I saw a parrot across the road today. It didn’t look like a rosella, so somebody’s pet may have done a runner.

Hetty is a small but gutsy little sparrer, not a dunnock. In fact, most of my flock of dunnocks is sparrers 😦

I actually have fewer dunnocks than sparrers. My sparrers smaller than wot I remember them from before.

When I went into my kitchen about 4.30 pm the four pooks were on the lawn, and suddenly I had about 4 lady sparrers fluttering like hummingbirds a foot from the window. They did this yesterday too.

They obviously keep an eye out for the pooks, & when they see them all in my yard in the morning and the late afternoon, the sparrers all assemble nearby too.

Of course when I whipped the cellcam out to catch these birds doing this neat-looking hovering thing, none of them were interested in repeating the feat. Until I put the cellcam away! >:D

I have them flying from tree to tree like a relay race. It looks very strange. Now that I know how many are dunnocks and not house sparrers, I wonder that I didn’t notice or wonder how there were so many sparrers. They look quite different (memo to self, no bibs)

I don’t see it so much on this lawn because trees are in the way, but I love to see goldfinches ‘marching’ with military precision. Graze, graze, graze….HOP ! and so on. One gives the cue and they all follow.

I am seeing a reasonable number of admiral butterflies. It’s hard to tell what they are from the back (red or black) but they’re admirals.

Sparrers are the ultimate survivors; remember when they went down to 1/10 of their number ?
