Zimbabwe Election – Zanu PF announced yesterday as winner.

Oppostion protestors in the centre of Harare have rioted, They accuse Zanu-PF of rigging the results.

On live tv, a spkesman for the main opposition alliance is demanding the early release of the election results (possibly he means the returns?).

No justification for violence and use of force against oppostion protestors today, he says.

Zimbabwe President blames Opposition for post-election violence in Harare says the Opposition must remove its violent supporters from the streets – concurrent tv banner.

The police deployed tear gas & water cannon & called in the army against the protestors, who were throwing stones at them. Zimbabwean forces opened fire on protestors with live rounds. At least one man shot dead.

Opposition spokesman making speech facing is questions from reporters asking if it is acceptable for the protestors to be throwing stones at Zanu-PF headquarters & police & putting up burning barricades.

He is repeating that Zimbabwean citizens have the right of peaceful protest & that the government’s use of force against them has been disproportionate. The reporters are challenging how peaceful the protestors have been. He blames unspecified individuals deliberately causing violence.

Things seem to be going as well as could probably be expected an election in Africa.

Above impromptu media conference was a Breaking News item.

Aljazeera tv 6.00 am news just showed a short video clip of a few burning fires on the roads, and soldiers firing at a crowd of rioters, including firing up at tall buildings or their roof tops.

Police say that rioters were breaking car windows, blocking streets & transport. Police say they couldn’t handle the situation so called on the army at the height of the violence.

The soldiers have since returned to their barracks, & police are controlling the situation. Both sides seem to have stepped back from the brink & there is relative calm in Harare at the moment.

There was also a brief item earlier that the South African President had announced the givernment intends to proceed with plans to seize land from white farmers.
        … … …
And another that firefighters from New Zealand & Australia are expected to arrive in California shortly to assist US firefighters fighting their devastating wildfires.

          And re Zimbabwe:

          * there are “reports of 3 dead” in Harare following the protests/riots
          * although the soldiers have returned to barracks, there are still armoured vehicles on the streets

Yeah, there will be no sandwiches, there will be an avocado shortage (not sure why as they come predominantly from South America), Cheese will be non-existent, no planes will fly, the sky will fall in, and we will all starve….

      That is definitely project reality!!

Seriously the claims being made about a no-deal Brexit are so over the top. There could be some hardships and some issues, but when there are so many over the top claims people stop listening and the more realistic, toned down claims are dismissed along with the wild allegations.

Many making the claims have a vested interest in remaining in the EU, an example is from the other day. A guy representing the British Sandwich Association, (yes there is such a thing), claimed that there would be no more sandwiches in a no-deal Brexit, or at the best a severe shortage. It turns out he works for an Irish company that makes sandwiches, and the company’s CEO is the brother of the Foreign Minister of Ireland, who only last week was spreading doom and gloom stories about what a no-deal would look like. His motives for his claims are now (rightly) being questioned considering the vested interest in working for an Irish company that may be impacted post Brexit.

Today Tommy Robinson won his appeal on his contempt of court conviction. His conviction has been quashed, his sentence overturned, and he has been released on bail pending a re-trial. It appears from what I have seen to be on a technicality of process as opposed to anything fundamentally incorrect in law.

The Appeal Court judge ruled that the conviction was flawed.

This only applies to his second conviction on contempt of court, his first conviction on the same charge still stands.

    From the BBC:

“This morning, the Lord Chief Justice’s ruling in Robinson’s appeal underlined that the rule of law – the rules that apply to us all – must be applied fairly in all circumstances.
And that’s why the Court of Appeal ruled that Robinson’s second conviction in a year for contempt of court was flawed. In essence, the five hours from arrest to sentence at Leeds Crown Court was rushed.
Robinson wasn’t told what specific parts of his activity at the court had been potentially prejudicial to a jury – meaning nobody to this day knows exactly what he did wrong.
Further, he immediately removed the offending video from Facebook on the court’s order and the judge should have then adjourned the matter to give him longer to prepare a defence.
Tommy Robinson is still convicted of contempt in relation to his behaviour at Canterbury last year where he received his three month sentence for potentially derailing a fair trial.
Today, the Court of Appeal said that very same right to a fair hearing means Robinson should have a full opportunity to put his case without rushing to judge.”

Earlier today it was said that they believe the re-trial will most likely be in September – or later.

    believe it or not…

‘Chinese authorities are cracking down on the practice of hiring strippers as funeral entertainment, a technique some rural families use to
increase the turnout at a loved one’s final farewell.

