      Possibly you mean armature, Lurch?

      armature
      ˈɑːmətʃə,ˈɑːmətj(ʊ)
      noun
      1. the rotating coil or coils of a dynamo or electric motor.
      2. an open framework on which a sculpture is moulded with clay or similar material.

I think National will go for a near outright majority…maybe with a rejuvenated Maori Party who’ll pick up votes from Labours kupapa Maori MPs’. Auckland will deliver lush dividends for National as the Petrol Tax bites, and middle class socialists switch to National hoping to maintain a dwindling standard of living.

I don’t really see what they gain from Seymour & if it’s a tight race I’d cut him loose. He seems to be going from being a useful idiot to just the latter without the adjective.

Yep, it’s always the ‘middle classes’ who have to be watched politically, be they ‘socialist’ (nowadays a title totally misused by Righties to describe anyone with a modicum of social conscience) or be they Centre-Alt-Far-Right Secular-Christian Ultra-Conservatives …

At least the latter’s biggest excuser and promoter, Jordan Peterson, has been thoroughly debunked …

True Alan, they’re no longer studying a single compartment of atomized knowledge, but a much more holistic environmental picture … and this is revolutionary and even seditious to conventional, orthodox science … despite orthodox science being hardly any older than ecological science …

“The history of ecology is intertwined with the history of conservation efforts, in particular the founding of the Nature Conservancy … Ecology before Darwin, however, is analogous to medicine prior to Pasteur’s discovery of the infectious nature of disease. The history is there, but it is only partly relevant.

Interest in the environment created by the American Dust Bowl produced a flurry of calls in 1935 for ecology to take a look at practical issues. Pioneering ecologist C. C. Adams wanted to return human ecology to the science … World War II, perhaps, caused the issue to be put aside. (WWII has a lot to answer for?) …

The second event was the publication of Silent Spring. Rachel Carson’s book brought ecology as a word and concept to the public. Her influence was instant. A study committee, prodded by the publication of the book, reported to the ESA that their science was not ready to take on the responsibility being given to it.[76]

Carson’s concept of ecology was very much that of Gene Odum.[77] As a result, ecosystem science dominated the International Biological Program of the 1960s and 1970s, bringing both money and prestige to ecology … ”

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_ecology#History_and_Relationship_between_Ecology_and_Conservation_and_Environmental_movements

As might be argued with Art, much of the history of Science is about patronage – funding – and a great deal of modern-day patronage stems from governments …

Consequently, like many artists, scientists have been playing politics all along, AS WELL AS doing science …

The idea that the two are mutually exclusive beggars belief … Let’s renounce thought and deny reason, shall we?

      From the article:

Human rights commissioners Dame Susan Devoy and Dr Jackie Blue are leaving the troubled agency as a management shake-up continues.

Disability Rights Commissioner Paula Tesoriero has been appointed acting head of the Human Rights Commission. She is replacing Chief Human Rights Commissioner David Rutherford, who has decided to leave his role.

The changeover in leadership follows a critical review of the commission’s internal processes and culture by retired judge Coral Shaw.

Blue, a former National MP, is not seeking reappointment after her term as a commissioner ends next month. Devoy, a former squash champ, will also exit next month.

      Were these two National appointees?

      • Alan Wilkinson

         /  May 25, 2018

        I think so.

        • Gezza

           /  May 25, 2018

The Government-ordered review was critical of the commission’s governance and management, saying that there was a deep divide between some staff and managers.

The review was sparked by the commission’s handling of a sexual harassment case, and concluded that misconduct was not prevalent at the commission.

But it also revealed dysfunctional leadership at the organisation and said that commissioners “barely communicated with each other”.There were “deep-seated personality clashes” among the commissioners, in particular between Devoy and Rutherford.

What idiot was the PM at the time?

