The US military has made a final decision to cancel $300m in aid to Pakistan, the Pentagon says, citing Islamabad’s perceived failure to take decisive action against armed groups in the country.

The Coalition Support Funds were part of a broader suspension in aid to Pakistan announced by President Donald Trump at the start of the year, when he accused Pakistan of rewarding past assistance with “nothing but lies and deceit”. The Trump administration says Islamabad is granting safe haven to fighters who are waging a 17-year-old war in neighbouring Afghanistan, a charge Pakistan denies.

“Due to a lack of Pakistani decisive actions in support of the South Asia Strategy, the remaining $300m was reprogrammed,” Pentagon spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kone Faulkner said on Saturday.

Some analysts warn there may be no real way to pressure Islamabad and say a suspension in aid could see the US lose crucial influence over Pakistan which will instead look to other countries for support, particularly its longtime ally China. “The announcement is to put Pakistan under pressure. Pakistan is expected to give a very tough response and also take it up with Pompeo when he’s in Islamabad,” Mateen Haider, a defence and security analyst, told Al Jazeera.

“The cooperation between Islamabad and Beijing is also increasing rapidly, particularly in the field of defence and security. Pakistan is now buying most of its defence equipment from China instead of the US and that strategic partnership is upsetting Washington.”

Another bright-eyed no hoper picks up the chalice the US poisoned 17 years ago and still keep drinking from…

New US general takes over command of forces in Afghanistan
The handover comes after a time in the 17-year war that saw little progress by Afghan or US forces against the Taliban.

Army General Scott Miller has assumed command of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, arriving as Washington faces growing questions over its strategy to force the Taliban into talks to end the 17-year conflict.

Miller, the former commander of the US military’s Joint Special Operations Command, takes over at a time of mixed hope and fear for the Western-backed government in Kabul. “To be successful, we must continually learn and adapt to the enemy and the environment,” Miller said on Sunday at a change of command ceremony at the headquarters of the NATO-led Resolute Support mission in Kabul. “There is no room for status quo. We cannot afford to be complacent.”

The US is now a year into its strategy of stepping up pressure on the Taliban by increasing air raids and sending thousands more troops to train and advise Afghan forces, but clear signs of success have so far proven elusive. Civilian casualties are running at record levels, there have been repeated attacks on major cities such as Kabul and Jalalabad, and, while the Taliban has not managed to take any major urban centres, they control large areas of the countryside.

In June, a report by the Pentagon’s lead inspector general offered a downbeat view, saying there was little publicly available evidence that “actions to increase pressure on the Taliban were having a significant impact”. Afghan forces, meanwhile, are chronically understaffed because of heavy casualties and high levels of desertion, and continue to face the problems with organisation and logistics that have long hampered their effectiveness.

Hopes of a breakthrough in achieving peace talks were raised by an unprecedented ceasefire over the Eid holiday in June but optimism was dampened by the fighters’ dramatic assault on the city of Ghazni last month.

“I believe that some of the Taliban want peace also but they are being encouraged to keep fighting,” General John Nicholson, the outgoing commander, said at the ceremony. “It is time for this war in Afghanistan to end,” he said.

Thank God for Trumpy, Blazer. He’s not big on this invading nonsense. He aint gonna invade some country because ”they tried to kill ma Daddy.”

”Freedom and democracy that’s worth invading…for.”

Well, that’s a moot point, isn’t it. Depends on who you talk to. I would probably get a yes response from refugees trying to make landfall in another country.

Trump said he was gonna bring the troops home. He hasn’t. He’s upping the numbers. It’s a waste of time & money. (Small earthquake just now I think. Will check 12.16 pm)

You can see how the Russians fight wars in Chechnya and Syria. They don’t worry about “collateral damage” to civilians. And the Afghans kicked their asses out of the place. It’s a graveyard for foreigners, Afhganistan. They’ve whupped the ass off every invader ever. They ain’t got no damn use for french fries, big macs, KFC, coca cola, Starbucks and Walmart.

That, as I understand it, is in the hands of the military. I think these kefir slurppers are making a mistake not going with Walmart. It’s a one stop shop for making pipe bombs and buying toilets.

WTF do they need pipes for bombs?

              1. They’ve often got spare people for that job
              2. They also have American military grade explosives – these days everybody has
              3. Or they can just wire up unexploded US ordnance. No need for pipes.

And why do they need toilets when they can shit on Americans?

we know the Zionist influence in the MSM,and their success at casting the Jews as perennial victims since WW2.

Israel allocates huge resources to an international campaign to downplay their actions in the ME,and to try and smear or silence any voice that would seek to offer a balanced view.

Their dutiful acolytes are surprisingly well represented in the Antipodes.

It’s all just a Zionist conspiracy right Blazer?

Interestingly that is the stance all of Corbyn’s cult has taken, many of whom have made a number of anti-Semitic comments. Be careful Blazer as taking that route can lead you down a path of starting to sound anti-Semitic.

You have seen only a small amount of what is happening in the UK around it, and every day something new is coming out, but it is becoming more accepted by people of all sides of politics that Labour is institutionally anti-Semitic and Corbyn is at the very least enabling it, at the worst is anti-Semitic himself.

meh, more bullshit clutching at pearls and whining by a fake news reporter about other reporters… it’s all a meaningless focus on the phony controversies whipped up by BLOTUS and his alt-right thugs to divert us from the real issue:

One vast obstruction of justice, and a lawless lying douchebag President trying to escape the grasp of the law and using his powers as President and his outsized Faux-News-fuelled megaphone to evade the law, to become something more than a President
