Trump ‘campaign spy’ claim refuted

As has become normal, Donald Trump made a big claim via Twitter on Friday based on what appear to be nothing more than vague rumours.

And as usual, this seems to have been somewhat embellished.

NY Times: F.B.I. Used Informant to Investigate Russia Ties to Campaign, Not to Spy, as Trump Claims

President Trump accused the F.B.I. on Friday, without evidence, of sending a spy to secretly infiltrate his 2016 campaign “for political purposes” even before the bureau had any inkling of the “phony Russia hoax.”

In fact, F.B.I. agents sent an informant to talk to two campaign advisers only after they received evidence that the pair had suspicious contacts linked to Russia during the campaign. The informant, an American academic who teaches in Britain, made contact late that summer with one campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos, according to people familiar with the matter. He also met repeatedly in the ensuing months with the other aide, Carter Page, who was also under F.B.I. scrutiny for his ties to Russia.

No evidence has emerged that the informant acted improperly when the F.B.I. asked for help in gathering information on the former campaign advisers, or that agents veered from the F.B.I.’s investigative guidelines and began a politically motivated inquiry, which would be illegal.

Trump has never been bothered much about evidence when making accusations and claims, but he is demanding an investigation

Fox News: Trump to ‘demand’ Justice probe whether feds spied on campaign for political purposes

Promoting a theory that is circulating, Trump quoted Fox Business anchor David Asman and tweeted Friday: “Apparently the DOJ put a Spy in the Trump Campaign. This has never been done before and by any means necessary, they are out to frame Donald Trump for crimes he didn’t commit.”

But Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani cast some doubt on that.

On whether there was an “informant” in the 2016 presidential campaign, Giuliani told CNN, “I don’t know for sure, nor does the president, if there really was one,” though he said they have long been told there was “some kind of infiltration.”

Perhaps another investigation would clarify the extent of the FBI attention given the trump campaign, but it would also add another ring to the Trump circus.

What trumpophile idiot was pushing this spy in the camp rumour yesterday? >:D

This one. Same idiot who said Trump/Russia was bullshit back in the day.
It’ll be proven correct – you will only have a skewered view if you only get your news from pro-progressive, ant-Trump sources….
Funny 😁Your NZ runs mostly fake anti-Trump stories, and has the cheek to call Trump a circus, The real circus was hiding in plain view under the Obama tent.

Meh, more trumpian Twitter bluster to distract from the fact that trump’s campaign welcomed foreign help to win the presidential election.

5 guilty pleas including Trump’s former NSA, 1 incarceration, 14 indictments, including Trump’s former campaign manager.

Maureen, it’s one thing to support trump and believe he is not guilty (🙄) of anything but to say there’s nothing significant here and the real circus is hiding under Obama’s administration is downright delusional.

Your outrage about this one incident is particularly notable, given that neither trump nor nunes nor anyone else running cover for the Trump administration has ever expressed similar outrage about all the Trump aides that other countries were dangling money and other goods to brush up against. Those include (and this list is far from comprehensive):

        – Russian academics paying Carter Page to speak in Moscow
        – A pro-Russian Syrian group paying Don Jr to speak in Paris
        – Multiple Russian banks floating massive amounts of support to Jared
        – Russia’s RT paying Mike Flynn to appear at an event with Putin
        – Turkish pass-throughs paying Flynn to make a movie
        – Saudi, Israeli, and Emirati sources offering campaign assistance
        – Oleg Deripaska offering to forgive Paul Manafort’s $20 million debt for updates on the trump campaign
        – Russians offering dirt on Hillary to get a meeting with trump’s campaign manager, son, and son-in-law

Even the Carter Page Moscow trip was more lucrative than the Papadopoulos research. And the other valuable things offered to campaign aides, by spooked-up sources from a range of countries, were tens or millions of dollars more valuable than what Halper offered, usually without any legit purpose tied to it.

Maureen were you outraged by the reports of Cohen asking for corporate money, in order to facilitate meetings with Team trump? How about when Jared asked for Qatari money to help keep 666 Park Avenue going? Any expressions of disdain when Kelly Anne Conway was pushing Ivanka’s clothing line? Nah – didn’t think so

That’s lovely Joe, what do they have on Trump again? Nothing!
Funny that your outrage has moved from the main ring to the extras as Meuller’s witch-hunt comes up empty.

Dear Maur – I’ve never moved out of the main ring – your mafia mates in the WH have simply opoened up a couple of new rings for their performances…

I’ll say again – because you’ve missed it – your outrage about this is particularly notable, given that neither trump nor nunes nor anyone else running cover for the Trump administration has ever expressed similar outrage about all the Trump aides that other countries were dangling money and other goods to brush up against.

Only thing is, I’m not outraged.
Intrigued to watch an opposition party trying to effect a coup of a duly elected president is entertaining to watch, especially when they’re losing.
You would have to wonder why the spooks in Obama’s administration needed an “insurance policy” against Trump winning the election when Pete’s gospel on all things Trump, gave Clinton an 85% chance of winning. You don’t think they would publish skewed bullshit do you?

So at the same time the likes of Comey were conspiring with their mates and media to provoke a Special Counsel attack on Trump they were deploying their well-worn spy resources to protect him.

    What utter b.s.

The hideous hypocrisy of the Left exposed again:
WASHINGTON — In June 2017, the Senate reaffirmed the Jerusalem Embassy Act, which called on Washington to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, by a 90-0 vote. With not a single Democrat or Republican voting against the measure, it obviously was a bipartisan vote.

But there was nothing bipartisan about the congressional delegation attending the opening ceremony of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem last Monday. Four Republican senators attended, as did 10 GOP House members. There wasn’t a single Democrat in the bunch.

Joe Lieberman, a former Democratic senator from Connecticut and a co-author of the original 1995 legislation that passed the Senate with 93 votes, did attend. Lieberman figured that there are close to 250 Democrats in Congress, and said, “You’d think one would have come.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told reporters that he personally invited Democratic colleagues, and he was hurt they didn’t show. Ditto Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., who led the delegation for the House Armed Services Committee.

“That no Democrats could be bothered to fly out made it by definition a partisan event,” Republican consultant Arie Lipnick told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Democrats have been uncharacteristically silent about their absence.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is not exactly camera shy, and he’s a gung-ho champion of Israel. Yet somehow he didn’t show for the historic embassy opening, which he has advocated for decades and which kept a key campaign promise by President Donald Trump.

And this, a sickening account of the Obama administration’s international weakness:
    https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/05/19/michael-mcfaul-book-excerpt-218408

Unlike Obama, Trump will not allow his envoys to be treated with contempt by other countries. Ironic that those who did are the first to treat Trump with contempt that they richly deserve themselves.

Trump won’t roll over like Obama. He’s already socked Putin with sanctions.

Oh, yeah. Sure. Putin doesn’t dick Trump around. Much. But do you have any articles from his envoys in Russia saying they don’t get this treatment?

This is Obama’s legacy – tolerating a campaign of harrassment of its embassy staff:

Do a Google search “us ambassador russia harassed”

Heaps of results – all Obama weak time.

Trump is blowing smoke. What he really wants is the DoJ to tell him what Mueller has on him. I don’t think Rudy 911 and Manhattan developer bluster are gonna be enough to find that out.
