Another terrible onslaught on ‘the free market’ and our sacred “property rights”, this time by local government Auckland –

‘Airbnb and Bookabach owners get rates rises of up to 225 per cent as bed tax bites’ – NZHeraldo …

“The council estimates that there are 8000 Auckland properties listed on Airbnb alone, and that the tax will apply to around 3800 of them.

The bed tax is based on the value of the property, its location, and the number of bed nights it was booked for in the last year. It applies to homes and self-contained units but not single rooms in a larger home or properties which are rented out fewer than 28 days a year.”

So its an incomprehensible, selective ‘bed tax’ with plenty of wriggle-room on a number of fronts … not least reliant upon the owner’s declaration … unless someone’s gonna actually monitor the bookings and completions of every accommodation ‘unit’ on those websites?

Maybe a few houses will go back on the rental property market and some even be sold to owner occupiers … if there’s any potential buyers left who can afford them?

The ‘work’ of Lefty government … attempting to rationalize and repair the selective cronyism and pork barrel spendthriftness of Rightie governments …

8000 Auckland housing units unavailable for ‘housing’ …!!! And no consequences …

Meantime homeless people are ‘housed’ temporarily in motels and hotels designed for the tourists and visitors … under National …

    Lost Time With Corky.

I had an acquaintance turn up on my doorstep this morning asking if I had a spare computer.
I felt like answering sarcastically that I had a few around the place…they are cheap as chips. He said his near new desk top had been hacked by a hacker who overclocked the CPU thus causing it burn out. I said he was being ripped off and spent 30 minutes telling him how to lodge a small claims case.

I see poor Kitty is still prattling on about crossbows. I said they were banned or regulated to allow the ruling class to keep their status.

Kitty has this to say about my comments :

”Like so many people of that ilk, he can give it out but not take it (or whatever the saying is) How dare anyone challenge his bigotry and ignorance ? It’s waste of time, anyway; look at his pigheaded denial of the truth about recycling soft plastics, and the history and use of crossbows.’

Now compare that ignorance with this:

”Crossbows weren’t just weapons that could quickly win battles, to the ruling class they were a great equalizer in an era in which equality was a dirty word. Accordingly, Pope Urban II banned the use of crossbows in 1096; a prohibition that was upheld by Pope Innocent II in 1139.”

I won’t waste my time arguing about plastic recycling. I’m really a big softie at heart. I believe in allowing people to save face.

Good to see Duncan Garner has picked up on my suggestion of a TV debate with Ms Southern and Mr Molyneux. It isn’t too late for the Sunday programme to change their upcoming feature about free speech. This is more important given Paul Moon believes Southern and Molyneux configure facts to suit their worldview. To me, facts are facts. They are either right or wrong. They can’t be configured to suit your worldview. Half truths and opinions can…and a live debate will show these two up if they trade on bluster and not facts.

”It’s OK to be white tshirt.”

Smacks of symbolism. I had a debate with Kitty about symbolism ( words are just symbols) Couldn’t get a word in edge ways. She’s also an expert on symbolism.

There’s an interesting mind exercise that is very disconcerting where you disconnect your brain from word associations and their meaning. You are left floundering as you find yourself in a world of symbolism with no meaning.

”It’s OK to be white tshirt.”

A great slogan. A truthful slogan.

Remember this women teaching black kids in the 60’s ? Her slogan:

    BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL.
    BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL.
    BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL.

    • More conceited rubbish from this conceited person, putting words in other people’s mouths and thinking himself very clever for doing so.

YNZ is becoming increasingly dominated by Corky, which is a real shame. His ignorance and abuse are predictable and becoming more and more tedious and boring. He will kill YNZ unless he’s checked. I notice that quite a few people who have been here for a long time are not here now. It was great when he was banned and people could post without him hogging the forum and abusing those who disagreed with or knew better than him.

      • Corky

         /  August 3, 2018

”YNZ is becoming increasingly dominated by Corky,”

Tell you what, to make you feel better I will take a break. No posting for a while from tommorrow. That way you can get together and pat people who agree with you on the back.

‘I notice that quite a few people who have been here for a long time are not here now. ”

You mean ‘identities’ that are not here now, but seem to miraculously rotate in a never ending loop.

”It was great when he was banned and people could post without him hogging the forum and abusing those who disagreed with or knew better than him.”

If you look at this forum, many threads I do not comment in. Not one comment. Others I maybe post one or two comments. In fact, I don’t feature in many of the debates that happen on this blog.

You get taken to task because you insist on inane replies to my posts. Really stupid stuff the on occasions beggars belief.

