Who would have ever imagined a cub journalist arguing against free speech in a newspaper of all places. His thinking seems to be that anybody who has different beliefs or thoughts should shut up because they are racist, transphobic or old and white. If that is what is being taught in journalism school we probably need better lecturers.

Classic case of a “safe spaces” gen Xer with stuff-all life experience, no knowledge of history or what free speech or freedom of expression actually is – &, I will suggest – hasn’t listened to or watched much, if anything, of what Molyneux or Southern have to say.

Ok, maybe he’s watched a little bit of Southern because she’s gorgeous. Blonde, blue-eyed, fair skinned – classic Nazi Aryan maiden archetype (which mentally puts her into that classification for some people, I expect) – leggy, feisty, loud, provocative.

We have no idea what they wanted to talk about. None of us, including Glenn here.

Seems ageist, intolerant, easily-led. Good to see Comments are enabled. Hope he gets some rational rebuttals & not just airhead comments from far-right nutjobs.

That quote about Hitler has been spun. Like poetry there is room for interpretation. As usually Don goes on half-cocked. Espiner suggests it is racist to say that there are racial differences (he clearly believes it). It is looking that way as they examine the human genome.

There are certainly visible racial differences but what’s clear as they examine the human genome is they are actually caused by a small number of eceedingly tiny dna sequence variations in genes that have absolutely nothing to do with, & no impact on the human brain & how it works. Genome sequencing & research have entirely debunked the hoary old ‘race science’ studies that consistently tried to link race to IQ. An idea that is gaining some currency again among those with low IQ & racist attitudes.

Someone should ask Glen what he would say if the editor said we wont print that because your opinion piece is offensive to vast swathes of the population so we are suppressing it.
I dont know much about the two Canadians and not really that interested but I do hope we dont import the US/UK campus nonsense where millennials have to hide away when they hear a different opinion.

Guyon Espiner’s interview with Don Brash for the Free Speech coalition shows how backward RNZ is. There is plenty of evidence that separate human populations under different environmental pressures evolved different traits. Charles Murray hasn’t been “debunked” . The truth isn’t racist the truth is the truth. Also Lauren Southerns statement that Hitler was “just another social justice warrior who [ ]” was a rhetorical statement. Only a disingenuous journalist would use that as evidence that she is an apologist for Hitler. espiner’s interview demonstrates why we need speakers like Molyneaux and Southern.

His surname is Molyneux. You need to pay more attention.

He said that; he doesn’t believe it. He’s reading a script concentrating not necessarily concentrating on the meaning. I’m picking that is entirely plausible. You would need a social scientist to prove it.

I see on AlJz that MrT is intending to unite the Labour & Health Depts & privatise the postal service.. why not just do as he really wants.. privaitise everything inc. POTUS. Then the ‘billionaires club’ can bid/buy it, on an ongoing basis !

    Espiner
She’s described Hitler as “just a social justice warrior whose happened to get freaky amounts of power”. I mean does that disturb you?

    Don Brash
Absolutely, I mean Hitler was the most nasty objectionable person. I’m not defending this guys views at all, as I said earlier, I’m defending the right for him to express those views

    Espiner
    This is a young woman

    Brash
    Ok

    Espiner
From Stephan Molyneaux who is the partner in this (I’m looking at a March 18 piece in the Guardian by David Evans , if anyone wants to google it). He is advocating this alt right view of scientific racism in it he argues that social outcomes are the result of different inate IQ’s among races (high IQ Jews and low IQ black people). Now is that not the very definition of racism, he’s argued that intelligence is linked to race and some races are more intelligent than others?

    Brash
Well there are some people who think that. I don’t think that. I’ve never argued that for one single moment. But I think we’re talkinh here not about his particular views but not defending those views. I’m defending the right of free speech. That’s the important issue.

    Espiner
O.k so would you agree that those views are racist?

    Brash. Ahh I do.

    Espiner
You are supporting his right to make racist views in New Zealand?

    Brash
    Ahh Yes.

    Espiner
O.k I’m putting it to you that that is probably unlawful under the human rights act. It could be contestible but that’s 61 (check it out for yourself)

    A. What does this tell us about Southern’s view of Hitler. If you were there when she said it you would want to follow it up. I haven’t heard anything about Southern being a Nazi?

    B. As Don says “Well there are some people who think that” (Race and IQ). Jordan peterson for one. No one need apologise because the evidence is there to see. . Guyon wants to keep the lid on that one.?

A bit rich of Guyon to site Section 16 of the Human Rights Act when he says: “you’ve got to keep pushing the uglies” with his unwelcome long speels of te reo.

Well more detailed studies, & the psychological researchers consensus, is that it’s wrong, & Jordan Peterson is usually very careful to talk about what psychological studies (not ‘scientific’) data actually show, and what it doesn’t.

Can you link me to anything that shows Peterson agrees sound studies show IQ is determined by race? I have watched quite a bit of his material on the web now, & I’ve never seen him agree with that.

    On Adolf Hitler:
On top of being a whiny art student who scapegoated an allegedly ‘privileged’ race for all his problems, and talked a bunch of violent angry people into siding with him, like any good Social Justice Warrior, Hitler also wished he was a Muslim.
He might’ve been a nationalist by technicality, but he was more in the New Black Panthers style of “nationalist’ than the Trump style. Frankly, I think today, he’d be one of those low-T Tumblr crazies who join ISIS and end up on the news.
Everyone likes to complain about Hitler and Mussolini, but everyone forgets that without nationalism, we wouldn’t have a Germany or an Italy to get mad at for Hitler and Mussolini. Without nationalism, we’d probably still be at war with the freaking Habsburg (sic) Empire. Nationalism is what builds societies, and yes, just like how millennials take self-esteem too far, folks like Hitler, Mussolini or Malik Shabazz take nationalism too far.
I’m not Hitler, figuratively or literally. As far as I’m concerned, Hitler was just a Social Justice Warrior who happened to get freaky amounts of power and actually implement his #KillAllJews (the predecessor to #KillAIIMen) worldview. Basically, if Hitler were writing today, he could’ve avoided all the verbiage in Mein Kampf and just complained about “Jew-splaining” on Tumblr and the message would be the same.
