Housing NZ has wiped clean its blacklist of tenants banned from state housing on the basis of a dodgy meth testing regime.

/ 6th June 2018The main thing I learned from the interview is that Guyon Espiner has bestowed a new meaning on the words “taking responsibility.”
To him ‘taking responsibility’ means ‘losing one’s job.’

/ 6th June 2018I listened to the interview
Felt somewhat sorry for the man fronting over something he had no control over.
Most of the debacle happened before he was in charge. The blame needs to placed at the feet of the National party and the Conservative minsters that used this to attack drug users.

/ 6th June 2018And I second that, and some people here miss the bad old days when NZ was being ruined by National

/ 6th June 2018You can’t be serious. So much for accountability-this man vowed to never give a media interview. He is on 46k a month and his answers were not convincing. He came to HNZ after involvement in a billion dollar blowout at…council.Needs the…bullet.

NOEL
/ 6th June 2018On the plus side there should be no taxpayer compensation to those evicted for breaching their tenancy agreement.
NOEL
/ 6th June 2018Ok you down ticker I concede. Lets allow any taxpayer funded dwelling to be legally used to store stolen goods.

/ 6th June 2018A straw man is a common form of argument and is an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent’s argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not presented by that opponent. One who engages in this fallacy is said to be “attacking a straw man.”

/ 6th June 2018Fair dues there NOEL. If National were still running the show the downtickers would be saying what you said. No doubts here.

/ 6th June 2018I heard a lady on Tv1, jumping up & down saying ‘These druggies broke the law & deserve nothing’ (paraphrased) to which Garner replied ‘how do you know it was not a previous occupants use (not tested) or a visitor (not the renter)..’
I think its time all the fear-mongering around ‘DRUGS’ was put aside for actual facts… now we have a Govt. who have at least one foot in reality (on drug policy)
High Flying Duck
/ 6th June 2018No-one asked him where the testing standards came from in the first place – that seems to be the mystery.
Bridges and Bennett both say they relied on the advice from Housing NZ and other agencies who were adamant the testing regime was best practice.
This was the chance to confirm this or not.

/ 6th June 2018stand in a circle and point the blame at the person next to you…National protocol 101.
Griff
/ 6th June 2018Head of standards getting interviewed on live.
Shes trying to avoid the fact that allowing industry to drive standards supports capture of legislation by special interest groups .
Like the P testing industry helping to decide the level of contamination allowable.
We witness the same when standards allowed untreated wood framing driven by fetchers et al looking at their profits not what is best for the rest of us.

/ 6th June 2018I’ve got to agree with you here, Griff. Appalling lack of standards in this bureaucracy.

/ 6th June 2018More buck passing ?
If in doubt.. it stops with the, then minister/Govt.. responsible for their total zero-tolerance approach/rhetoric on DRUGS.. (meanwhile likely sipping on a chardonay ?)
Gezza
/ 6th June 2018Every new administration has to get rid of some departmental head to scare the shit out of the others & bring them smartly into line. Will McKenzie be the one? 🤔
Gezza
/ 6th June 2018If Andrew McKenzie now says on 1ewes at 6 that HCNZ in future won’t be evicting tenants for “drug use or other illegal behaviour” because “that’s not helping them” – why was it that, when National was in government, he didn’t give a shit and that didn’t matter?
I didn’t hear any reporter ask him that, unfortunately. 😕

/ 6th June 2018Tangent; I once saw a man on television who had been taking meth, and was not at all the way that I expected someone high on it to be like. He was just cheerful and laughing, not manic and hyperactive as I imagined.
