Israel intercepts Gaza boat after setting sail to break blockade
Israeli naval forces have intercepted a Palestinian vessel hours after it sailed off the coast of the besieged Gaza Strip, Israeli media reported. The boat, carrying 25 Palestinians, was transferred on Tuesday to the Israeli port of Ashdod on Tuesday, according to the Israeli army.

Those on board were attempting to break an Israeli-imposed siege for the first time in more than a decade, and had set off with the intention of reaching Limassol, a coastal city in southern Cyprus.

Palestinian medics struggle to provide healthcare amid attacks
Occupied Territories experience second-highest number of attacks on health workers after Syria.

In the moments before he was shot, Hasna noticed a woman 30 metres away, struggling to break free from the barbed wire she was stuck on. The woman was hysterical, trying to reach her wounded son but unable to move, also having been tear-gassed.

As Hasna was rushing towards the woman, he suddenly fell to the ground – he had been shot with a pulverising “butterfly” bullet that exploded through his right leg and settled into his left.

Palestinians face explosive bullets, dangerous gas bombs

When he was hit by a bullet fired by Israeli forces during demonstrations in Gaza on April 6, Mohammed al-Zaieem lost so much blood, and his left leg was so deformed, he feared he wouldn’t survive.

His arteries, veins and a large piece of bone were destroyed. His right leg wasn’t spared either as the round created a massive exit wound and then hit it as well. By the time he was transferred to Istishari Arab Hospital in Ramallah after undergoing seven surgeries in Gaza, there was nothing doctors could do to save his left leg.

Medics on the ground say Israeli forces are shooting at demonstrators with a new type of round – never seen before – known as the “butterfly bullet”, which explodes upon impact, pulverizing tissue, arteries and bone, while causing severe internal injuries. All 24 amputees were shot with a single explosive bullet, including journalists Yaser Murtaja and Ahmad Abu Hussein who succumbed to their wounds after being shot in the abdomen. “All of their internal organs were totally destroyed, pulverized,” said Ashraf al-Qedra, Gaza’s health ministry spokesman.

A spokesperson from the Israeli army rejected the allegations.

“The IDF only employs means that are lawful under international law. No new bullets or gas have been employed during the recent events in the Gaza Strip,” the spokesperson said in an email to Al Jazeera.

Many have documented how Israel has “turned the occupied territories into a laboratory for refining, testing and showcasing its weapons systems”, which it later sells worldwide with the advertisement that the products have been “tested in combat”.

Israel is smaller than New York, yet it’s believed to be the largest per capita weapons exporter in the world.

The butterfly bullet, however, isn’t the only new weapon featured prominently in the protests in Gaza.

Palestinians have also noted an unknown toxic gas launched at demonstrators, which provokes severe convulsions. The yellow-green gas has caused many who were exposed to it to convulse, their legs and bodies thrashing violently as they lay on the ground.

Well, Bibi needs to make an offer that includes the right of return of the Palestinian diaspora to a separate Palestinian State & see how they get on. I don’t think he will. I think he’s happy to keep provoking them into launching ineffective attacks so he can kill them, tbh.

We wont relitigate, but suffice to say Israel has agreed to a number of brokered settlements including significant loss of land and pulling back of settlements. The Palestinians have backed out on all of them, and often stepped up violence.
If right of return into Israel is a bottom line, the Palestinians can settle in for generations of squalor and violence. The 2 state solution has only one side preventing resolution, and that is the one with the destruction of one of those states as part of its charter.

Israel launches attacks in Gaza after ‘projectiles’ fired
The Israeli military has launched a series of air strikes on Palestinian positions in Gaza on Tuesday after a barrage of rocket fire from the Strip. More than 35 targets belonging to Hamas and Islamic Jihad, including a tunnel that stretches into Israel, were hit by warplanes, the Israeli military said.

The strikes came after the Israeli army said Palestinian fighters were behind a “barrage of projectiles” fired from Gaza into southern Israel.

