  • Please don’t post anything illegal, potentially defamatory or abusive.

FIRST TIME COMMENTERS: Due to abuse by a few first comments under any ID will park in moderation until released (as soon as possible but it can sometimes take a while).

Sometimes comments will go into moderation or spam automatically due to mistyped ID, too many links (>4), or trigger text or other at risk criteria.

Free speech is an important principle here but some people who might pose a risk to the site will have to keep going through moderation due to abuses by a small number of malicious people.

A group of planetary scientists and former astronauts fighting to save the world from catastrophic asteroid impacts claim there’s a huge hole in our defence strategy and “we will be hit”.

    • It’s a good bet earth will be hit at some time, and it could be catastrophic, but it may or not be in this century, or this millennium.

Oh well. This planet’s a life-making machine. If everything gets wiped out it just starts producing more wonderful new forms all over again. In the overall scheme of things, we’re just the result of genetic damage to shrews.

        • Humans are on the same primate tree as lemurs.

And where did the primates branch off from, & where did that ancestral branch originate … and so on, back to Chicxulub.

I’ve always believed that apes evolved from humans.

Occasionally you come across some humans who seem to have evolved from stoats. No names tho.

Never fear, we have ACC and EQC and Saint Jacinda to look after us.

Aw gee so we could have ended up as chimps, gorillas, orangutans and now lemurs.
Then again there is some resemblance in the way some act.

“From a research point of view, one constant problem was that the label ‘Māori’ covered a wide range of cultural understandings and levels of immersion.” Acknowledging this, however, I would also assert that there also exists a common identity in contemporary Māori society as tangata whenua (Webber, 2008).

I am (half) watching Dancing With the Stars because I know one of them, no other reason. They haven’t been on yet…

I wonder if it would have been considered acceptable for a male dancer to kick a female one downstairs or one of the men to suggestively stroke a woman’s bare chest (and some of them are all but bare, like Shav Rakete’s in her lace bodystocking that looks as if the front seam has given way,,,and as if she forgot to put her skirt on) as Marama Fox did with her partner.

i don’t usually watch TV but it sounds good (for once).

I don’t usually watch it, either, except Antiques Roadshow when I remember. And the news, such as it is. If mine dies, I may well not replace it. Looking through the freeview selection reveals a lot of American stuff that sounds so feeble that it’s hard to imagine anyone wanting to watch it, although I suppose that somebody must. I hope that I am never that hard up for something to do.
