A quick summary of this morning’s terrorist incident.

At approximately 0737 a vehicle ran into a group of cyclists and pedestrians then into one of the security barriers at the Palace of Wesminster.

The act appeared deliberate in nature, and based on this and the location the police are treating it as a terrorist incident. No other suspects were at the scene and the police are currently not looking for anyone else.

3 Cyclists were injured, one was treated at the scene, two were taken to hospital where one has since been discharged, a woman remains in hospital with serious, but not life threatening or life changing, injuries.

A man in his 20’s was arrested at the scene and taken to a police station in South London, his identity is yet to be confirmed but it is believed, on information available, he was unknown to MI-5 and Counter Terrorism Police. Witness photos and footage show a man that appears to be North African, possibly Somalian or Gambian, being arrested. The suspect is not cooperating with the police.

A cordon remains in place around Westminster with a number of roads closed, including Whitehall and Westminster Bridge. Westminster Tube station remains closed to entry and exit but is open for interchange.

A COBRA meeting is due to be held in about 15 mins (1400 local time). It is not known if the meeting will be Ministerial or Official led, or if any Ministers will be in attendance or just receive a briefing. (FYI: COBRA stands for Cabinet Office Briefing Room A – which is apparently the secure briefing room).

On the COBRA meeting, it is Ministerial led with the PM chairing the meeting. COBRA meeting is still happening.

The media are reporting the suspect is expected to be from the Birmingham area.

The wider cordon has now been lifted (1600 BST) and a smaller cordon remains in place around Westminster.

Westminster station has also re-opened fully.

Media are reporting this evening that security sources have revealed the suspect from this morning’s attack was known to police, but not MI-5 or Counter Terrorism police. This could be anything from minor driving offences to more serious crimes.

It has also been reported that police have raided a house in Nottingham in Connection with today’s attack.

Love to know who the plonker is who’s downticking all these posts.
In need of a serious head-reading, imo.

True. Whoever it is really needs to get a life, and focus on something a little more positive.

Though to be fair we should probably feel sorry for him/her as whoever he/she is, is obviously a very angry and unhappy person with no joy in their life.

Haven’t been to bed yet. Been up all night, making a long private nature movie for Possum’s mokopuna. Quite complicated _ using various programs that needed a lot of trial and error.

Ma will earbash me no end, if she finds out. Don’t tell her! 😎

Since his election as leader Jeremy Corbyn has been dogged by rumours, innuendo, and discussion of his connections to a number of terrorist groups, including IRA, Hamas, and Hezbollah.

Alongside this he has also been fighting of accusations of anti-Semitism, this has been something that has gone through peaks and flows, however, it appears to be coming to a head (or not as he seems to somehow survive no matter what).

During the election campaign last year Corbyn was accused of attending a memorial service in 2014 for the terrorists from the Black September group that organised and carried out the massacre of the Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

That was denied at the time by Corbyn and he advised that he had attended a Peace Conference in Tunis and whilst there attended a service for the victims of an air attack that took place on the headquarters of the Palestinian organisations in Tunis.

After photos emerged at the weekend of Corbyn with a wreath near the graves of the Black September terrorists a Corbyn source said that the Labour leader was at a Palestinian commemoration for those killed in the bombing in Tunis. This explanation was maintained despite the journalists having taken their own current photos showing that the memorial for the Tunis bombing was a distance from where Corbyn was pictured, and a photo of the wreath Corbyn held on the grave of the leader of the Black September group.

Yesterday (Monday) Corbyn said that a wreath was laid by some who attended the conference to some who were killed in Paris in 1992 (the terrorists who carried out the Munich attack). He went on to say he was present when it was laid but didn’t think he was actually involved in it, despite photographs showing him holding the wreath and partaking in the prayers. He continued that he was there because he wanted to see a fitting memorial to everyone who has died in every terrorist incident.

Corbyn is refusing to apologise for attending the wreath laying ceremony despite calls from MPs, Jewish Leaders, and even the Israeli PM.

Corbyn’s credibility with all but his most sycophantic supporters is being eroded on a daily basis. As well as the photos emerging at the weekend an article published by the Stop the War coalition has also emerged in which it is claimed the Palestinian terrorists did not intend to kill the Israeli athletes in 1972, and that they were killed accidentally. At the time the article was published in 2014 Jeremy Corbyn was the head of the Stop the War Coalition.

I briefly mentioned Corbyn’s supporters, it has been interesting watching them on twitter over the last day or two, they have been adopting the language and intransigence of a Trump supporter labelling everything as fake news and lies, many have gone so far as to claim the photos are faked.

