No PM on Hosking or AM this morning, stale old white men asking pesky questions, when there are so many better things to do.

Say what you like about the man Lurchy I reckon if he offered himself to lead National into the next election they could be on to a winner.

He wouldn’t need any advisers either. He already knows everything.

A two headed National party monster, joint PMs but their egos would not let one enter a room after the other so nothing would ever get done.8 more years of labor

I dunno mate. Can we afford Jacinda? Another term & next thing you know Defence will be buying her her own Dreamliner? They’re not cheap, Lurch. $300m odd.

I believe the Labour caucus room is near Nationals. Once Labour explodes ( implodes?) there will be plenty of room for those Rightie egos. Try two more years of Labour, Lurchy.

I’m actually serious, Corks. Love him or hate him (mostly for me it’s the latter) Hosking, to me, pretty much epitomises National’s founding principles. And he takes positions on issues without faffing about. He usually has a rationale for his position, can explain it simply, & isn’t so rigidly dogmatic he can’t change it in the face of a better argument or more information not previously known. He’s the sort of person National is lacking in its line-up.

               /  4th September 2018

Agreed. No, I was aiming at Lurchy. I could live with the camera cutting to Hoskings as National leader after interviewing Jacinda. At present when they cut to Simon the jarring and vacuousness is grating.

            • robertguyton

               /  4th September 2018

Jacinda would slay Hoskings. National might stay on 45, and that would suit just fine. No non-Nat’s gonna loike Moike.

               /  4th September 2018

If you think that, I would give up the Roundup, Robert. Jacinda has nowhere near the intellectual ability of Hoskings….in my opinion.

               /  4th September 2018

You might be surprised robert. He was a pain in the proverbial on 7 Sharp (but his and Toni’s replacements are a bloody Yawn Fest), & his rapid fire blithering on his radio show can raise ya blood pressure as much as trying to pick out the words in yaw average LA afro rap “song” – but his Mike’s Minute soliloquies in his wife’s jackets can quite often be pretty much on the money to the non-tribals such as my good self. (Not always, but reasonably often.) In the Nat leader or PM role we wouldn’t have to put up with hours of endless blather – he’d be getting 2 or 3 second sound-bites. It would work to his advantage with the peasants.

            • Gezza

               /  4th September 2018

Or if not with the peasants, at least with the self-employed tradespersons, the yeomanry and the landed gentry and their butlers and head cooks.

Having never listened to the man and only ever read comments about him, I can’t present a strong case, so I’ll not squabble over what seems to me to be a lightweight character. He might well be National’s Great Hope; certainly they have no other.

            • Gezza

               /  4th September 2018

Hey, speaking of Great Hopes, has JAG announced any name for her offspring yet? Can’t recall seeing it. (Or is she waiting until it’s old enough to decide what gender it wants to be?)

            • robertguyton

               /  4th September 2018

I don’t know, Gezza. If the Genter’s gender’s the issue, Jamie would do; Leslie, Robin or any of the other gender-non-specific handles we’ve employed for centuries.

Leslie is usually Lesley for a woman.

As Jamie is a diminutive of James, it’s like calling someone Jimmy or Jim. Why anyone would call a child that is beyond me.

    China’s Global Electricity Takeover.

China has invested US$452 billion globally.on electricity transmission ventures.

    Take home points:

1- Major investment globally in vital infrastructure.
2- The simple economic model China uses even though profits are minimal- quite
    unacceptable by Western standards.
3- Advanced transmission technology China offers countries. Chinese technology loses 1% of power via transmission vs 4% for standard technology..
4- Ramifications for national and global security.

China’s Xi offers $60bn in financial support to Africa

Xi Jinping pledges $60bn in financial aid to African countries and pledges to write off debt for poorer nations.

Al Jazeera’s Adrian Brown, reporting from Beijing, said economists and some international financial institutions worry that Chinese loans are burying some countries under massive debt. “It’s hard to think of any country in Africa that has not been touched by China,” he said, adding that China rejects the claim of “debt-trap diplomacy”.

Beijing loaned around $125bn to the continent from 2000 to 2016, according to data from the China-Africa Research Initiative at Washington’s Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.

Every African country is represented at the business forum apart from eSwatini, self-ruled Taiwan’s last African ally that has so far rejected China’s overtures to ditch Taipei and recognise Beijing.

Trev’s agreed to allow an urgent debate on the shambolic mess and inappropriate behaviour of Clare Curran and how it was handled by the weak leadership of Jacinda. Simon getting stuck in now.

        Ho hum.
Dealt with. I hope Jacinda asks about Richard Worth and the rest of the horrid crew whose behaviour Key turned a blind-eye to. Bridges sounds a fool.

Simon said on this side we won’t be weak – we’ll be a strong, stable government delivering real growth etc.

Now Chippy’s sneering at him and reckoning he’s only a vote away from getting the push.

Simon’s having a great time and there are issues for the Government to address, but…
“two snapper short of a resignation” – Chippy said and pointed out how off-topic Bridges had been throughout his rant. Now Chippy’s listing the errant Nats. The Nats should have kept this under their hats, really.

Lol… why do you think we have Google translate? Ask Kitty, she will show you how it works.
It’s great for Latin..and big noting

      • Kitty Catkin

         /  4th September 2018

Hardly great; don’t rely on it for accuracy. If anyone needs to be shown how to work it (it sounds as if you don’t know, or you wouldn’t be advising someone to ask me) they must be rather computer-illiterate.

It’s far better to have actually learned it as I have (school and university) and not rely on Google when you won’t know whether it’s right or not.

It’s good for a laugh to put something you know into it and see what it translates it as.

Still laughing at the idea that I would use Google Translate, especially for Latin.

I looked at it just now….it said that the Latin for ‘please’ was ‘imploro’ 😀 😀 😀

          Spare me.

Yes, imagine if someone believed it and used that.

It also told me that something was the same in English as it was in Latin, which it isn’t (it was a phrase, not a single word that could be)

Google Translate non compos mentis est, as my grandfather would say.

I can already hear yells of “BOHICA” from Public Servants to each other as they duck

Does this look like an honest face?

State Services Minister Chris Hipkins is confident a major reform of the public service into a single system will not see a return to the bloated and inefficient public service of decades ago.

Hipkins today launched a public consultation process ahead of what he called the most significant reform of the public service in 30 years and a major shift in the way it operates.

“The changes would see the public service operate as one, joined-up system to tackle the big, complex challenges facing New Zealand.

It seems that landlords will be required to put heaters in the tenants’ bedrooms.

Will the landlords be prosecuted if the tenants don’t use them ? Or have to pay the power bill if the tenants don’t or won’t ?

There are going to be some busy estate agents.

Dann misses the point, Kaepernick kneeled when Obama was running the place, black men were regularly gunned down by police on a far too regular basis under Obama. Its not a Trump thing its a BLM thing.
