Oops, posted this in Friday’s media watch by mistake.

An interesting article on the smugness of the left and how it is destroying left politics.

Hmm. I dunno. Maybe it’s true of the UK, Missy. But in the US, it seems to me the smugness is on both the liberal & the conservative sides of the political divide. And from my perspective, if comments here are anything to go by, it’s the same in Nz.

I think you are onto something there G. I know in the UK many of the more traditional Labour supporters are feeling more and more alienated by labour and the perceived (or real) takeover by the liberal elite educated smug luvvies. One of the reasons it is believe Labour did better than expected at the previous General Election is because all of the Labour supporters who had gone to UKIP to force the EU referendum once again returned to their roots and voted Labour again on a promise that Labour would deliver Brexit, along with the young naive students who voted Labour believing (naively) that Labour would oppose Brexit.

Not sure labour would get the same support from the working class now.

Ludicrous conclusion by good old Giles who reeks of upper class privelege.
Corbyns Labour is an overdue return to some principles after Blair hi jacked the whole Party.

The Telegraph: “The truth about Jeremy Corbyn: not a spy but a fool who hates capitalism and the West “.

this Capitalism has a number of different hats these days.
It gets the credit for alot it does not deserve.
Capitalism has succeeded through military dominance ..thats the reality…interfering and exploiting nations with debt as a potent weapon is the cornerstone of western prosperity.

“Blair hi jacked the whole Party.”

How many elections have Labour won without Blair in the last 50 years?

    I read that a med-cannabis ‘startup company’ ; Helius.. are ‘singing the praises of Natl’ for introducing their ‘alternative bill’.. a few lines from PR;

‘Helius Therapeutics, the New Zealand-owned medicinal cannabis company,
commends Dr Shane Reti and the National Party for their medicinal
    cannabis bill.’

‘Speaking on behalf of Helius, Co-Founder Paul Manning says, “It is clear
that Shane Reti and his team have sought expert advice, applied industry
best practice and commercial rigour to implement a realistic, workable
approach to medicinal cannabis legislation in New Zealand.”

‘Helius believes the details set out in the National bill will provide
accessibility for patients seeking to improve their quality of life and
pave the way for a world-class, well-regulated medicinal cannabis industry.’

    * BUT the one thing they seem to either forget or ignore; this ‘Natl bill’ is a members bill & has not even been drawn yet.. could be years away !
    * the Govt. are saying they were willing to work colloberatively with Natl. to make further changes, in ‘committee stage’.. but they apparently are now refusing ? just PLAYING Politics/point scoring (IMHO) 😦
*If they really support med-use, why did they refuse to do anything in the last 9 years & why are they now doing this ??

    >maybe for 87% of support.. (recent poll) :/
