  2. Over 1 billion views. Camila Cabello and Havana

  3. One of my favourite artists. Bit of a long intro but lovely arrangement and the lyrics resonate. What a voice too!

  4. Gezz. You might like Leon Bridges too.

I see Paihia got 125mm of rain in the last 24 hrs so I guess we were about the same in Russell. For sure the water tanks are full now.

I forgot to empty the rain gauge, so can only make a guess. It’s hosing down, and the birds; breakfast is still on the bench, I’m hoping that it can be a late lunch or even dinner. No bird’s out there standing with wings on its hips asking where the hell the breakfast is.

I did run out when the rain stopped and put the food out for my poor birds.

One poor sparrer was caught and blown by the wind earlier, which must have been terrifying. He regained control somehow (it’s amazing what you can do if you have to) and whizzed into the big pittosporum.

The orange bucket all the pooks like to drink from after their feeds is very popular. The sparrows and the blackbirds like to perch on it and drink from it too. I keep it clean from windblown dust & debris and top it up every couple of days.

Mine have a shallow china/earthenware bowl, the perfect thng, found in an opshop and costing $1. The antique Meakin dish that makes the ideal bath was in an opshop free section, but I would have bought it. What a comedown for it.

There’s an old enamel saucepan on one of the steps (one of those cream and green ones) and it must give the water a special flavour, A visiting dog used to drink so much that he must have been piddling all the way home. The lizards have one of those two section petfood dishes with a stone to help them climb up to it.

Take it from me, sparrows are masters of the air. They can hover outside my window in a gale. They can fly up into and along a six inch gap when it’s only open that far. They can fly into the empty space between the slats in my trellis and perch there – when they only just fit inside. They can flit around inside the trees among the leaves and branches. Their flying skill amazes me. I’ve never seen it up close before like I have lately.

This one was only out of control for a short time, and he really was being blown away. But he must have kept his cool,

Whoops – I reused one clip under the kitchen window twice accidentally. I’ll update the movie with the 2nd correct under window clip. The corrected movie will still show here later. (Takes a bit of time & effort: gotta make a .wmv movie with windows movie maker, which is a big file size, then go online to convert it to a smaller mp4 movie, add captions and resize it down to make the 2mp camera images a bit sharper.)