Military officials said the state’s Iron Dome aerial defence system intercepted most of the 28 rockets and mortar rounds that were fired into Israel. The Israeli military said three soldiers were wounded, two lightly and one moderately. No casualties were immediately reported on the Gazan side.

“No country in the world would or should accept such threats to its civilian population. Neither do we,” Emmanuel Nahshon, an Israeli foreign ministry spokesman, wrote on Twitter.

Just hours after the Israeli strikes on Gaza, sirens were heard in southern Israel, the Israeli Haaretz daily reported. Israeli forces said on Twitter that it had intercepted “several launches”.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the firing of the rockets, which came after Islamic Jihad vowed to take revenge after its members were killed.

    ‘Zionist aggression’
The incident comes a day after Israeli troops killed a Palestinian who allegedly approached Gaza’s border with Israel, and two days after Israeli tank fire killed three people in an attack on a military observation post belonging to Islamic Jihad fighters.

An Islamic Jihad leader in Gaza said on Tuesday “as long as there is occupation, resistance is a legitimate right for the Palestinian people”. “Israel keeps up with its aggression, we stick to the two options: popular protests and resistance responding to the Zionist aggression,” Khaled al-Batsh told The Associated Press news agency.

Russia, US and Jordan discuss need to preserve truce in Syria
Washington has threatened the Syrian Government that it will act if it moves against the rebels in Darat & Quneitra. The US, along with Russia and Jordan are guarantors of a ceasefire in those Southern provinces. Israel is also threatening Iranian forces in Syria, and have been attacking Iranian sites in Syria, although there are reports Iranian forces have withdrawn from the front lines in Southern Syria and re-positioned closer to Damascus.

Moscow says there is an agreement to hold a three-way meeting between Russia, the US and Jordan to discuss the de-escalation zone in southern Syria.

The announcement came as it was reported that Syrian government forces were being sent to the area in preparation for an offensive.

Such an attack could compromise an area that is part of the de-escalation zone agreement.

Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr reports from Beirut in the video clip.

Prisoner kills two female officers with own guns in Liege terror attack
The gunman who shot dead two female police officers and a male car passenger was reportedly released from prison on Monday.

The 36-year-old was released from prison on Monday for a few hours but he failed to return. He was serving time for drug offences, media reported.

It is thought he may have been radicalised in jail. An AFP source close to the investigation he had contacts with radical Islamists and had “been reported or presumed to be belonging to the entourage of an Islamist recruiter”.

Authorities said terrorism could not be ruled out and media reports said the man shouted “Allahu Akbar” – “God is greatest” in Arabic.

So Joe Bloggs was peddling fake news the other day claiming Trump had denied a WH spokesperson. Don’t expect any apologies from the lying Left though:
    http://thefederalist.com/2018/05/28/media-double-down-after-new-york-times-gets-busted-peddling-fake-news/

And putting the “Kick Me” sign where it belongs:

trump accused the NYTimes of using a WH source that didn’t exist. Clearly the source does exist. If you deny that Alan, then you’re even thicker than you come across.

As for using the kings of fake news, the Federalist, for your source, more fool you for backing a lying con artist.

         /  May 30, 2018

If you can point to the WH source that said the meeting is “impossible” as reported I’ll take on more of what you say,
The whole point of the article was that said source showed that Trump and his advisors were at odds. Once more, show me the source who proves the premise of the article and I’ll believe they exist.

        • Joe Bloggs

           /  May 30, 2018

the point of the article was that trump denied the existence of the background briefer

B.s. Joe. There was no source that said what was claimed by the lying Left. Suck it up and stop wasting our time and yours.

       /  May 30, 2018

Normally I wouldn’t give oxygen-thieves and trolls the time of day, but Alan’s lies and HFD’s patently fake manipulation of my post deserve some sunlight. Here’s what I wrote:

      Trump’s lies exposed again…

The source the Times used in its story wasn’t only real but he talked from a podium of the White House briefing room to dozens of reporters who were present – it was Matt Pottinger, who serves on the NSC

trump claimed the source didn’t exist. The source did. I pointed that out and was specific about who the source was – Matt Pottinger.