           /  August 3, 2018

Personal abuse again as a response to reasoned criticism, a typical reaction. To you, anyone who disagrees with you, no matter how well informed they are, must be be stupid, the last resort of those who can’t stand it that they have been proved wrong by those who know better than they do.

One or two comments ? One OF two is more like it, especially recently.

No, I do not mean ‘identities’, It’s not a word I use; it’s meaningless.

Thank goodness you have got the message and will be absent for a while. Please do not hurry back. Your personal abuse as a substitute for reasoned debate will not be missed.

If you could have a discussion without insults and downright lies (as many of the things you have said about or attributed to me are) it would be a great improvement.

I read the article, didn’t watch him talking. As Corky says, Mikey nails it.

Nailed the fact that when it comes to in-depth analysis of educational and schooling issues he has his own experience as a pupil and more lately as a parent to call on.

I wonder what stream he ended up in at school, what subjects he did and how well he achieved. And at university.

He has it that the one over-arching problem with schooling, is our inability to do something and stick with it. That’s called a changing world Mike. That’s called people bitching about schools not keeping up-to-date and changing to meet the needs of a dramatically changing world.

His experience has it that those who end up in ‘soft’ classes like photography are lightweights looking for an easy ride and which ultimately won’t serve them well. For a person with some reach and who is apparently pretty well-heeled, he is a short sighted, narrow-minded pleb. No surprise that the ‘it’ that Mikey nailed was himself, as profoundly simple.

    BREAKING
Cancelled: Alt-right activists Stefan Molyneux and Lauren Southern in limbo after venue backs out of hosting event

An Auckland venue has cancelled tonight’s speaking event involving a pair of controversial Canadian alt-right activists. Powerstation owner Peter Campbell told Newshub he had cancelled the speaking event with Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux.

Caolan Robertson, an agent for Southern, told Newshub that “powerful forces” were opposed to the event.

            Ok, 1ewes said:

the Powerstation cancelled when they finally heard what Southern & Molyneux were going to say AND for saftey reasons when they were told protestors were gong to descend on the venue

The couple has said they now will not speak anywhere in New Zealand

Molyneux was shown looking at the camera darkly & blaming political interference (but he’s been developing a real conspiracist angle as part of his schtick, looking to widen his income stream, I think), a dodgy character.

Asked what they had to say when the reporter interviewed them, he advised they seemed extremely ill-informed about multi-culturalism & biculturalism in NZ, were basically saying multi-culturalism doesn’t work, and that Southern had said the only reason Maori culture has survived is because European culture is so tolerant – which doesn’t actually make sense if multiculturalism doesn’t work.

An extended item – no doubt showing segments of the reporter’s sit down with the psir – will feature on Miriama Kamo’s liteweight polemical female-friendly Sunday program.

A large number of protestors were shown first, assembled in Aotea Square, celebrating the decision, including Marama Davidson, & she and an odd-looking collection of females & one gender indterminate person with sloppy dress sense were shown saying things along the lines of woohoo – we don’t want fascista here, there’s no room for racist speech in NZ & we aren’t putting up with this scientific racism rubbish.

    – 212 is boiling point.(100C)
    – 190 is 88
    – 180 is 82
    – 170 is 77

The first computer program I ever wrote, when at school in 1972 (we punched cards and they were sent to Databank and returned a week later with the printed output if there were no mistakes), was a Fahrenheit to Celsius conversion chart.

“The use of 1080 as predator and pest control has been in place in New Zealand for over 60 years. Yet the problem of predators and pests has not diminished.

The very chemical that should have handled the problem over the years does not seem to be effective, yet it is still used widely throughout the country. 1080 is spread by aerial application. It is dumped into an area by helicopter. The chemical is indiscriminate, and it affects everything it touches. Any animal that consumes it dies a slow, painful death”.

Unless Shane’s gonna use Press Gangs (like the olde British Navy did to kidnap young fullas off the streets & force them to be deck hands on their frigates) – or sanctions – to get his nephs off the couch & into the ngahere.

Yes, lets put idle young people to work. It makes perfect sense. A noble sentiment possum. Have you been to rangitoto island in the last 15 years?

No Conspiratoor … never been there, looked at its beauty many times on my travels thru Auckland tho. I was going over once with doc to trap but missed out thru a family death.
I was under the impression that DOC set up a 2-year trapping schedule after the drop.
Rangitoto became pest free in 2011.
The last thing I heard there was an abandoned cat there,
lost at sea and castaway for a while. 1 hungry cat can kill many eggs birds.
I have been in the bush after a 1080 drop it is Silent.
