Michel Barnier (the EU Brexit negotiator) has today said that the EU cannot accept May’s Brexit deal.

This leaves May in an awkward position at the moment.

She will either have to capitulate completely to the EU – thereby most likely losing the next election and almost definitely suffering a no confidence vote, or she will need to walk away thereby causing chaos in the Government and potentially breaking UK law (one of the Brexit laws passed states no hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, this may not happen if the UK walks away with no deal).

Meanwhile her charm offensive on the regions isn’t going well, Boris is weighing his options, and Conservative activists have started a petition for the 1922 committee to trigger a vote of no confidence in the PM.

I wondered why a vote wasn’t triggered earlier, but apparently Conservative Party rules mean a vote of no confidence in the leader can only be held when Parliament is sitting, and it was deemed to close to the summer recess with many MPs leaving early so many in the party are rumoured to have decided to wait until the Autumn.

Shit what a shambles. She’s starting to remind me of Neville Chamberlain. Appeasement hasn’t worked. Who will be the new Churchill?

Because the British and French Governments had given a guarantee to Poland on 31 March 1939, with the British prime minister Neville Chamberlain formally promising her ‘all support in the power’ of the Allies should she be attacked

@HFD,that doesn’t explain the ‘why’ at all!
Poland was not a british colony.

It’s a complete shambles. There are reports that the Conservatives are spending the summer recess to weigh up who they think has the best chance of beating May and eventually Corbyn.

From tariffs to billion dollar bailouts in the space of a couple of weeks – all at the expense of the American taxpayers.

Yet another failed policy from the trump administration.

The GOP impeachment of Rod Rosenstein has fallen flat on its face within 24 hours of its tabling. Hardly a surprise. The point of the GOP impeachment was not to get to the bottom of anything in particular, the whole point was to muddy the water, create confusion, and false equivalencies…

It is the most shortsighted, and I have to say stupid thing, I have heard in a long time.
    – Alan Dershowitz, Harvard Law Professor and hill for trump, on Fox News

The Repugs never had the fire power in the House to pass the impeachment, a point that I made to MaureenW weeks ago.

And the instigators know every well they don’t have a leg to stand on. Their impeachment doc includes no evidence whatsoever that Rosenstein committed acts of ‘high crimes or misdemeanours’. jim jordan for one would be better served getting his sauna stories straightened out.

Even that odious twunt sessions endorses Rosenstein’s integrity.

Pulitzer Prize-winning trump biographer David Cay Johnston on Thursday morning:
    – trump has been paying off women for the whole thirty years Johnson’s been covering him
    – “We know of documented cases where he got money from Russians. We know Donald Trump has been doing business with Russian gangsters for years”

    Mueller on trump:
    – now reviewing trump’s tweets for obstruction

    Cohen case:
    – trump org’s long time CFO Alan Weisselberg has been subpoenaed to testify in Cohen’s criminal trial (CFOs and lawyers know where the bodies are buried)

    The Emoluments charges:
    – Federal Court Judge Messitte rules that the emoluments lawsuit against trump must go ahead – seting the stage for potentially shutting down the trump International Hotel in D.C. as a violation of the government lease and an unconstitutional emolument.

So yesterday’s shit, was worse than Wednesday’s shit, which overshadowed Tuesday’s shit, which outshone Monday’s shit. trump and his administration are like the Olympics of shit news.

Looks like Mariia Butina, Russian spymistress and NRA mistress, might be about to sing like a canary…

Butina’s lawyer, Robert Driscoll, noted that she had offered to cooperate …Driscoll released a copy of a so-called proffer letter from the US attorney in South Dakota, spelling out the terms of Butina’s potential cooperation. The May 29 letter, first reported by the Rapid City Journal, states that Butina “may be willing to make a proffer of possible information and testimony regarding her knowledge of the illegal activities of others.”
