So Obama gave a patriotic speech- and good it was too. He dealt to Trumpy. And Trumpy with a few short words destroyed Obama. That’s the difference with Trump…he gets to the point; deals with the problem as best he can, while destroying his opponent.

Aljazeera tv news had an item this morning on upcoming elections, focussing on the Sweden Democrats party that Missys posted about today:

I was interested in the clip they showed of a young Muslim woman in a lilac-coloured hijab their reporter interviewed who said something along the lines: “They say Islam is not Swedish culture. But I was born here!”

She is totally missing the point. Islam is Arab culture. Backward culture.

  3. Media coverage – Serena Williams 100, Naomi Osaka 1

US Open – Naomi Osaki 6-2, 6-4 versus Serena Williams

Nonsense article regarding her loss I posted about in media watch…

  4. A blast from the past past prompted by someone posting photos of a kookaburra in their garden (in Brisbane). Hearing in particular and seeing kookaburras is always a highlight of visiting Australia, because of childhood memories of going to ‘the pictures’ (now called movies). The Movietone news always started with a pair of kookaburras. I have found a clip of how news was before television.

    Movie clip:

The biggest issue for Williams on the scoreboard was that she was outplayed by a younger version of herself in Osaka, a 20-year-old who is the first player from Japan to win a major singles tennis title and idolizes the 36-year-old American.

She moved to New York at 2 years old yet she is “from Japan”.
Compare that to “New Zealander Lydia Ko” . I’ve got nothing against Lydia Ko except the way she is used (eg as an example of the benefits of immigration).

This was not only 3’s first story, it was announced that it was also going to be on the sports news. Why bother to have it as ‘news’, then ?

How on earth was it sexist etc ? It seemed like a display of bad temper from an entitled diva and plain poor sportsmanship, She can’t expect to be handed the trophy.

She has ruined that poor girl’s day of days. Nothing can make up for having that overshadowing it, no wonder the poor girl was in tears. So would I be.

I have never heard Lydia Ko being used to advocate immigration.
