  1. A dear little waxeye flew in this morning. She was trying to go out through a closed window when I found her, rather than going back to the open one. Of course she had to go down behind the milkbottles in their wire basket . The dog didn’t help by barking his silly head off, but the waxeye was eventually caught in the purple net and returned to the garden. She didn’t seem to be at all afraid of me and was quite calm as she was carried to the open window. That’s the third waxeye visit; they seem sociable little birds.

The $2 net that has caught mice, birds and lizards so that they can be released was $2 well spent.

I have fantails that come inside to visit .
They are happy as flying around inside the house They often sit on the sill of an open window looking out before doing another circuit .
Great thing about being so far from the road out in the country is I leave the house open all the time. It is almost one kilometer from the house down the drive along the private lane to the letterbox out on the public road.

Lived in town for eight years and knew only one person on the entire street. After less than a year here I have meet and know by name a dozen or so of the neighbors. We all watch our for each other and keep an eye out for people who do not belong here.

      • I have quite a lot of fantails, too, but the waxeyes greatly outnumber them. They have come inside occasionally and flown around. I have heard that they are bringing news of a death, but if they do, they do it gently. Not like the magpies who jeer at the bad news.

My door & windows are shut at the moment because the sky darkened and the temperature dropped. Then there was lightning with a clap of thunder almost at once, The dog barked and I don’t blame him, but I soon took his mind off it with a special thunderstorm game. I usually have the door open.

The loveliest bird experience I have had was when a fantail gave me a dress rehearsal of his courtship dance. He was so close that I could feel the breeze from his wings. Sheer magic. Then he flew away and came back with his sweetheart. They did a pas de deux. It was an aerial ballet, with me as the audience !

So what did you think of Jojo’s artwork?
She’s a bit upset you never said.

You showed it twice, once partly skinned and once totally skinned.

She said there’s STILL no uptick from you on the pic of her finished artwork – that she spent days working on – so she won’t be doing any more – & she’s flown away, crying. 😕

Better, thank goodness. I can smell the daphne on the windowsill. I did go to bed quite early with a box of aloe vera tissues and a selection of books…why can’t someone discover a cold vaccine ???

I’ll tell her in the morning. I thought it would show up in your WordPress replies list so you’d see it.

There have been no pook whanau tiffs today. I wonder if Pickles was copping it from his mum for being horrible to his little sister, out of my sight.

    Boxer dog 1
    Feral goat 0
I’ve had a tribe slowly moving onto the back paddock for a week or so. Today there was seven the most I have seen at once. I took dog up the back track until we could see them close told him they were piggy’s and sicced him on. Next time I will take a knife as breaking its neck to put it out of misery was too difficult.
Now I have goat to butcher. Hopefully now one has been killed the rest will keep away.

It is now two pigs one goat and untold possums and rabbits not destroying my bush because of the dogs hunting drive .
Down side is I cant have sheepies as he would probably be a “little mean” to them .

Dog is getting better with the steers he sat and let one lick him today. .There are three horses living in the bottom paddock as the neighbor run out of grass. I haven’t introduced dog to them yet as horses can be flighty when startled. One is really old so I dont want them spooked.
