    .
I’m pretty sure Jojo is Aspen’s daughter, not Bluey’s. She often stands on one leg for quite long periods of time like here this morning & only Aspen ever does that. Sweety, Bluey & Pickles, only briefly if at all. Jojo here stood on this one leg for about 15 minutes or so this morning.

She must have a wonderful sense of balance. I couldn’t do that. Not that I have ever tried….

I sometimes see pooks doing the flamingo act, but don’t know how long they do it for as I am never there long enough. 15 minutes is very impressive.

My poor birds haven’t been fed yet, as we have had that annoying, steady rain that is just stopping now. There is a treat of grapefruit for them; my thanks to the woman who told me that they like these.

Are you suggesting that Aspen and Sweety cuckolded Bluey and let him think that he was the father of this bouncing baby bird ???

I don’t think they worry about such matters to be honest. Sweety’s not always free with her favours and Aspen’s very gentlepookly when she says no, but she does succumb to both his charms and Bluey’s – just not together.

They’ve just finished an amorous period and the poor lass isn’t being pestered any more. I have seen where the new nest is. It’s downstream on the opposite bank, hidden in the blackberry. I just happened to see two of them surreptitiously doing a nesting shift change two days ago, heading down to feed Ella.

I can’t decide if all that puffing and blowing and chest beating means that he’s finding his cold bath extremely invigorating or is trying to get it over and done with.

        🙂

They like a daily wash in the water. So do the ducks. They may even do it more than once a day unless the stream’s in flood.

All the waterbirds groom daily & the pooks are especially particular about it. They groom themselves all over several times thru the day. It’s quite relaxing to just quietly watch one of them, or even a group of them, going thru their full grooming routine.

They seem to particularly enjoy a really thorough, methodical whole body feather-comb in the morning sun, after a wash. They love to stand in the sun on the stream bank or on my lawn with their wings stretched out when they’ve finished on sunny mornings or late afternoons when it’s warm.

I wonder if there are bumbags in their size; they could use those instead.