Slight correction to what I have said above. The graves in the Tunisian cemetery are of those who organised and masterminded the Munich attack, not carried it out. That is my error in writing from memory a lot of information I have heard and read on this.

I’m still trying to reconcile how the reporting pushed the narrative he was mocking the gay men and being violent and aggressive (with grainy inconclusive footage suggesting the same), whereas the gay men are interviewed by the press and they thank BS profusely for stepping in, say he stopped them being assaulted, was in good spirits and was nothing but supportive to them.

Today it was reported on the radio that this year the security services have foiled 30 terror attacks by Islamists, 4 attacks by far right groups, and there are currently 676 live investigations into terror activity.

Who are the far right groups and who are they targeting missy?

      • Missy

         /  August 15, 2018

They didn’t say. My instinct is that they were more likely individuals who identify with some far right ideology and most likely the targets would have been Muslims, and possibly some MPs.

I’m in the UK at the moment. Its noticeably tense in London… or maybe that’s me projecting and feeling anxious?

30 plots foiled is a high number it’s around 1 a week…for a supposed peace loving people Muslims seem to harbour a rather large rotten minority intent on mayhem…

I’m anticipating a big push back at sometime in the next few years … especially when the child grooming and taping gang trials get full and in depth coverage once the numerous trials are finished… I think the silent majority may just wake up when the extent of this mainly Pakistani gangs is revealed..

            Hey, welcome to London.

To be honest I think it is probably you projecting, but that is understandable. The first attack after I arrived made me feel that things were more tense and it felt to me the atmosphere was a little more tense, but looking back now I think it was a case of me projecting my own anxiousness and tension. It isn’t something we are used to in NZ, so when we are caught up in something like this – even on the periphery – our reactions are likely to be exaggerated.

I haven’t noticed any difference in atmosphere or feeling in the city today, and on my commute home no noticeable quietness or tension, I didn’t even notice an increase in police around, and after previous attacks there have usually been a few extra armed police about around Trafalgar Square, at stations etc. Though in saying that there will sometimes be armed police at some stations now and again, they do random patrols at different stations, so even if you do see one or two it is probably just the normal patrol.

In the next week or so police may do some more reassurance patrols, (common after an attack, or attempted attack), basically they go to high foot traffic areas hand out pamphlets with the anti-terrorism hotline number on it and talk to the public to ensure they aren’t feeling too anxious.

Thanks Pete, didn’t quite get to that one today, brief mentions on the news here, but beyond that not a lot of information, was waiting until I got home and could read to find out more than the one line of ‘motorway bridge in Italy collapses killing dozens’.

The current death toll is being reported at 35, though this isn’t official as the rescue operation is still ongoing.

Witnesses have reported that lightning struck the bridge just before the collapse, though Engineers say that it is unlikely that lightening caused the collapse, they say it is too early to determine the cause.

The Italian Interior Minister has promised anyone found to be responsible for the bridge collapse will be held to account. He has said he will do everything to get the names and surnames of the managers responsible, past and present.

trump’s propaganda channel is hardly a reliable source.

And overnight CBS has revealed that it has a new recording from Manigault-Newman in which WH staff appear to discuss trump’s use of the N-word and talk about how they mitigate the potential fallout…

President Trump says former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault-Newman lied when she called him a racist who has said the N-word on tape. The president tweeted Monday night, “I don’t have that word in my vocabulary and never have. She made it up.” But a new recording, obtained by CBS News overnight, seems to back up Omarosa’s story that several Trump advisers discussed an alleged tape during the 2016 campaign.

Trump campaign advisers denied on Monday that any conversations took place. CBS News has not been able to verify the authenticity of the recording – though it appears to confirm Omarosa’s claims that Trump campaign officials were aware of a tape in which then-candidate Trump uses a racial slur, and they talked about how to handle it.

        https://www.cbsnews.com/news/new-audio-omarosa-trump-campaign-aides-apparently-discussing-fallout-of-n-word/

The WH brown-nosers and their ilk can deny all they like, but it seems all they’re doing is compounding their own lies.

You just don’t get it Alan,

You described Manigault-Newman as “lying scum” but trump hired her – his own “crazed low-life” “dog” – and he kept her on staff because she said “great things” about him even though she was crap at her job.

So much for surrounding himself with “only with the best and most serious people” and “top-of-the-line professionals”. Or are you in denial about that too?

In any case, the whole sorry spectacle of two repugnant people eating each other in public is just a sideshow that diverts attention away from the criminal conduct of trump’s corrupt administration

Calling a woman a dog is a really sexist insult, and an immature one. An old man like Trump sounds very silly using this word. It means that she is extremely unattractive physically, which should have nothing to to do with anything. Trump is hardly such a handsome man that he can sneer at other people’s looks.