The country’s Ministry of Culture said late last month it would be targeting “striptease” and other “obscene, pornographic and vulgar performances”
at funerals and other gatherings across Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Hebei provinces.

It has urged witnesses to call a special hotline to report any performances, with rewards on offer for informants, according to the
    state-run Global Times newspaper.

“The crowd is pushed to climax, roaring with laughter, whistling, applauding and cursing,” state media said.
“As the performers saunter into the audience to jiggle their breasts and rub men’s crotches, a reminder of ‘no photographs allowed’ can
    occasionally be heard.”

Hiring entertainment for funerals is a longstanding practice in rural China, as ensuring a high number of mourners attend the ceremony
is a way of showing respect to the dead, the Global Times reported.

“Chinese rural households are more inclined to show off their disposable incomes by paying out several times their annual income for
actors, singers, comedians, and — most recently, strippers — to comfort the bereaved and entertain the mourners,” state media said.

Strippers are also sometimes hired for weddings and temple fairs.

Aljaz tv is reporting that the White House (via Sarah Sanders) has announced sanctions have just been imposed against the Turkish Interior & Justice Ministers for refusing to release an American pastor who has been in custody after being arrested in 2016 & accused of being a spy and having links to the coup plotters.

This follows both Trump & Pence (a notorious deluded Christian fundamentalist) threatening severe consequences in recent weeks if Turkey does not comply with their demands to release him.

Richard Painter, Republican and former chief ethics counsel in Dubya’s administration on how BLOTUS trump is giving Mueller the evidence that he needs to build the case that trump has an ongoing pattern of obstructing justice… “Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt”

    • Alan Wilkinson

       /  August 2, 2018

Of course it’s a rigged witch hunt. That’s exactly why you support it.

        Your prejudices are showing again.

      • Joe Bloggs

         /  August 2, 2018

Just to be perfectly clear honey, because clearly you missed the tip-off, the individual in the video I posted isn’t me.

It’s Dubya’s ethics czar and lifelong Republican Richard Painter… severely criticising trump…

        “…posting incriminating tweets”

        “…evidence of obstruction of justice”

        “… incriminating himself on Twitter”

        “…very incriminating tweet.”

        “…pattern of obstruction of justice”

“…evidence of obstruction inside the White House

“…clear evidence of obstruction of justice”

“…This is and has been evidence of obstruction of justice”

Repetitive little sucker is Richard Painter, but perhaps with this very borrring repetitiveness (kinda like witch hunt, witch hunt, witch hunt, … but benghazi…. you get the drift) you might grok trump’s patterns of obstruction of justice.

        • Alan Wilkinson

           /  August 2, 2018

Apart from both being repetitive little Trump hating suckers I can’t imagine why on earth you should think I would confuse the two of you or bother to watch your video.

And Trump isn’t obstructing justice by labelling a politically rigged witch hunt correctly.

ah but trumpy IS obstructing the lawful function of Mueller’s investigation by demanding that Sessions should stop the investigation

Next you’ll be trying to tell us that collusion isn’t a crime, but that doesn’t matter because there was no collusion… but Hillary…lock her up… but collusion is not a crime…

            newsflash honey… collusion is spelled C.R.I.M.I.N.A.L. C.O.N.S.P.I.R.A.C.Y.

18 USC §371 CONFRAUDUS which includes those wonderful words “impairing, obstructing or defeating the lawful function of any department of government”

trump supporters are just the best people…

the irony is that the crowd at this rally has a lot more in common with Jim Acosta than with trump. Acosta’s dad was a Cuban refugee, he went to public schools, a public university, the’s middle class from top to bottom. Compared with trump’s inherited wealth, private schools, and 5th Avenue gold-plated toilet, Acosta is actually one of their own.

The press is not the enemy

Of course it is. It lives and breathes to take Trump down every day. Like you.

      • Joe Bloggs

         /  August 2, 2018

Funny how you claim the press is the enemy yet post links to their articles whenever they print news you think favours trump. IIRC that’s just a tad hypocritical.

And trust me honey, I live and breathe every day for the love of life. trump’s just a swamp I’m helping to drain on the way through.

             /  August 2, 2018

now you’re just being a silly little boy with your self-contradictory claims:

“The press is not the enemy. Of course it is. It lives and breathes to take Trump down every day.”
            &
“Rubbish. Of course not all journalists are Trump-hating lunatics.”

not only on the same day but in the same thread.
