Newsroom shooting in Maryland, USA

Another shooting in the US with reports of multiple being shot in the Capital Gazette, an Annapolis, Maryland newspaper office .

Fox News: ‘Multiple’ deaths, suspect caught after reports of shots fired outside Maryland newspaper office, sheriff says

A suspect was apprehended following reports of shots fired and multiple fatalities in Annapolis, Maryland, Thursday afternoon outside the Capital Gazette newsroom, Anne Arundel Sheriff Ron Bateman told Fox News.

The Baltimore Sun, which owns the Annapolis newspaper, says a reporter told them of the shooting.

This story is just unfolding.

This from two days ago may or may not be related: Milo Yiannopoulos Jokes of Death Squads Murdering Journalists

With his career now in decline, he’s taken to continuing with his inflammatory comments, including hoping for violence against any news outlet that bothers to call him.

“I can’t wait for the vigilante squads to start gunning journalists down on sight,”.

Just maybe the reporter in question ( Yiannopoulos ) can see into the future.
After all the violence from the left the rest of the US will retaliate.
    Sadly

George, please cite a few examples of “all the violence from the Left”?

Probably not related but Yiannopoulos is a loudmouthed tosser nobody bothers with any more once it became blindingly obvious that’s all he is.

trump, Feb 2017: Media is “the enemy of the American people” & “a great danger to our country.”

trump fifteen days ago: Media is the nation’s “biggest enemy.”

yiannopoulos two days ago: “I can’t wait for the vigilante squads to start gunning journalists down.”

Today in Annapolis journalists are gunned down. At lkeast five fatalities and several more “gravely injured”

Of course the frothy right’ll claim that trump and yiannopoulos were joking, and the knucklehead-in-chief will offer thoughts and prayers (as if thoughts and prayers will stop gun violence) – meanwhile the scum demand ‘civility’ from those opposing their fascist hate-speech and behaviours … fuck civility…. own your own behaviour.

Do we know yet who this shooter is & why he did it?
I mean, in the US, mad bastard active shooters are now just part of the American Way & I dunno if there’s any reason yet to suspect he was motivated by anything other than being a nutter with a gun.

comments about mad bastard active shooters, or thoughts and prayers are absolutely meaningless when trump and the GOP refuse to support any type of gun control policy whatsoever and kowtow to the NRA.

Our gun control laws are shockingly lax here. We just have fewer mad bastards.

All I’ve seen so far is that he had a shotgun. Knowing the US I doubt it’s a good ol’ trusty twin barrel duck shooter’s musket like here & was probably a pump action military style job that’s all but capable of blowing a hole in a tank.

And I’m not convinced that there’s any great will in Congress among the majority of either the Dems or the GOP to do anything serious about gun control. The NRA has too many of them all bought. Plus there are just too many gun lovers & people scared of gun owners. The US is awash with guns cos 2nd Amendment. The best anyone can ever hope for there is to fiddle at the margins.

He was a nutter with a grudge against the paper after they wrote about a harrassment charge his ex brought against him.
Trying to make this a political point against Trump requires contortions beyond your capabilities.

Frankly I don’t give a fat rat’s arse for your contortions. Get over it.

Mental health issues, guns, a president who constantly condones and promotes violence, a fascist trumpet who advocates “gunning journalists down” – your support speaks volumes.

There were over 30 mass shootings during Obama’s presidency.
I’m not supporting anything, just pointing out that blaming Trump for this shooting is idiotic.

154 mass shootings so far this year (mass shooting – four or more killed or wounded) so far this year.

In May, there had been 23 school shootings in 21 weeks.

    Slow news day?
This is like a traffic accident in the US. Too much sensationalism in the media, it ensures copy-cat acts.
How about they and we put these episodes on page 57 of the newspaper and not page 1. It’s their country: they choose their laws and mores.

Very few papers nowadays (even tabloids) don’t get anywhere near 57 pages.

I don’t think that is the main problem: the problem is that the media control the message.

Essentially, the entire Norwegian political class (aided by the news media) came together to mount an effective political boycott of the Progress Party.

The only problem with this strategy of exclusion was that the Progress Party was not simply an anti-immigration party. In Norway’s still very strong social-democratic political culture the Progress Party stood out as the only mass political movement whole-heartedly committed to introducing the policies of “free market” neo-liberalism.

By bringing together rural and provincial Norwegians antagonistic to the influx of non-white, non-Christian immigrants, with the growing number of young, urban-dwelling Norwegians chafing under the benign collectivism of Norway’s social-democratic institutions, the Progress Party had grown rapidly to become Norway’s second-largest political party after Labour.

The result has given rise to what writer and social-critic, Dr Chris Harris, has aptly described as a “civil cold war or cold civil war” in which upwards of one quarter of the population found its political beliefs and aspirations deliberately excluded from government.

    We the Media
The complaints about Te Reo being used in mainstream media give me great heart looking to the future. This positive response might surprise some, but I believe we can view these people (and they’re always the same people) as the rearguard of progress. As society shifts, they will continue to yap at our heels and protest, but the trend for Aotearoa is against bland mono-culturalism and fearful mono-lingualism.  A decade ago it was Māori Television. Today, it’s using Te Reo on Morning Report and Breakfast TV and putting macrons in newspapers. In ten years time these things will be completely normal and there will be another battle, which the rearguard will again resist and lose.

This on top of, another cop shooting a motorist.. who reportedly ‘tried to run’. The cop had only been sworn in hours before & was released on bail, pending possible charges !

& mrT reckons hes ‘making America great Again’.. at what? highest shooting stats (or is Duterte/Philippines, setting the pace now ?)

Im glad that our frontline cops are not all armed. :/

The US does quite badly at the murder rate globally. In the Americas it’s bottom of the table alongside Canada.