What a laugh the national party is,Gerry with his “silly little girl)situation and (crusher) point scoring over Phil but the BIG scandal is nationals past.In 2015 on a large farm complex in Southland,3 farms and national didn’t do anything to 2017.Mycoplasma Bovis appears when cows stress and wow did cows stress under farm intensification under the USELESS minister of agriculture CARTER So many big donors had to be protected even if it ruined agriculture in New Zealand, right Sir Key…this could be why you bailed out NATIONAL not a party for farmers, tossers really

“The Minister of Transport during the time when deaths and serious injuries rose so alarmingly was National’s Simon Bridges. He declined to talk to the Weekend Herald and referred us to the party’s new transport spokesperson, Jami-Lee Ross …

Ross did not accept his government had underfunded road safety. He blamed the police, saying: “Decisions around how to allocate funding are up to the Commissioner of Police.” … But he also said his government “possibly could have done more”” – NZHeraldo

‘Failings all round: Auckland’s catastrophic road safety record’ – an excellent ‘long read’ from the Herald …

“Dying on our roads – the statistics
    • We are driving 1% faster per year. A 1% increase in speed equals 4%
    • Driving 5% slower would reduce the nmber of fatalies by 20%
    • The number of gh school students killed or seriously injured has risen 89% in the last ur years
33% fewer alcohol breathtests by police than in 2015
    • 40% of vehicleshave a one or two star safety rating out of five
    • 100 people who were killed on roads last year were not wearing their seatbelts
    • This is up from an average of 57 in 2012-2015
    • Auckland has seen a 78% rise in road deaths over three years. Deaths and serious injuries have grown five times faster tan the number of vehicles

    Up last year on 2016:

    • 70% – alcohol-related crashes causing death or serious injury
    • 57% – Cost in ACC payouts on road crashes compared to 2010
    • 47% – Speed related deaths
    • 39% – failures to give way or stop

I feel a conspiracy theory coming on …. along the lines of … “it certainly adds weight to the case for the only truly ‘safe’ highway roading option … Roads of National Significance …

    • Alan Wilkinson

       /  May 25, 2018

The 1% -> 4% claim is utter drivel. Motorways are fastest and safest.

    • PartisanZ

       /  May 25, 2018

No takers on my conspiracy theory?

Let’s review – a government purposely under funds road policing and road safety so that increasingly unsafe roads will ‘legitimize’ and ‘promote’ its Roads of National Significance policy which promises vastly improved safety but only covers a minuscule percentage of the nation’s entire roading network at staggeringly enormous cost … It is fiscally irresponsible.

The RoNS policy is thereby written in human blood … It also presages the eventual ‘privatization’ of all roading …

It’s only a theory … but if you think about some of the fairly commonplace and popular conspiracy theories they ask us to suspend a great deal more ‘disbelief’ than this …

What about ‘Chemtrails’ … New World Order … False Flag Operations … Cultural Marxism …

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_conspiracy_theories

The only question in my mind: Is anyone in National both intelligent and heartless enough to work out such a conspiracy?

      Ummmmmmmmmm …

      • Gezza

         /  May 25, 2018

Your conspiracy theory is that rather than being penurious and incompetent the Key and English National Governments deliberately designed and implemented a roading policy specifically intended to kill & maim more people in order to achieve the privatisation of roading policy. Correct?

Sergeant Bertram said that the bombers in Thursday’s attack were both light-skinned men, and wore hoodies pulled up over their heads and face coverings. A police canine unit and SWAT team tried to track them, “but we didn’t come up with anybody,” he said.

Too early to say. The last couple of folk found with explosive devices in North America seem to have been white native Americans in the US, one of them a schoolkid who went on a shooting rampage, as they do there.

Yup. I mean, who knows, but Pakistanis aren’t usually light-skinned and it doesn’t take much to set off white racists these days – Trumpy even stirs them up & gets their votes.

US shock jock Alex Jones sued by six more families of Sandy Hook victims
Mr Jones calls the lawsuit an attack on the First Amendment

Family members of six victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting have sued radio host Alex Jones for allegedly suggesting the 2012 massacre was a hoax.

The plaintiffs in the suit, filed on Wednesday in a Connecticut court, claim Mr Jones was the “chief amplifier” for a group that “worked in concert to create and propagate loathsome, false narratives about the Sandy Hook victims, and promote their harassment and abuse”.

Mr Jones is the host of far-right radio show InfoWars, and boasts more than 2m subscribers on YouTube. He is known for promulgating conspiracy theories like “Pizzagate” – the false theory that Democrats were running a child sex trafficking ring out of the basement of a Washington DC pizza restaurant.

The lawsuit claims that, as a result of Mr Jones’s statements, the victims families were forced to endure “malicious and cruel abuse at the hands of ruthless and unscrupulous people” . The abuse allegedly included death threats and physical harassment, as well as strangers video taping them, according to the lawsuit. Some families even moved to undisclosed locations to avoid the harassment.
