being cut; wages for unqualified teachers OR other cuts; admin etc.

    4) it was made clear that this Govt. are not about blanket closure, more about ensuring they meet certain requirements, as in public schools. IF yes then they can stay open.

BUT the cynic in me.. again thinks that charter schools are just private schools under another name & ‘follow the money’ !

It was followed by a ‘panel of experts’.. one said ‘IF charter schools are; receiving same level of funding & teaching to the curriculum, then what is really different ?’ & ‘How can they possibly afford to have class sizes that are half the size of public schools ?’
sounds like they are perhaps, not telling the ‘whole truth’ ??

You’ve accidentally hit on the truth here. If the money followed the students then all schools would be on the same playing field – public and private. What’s not to like about that – apart from the public teacher unions.

‘What’s not to like about that – apart from the public teacher unions.’

The Teacher Unions are the BEST part Alan; they are about ensuring that the ‘Business plan’ does not get ahead of ensuring that teachers are being paid appropriatley & the curriculum etc. is being implemented correctly. Remember the SHAM that was IANZ !

listening to ZB talk-back last night.. there are still some ‘Tories’ in denial; one lady was full of vitriol & said ‘Jacinda is overseas meeting these heads of Govt.& the Queen.. do they realise she did NOT win the election & does not deserve to be PM’ (paraphrasing comments).

to which the host stopped her & said ‘whilst Natl did get the biggest party vote.. Labour did form the Govt. & Welcome to MMP !!’

One guy was ranting about the funding cuts to the roads & how the greens are leading this. He went on about Ms Genter.. even questioning whether she is a NZ citizen & allowed to be in parliament ?

Yes she was born in USA, but she is a resident or citizen of NZ

once again proving; how IGNORANT/prejudicial some folks really are…

one person was going on about ‘all the maori words & place names.. that are RAMMED down our throats’ & how this is not the NZ she was brought up in..

“Welcome to the 21st century folks”.. is all I can add 😀