See folks, that’s me identifying sources. I name them. And it’s me using trump’s very own tweet to locate the lie.

And see folks, this morning’s interchange between me and trump’s supporters Alan and HFD demonstrates how the frothy right manipulate, and lie, and dissemble, and mislead, and twist facts, and misrepresent, and deflect, and exaggerate, and misconstrue, and make so many false claims that cold hard truths get lost amidst their foam-flecked Orwellian spin.

QED … with the help of the frothy right.

Cue yet more predictable outrage from the frothy right determined to ignore the gigantic orange elephant in the room.

Yep, you named him and it turns out he never said what was claimed. As the Federalist story showed with an actual transcript whereupon you resort to abusing the messenger. Pathetic effort, in fact disgraceful.

        • Joe Bloggs

           /  May 30, 2018

point of fact: I didn’t comment on what Pottinger said
point of fact: neither did trump
point of fact: trump claimed Pottinger didn’t exist. He does exist, ergo trump lied
point of fact: you misrepresented my post and you continue to do so

Pathetic effort to dissemble, in fact disgraceful.

Repeating a lie doesn’t make it true, Joe. There is no source for a statement that was never made. Give up and go and lie down in a dark room until you get some sense back.

           /  May 30, 2018

It’s plain to see what’s going on in the above. Alan’s been caught out dissembling and he’s not coping at all well.

      • High Flying Duck

         /  May 30, 2018

As per above, if you can find a source who does exist and who said holding the meeting on 12 June would be impossible, other than the keyboard of the NY Times, I’ll happily retract.

There was a source who said no such thing, and who didn’t provide any semblance of substance for what the article asserted – but they didn’t report on him in the article, did they…

Trey Gowdy on Fox News covering the frothy right’s “Spygate” conspiracy theory:

I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got,

    • Alan Wilkinson

       /  May 30, 2018

He’s also convinced Trump is not a target of Mueller’s investigation. Kind of spoils your next “totally fake news” doesn’t it?

      • Joe Bloggs

         /  May 31, 2018

Back when Gowdy announced he was retiring, he said that he’d been too hyper-partisan as a politician, and he said he wanted to become a judge or prosecutor.

That’s the kind of job you only get if you can credibly paint yourself as being reasonable.

So you might conclude that Gowdy is throwing trump under the bus in an effort at positioning himself as honest and unbiased.

He’s seen the evidence, he knows trump committed federal crimes, he knows it’ll all come out in the end (which is topical in light of the Cohen debacle), and he wants to be on the right side of it so he can get a gig in the judicial branch.

None of that means Gowdy can be trusted – but it looks a hell of a lot like he’s betting on trump going down.

        • Alan Wilkinson

           /  May 31, 2018

Won’t be the first time he’s lost that bet, will it?

  8. Joe Bloggs

     /  May 30, 2018

More totally fake news from the totally fake NYTimes:

When they met, Mr. Trump was ready to talk — but not about the travel ban. His grievance was with Mr. Sessions: The president objected to his decision to recuse himself from the Russia investigation. Mr. Trump, who had told aides that he needed a loyalist overseeing the inquiry, berated Mr. Sessions and told him he should reverse his decision, an unusual and potentially inappropriate request.

    Mr. Sessions refused.

The confrontation, which has not been previously reported, is being investigated by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, as are the president’s public and private attacks on Mr. Sessions and efforts to get him to resign. Mr. Trump dwelled on the recusal for months, according to confidants and current and former administration officials who described his behavior toward the attorney general.

trump’s complaints about sessions not “protecting” him make even more sense now.

So now I guess we enter into another he said/he said Orwellian debate about fake sources that don’t exist, except they almost certainly do.
