      There was one amongst me sparrers this morning. He decided they weren’t his kind of people.

        They like to be in crowds of goldfinches*; I seldom see just one. No reflection on the sparrers, goldfinches are rather shy and have limited social skills. The sight of them moving as one is charming.

        * clones of goldfinches ?

          I’m having to think up a plan to try and catch one the air-dancing sparrers here. The little devils just do it once for a few seconds. and won’t repeat the performance until e.g. ma rings and when I’m holding the phone talking to her one of them will go & do it again. I may have a next best plan. I notice that if one does it, and I then go out the back door & call the aerobat will sometimes fly round into the patio and hover briefly very close to me before dropping to the ground and waiting.

          Brucie did that today. Brucie is an older sparrer with a bent starboard tail feather and a little hook at the end of his beak.

          Hetty flies up and perches on the frame of the door screen with her face pressed against it looking in. But then flits down before the camera’s ready. Once she’s got my attention there’s no repeat performance.

            CCTV ?

            I wish that I was a ballet choreographer and could do something like the Fantail Ballet, as I have never seen anything like it and probably never will again. Can you imagine feeling the wind from those little wings ?

            My sparrers do air-dancing, but it’s not in the same league,

            They sort of go round each other (hard to explain) and up and down like rubber balls, They also do speedflying between the trees, and relays,

            The next best thing to the ballet was the two waxeyes flying in at dog height and colliding with him. The sight of all three going up in the air before they spun around and whizzed back was terribly funny.

            So was a wee sparrer girl who dropped her bread and had it seized by someone on the other side almost before it hit the ground. The beak and head appeared like magic. The unlucky sparrer gazed all around, wondering what had happened, but there was plenty left,

            They didn’t like the flakes at the bottom o the Weetbix bag which I gave them as a treat. It took ages to sweep them off the table. Ungrateful birds. I thought that they’d love them.
