The 1970’s was full of hard drug related deaths. By 1973 a utopia where “folks painted their faces & wore flowers in their hair” was old news, killed off by Charles Manson.

              Drink PDB?
Between 600 and 800 people in New Zealand have been estimated to die each year from alcohol-related causes (Berl 2009; Connor et al, 2013).
3.9% of health loss from all causes in New Zealand (measured in disability-adjusted life-years) is estimated to be attributable to alcohol (Ministry of Health, 2013a).
In New Zealand, more than half (52%) of alcohol-related deaths in males and one-quarter (25%) of alcohol-related deaths in females are estimated to be due to injuries (Connor et al, 2013).
Nearly one-fifth of all deaths for males and one-tenth of all deaths for females aged between 20 and 24 are attributable to alcohol use (Law Commission, 2009, p72).
Between 18% and 35% of injury-based emergency department presentations are estimated to be alcohol-related, rising to between 60% and 70% during the weekend (Jones et al., 2009; Humphrey et al., 2003).
A study of falls in working adults (aged 25 to 60) found that approximately 20% of unintentional falls at home may be attributable to alcohol consumption (Kool et al., 2008).
Alcohol is involved in half of the patients presenting with facial fractures (Lee and Snape, 2008).
Approximately 45% of fire fatalities each year involve alcohol (Millar, 2005).
Approximately 11% of all drowning between 2010-2012 involve alcohol (Water Safety New Zealand, 2013).

The question was death by drugs .
Many fail to connect drugs to alcohol .
Alcohol is measurably most damaging drug we have in common use here by a significant margin.
              Whataboutisim ?
Yeah you have learnt something many conservatives are accused off frequently so use it to attack others.

              Badly.

              Janis Joplin
Her official cause of death was a heroin overdose, “possibly compounded by alcohol”
              Morrison
The Doors front man’s death has never been properly explained as no autopsy was conducted but he is believed to have choked on his own vomit after drinking heavily in Paris in 1970.
              Jimi Hendrix
Hendrix overdosed on a mixture of barbiturates and alcohol which led him to join the 27 club by choking on his own vomit in a London flat in 1970.

              Note the pattern.

Wrong as usual Griff – the discussion was that the 1970s was some sort of utopia where drugs were not killing people whilst everybody just had a ‘good time’. Anybody with half a brain knows the 1970’s was far from having little drug related deaths or problems, many of the stars from the day were lucky to survive their drug addictions of that period. The harm of alcohol, whether by itself or mixed in a drug cocktail is a totally different subject.

              a more reasonable voice 🙂

the whole issue, is about further vilification of DRUGS, when in REALITY, the majority of Drug-related harm is from Alcohol, tobacco & prescription drugs.

Often ‘drug overdose deaths’ (attributed to Heroin) are actually from synthetic opioids (Prescription drugs) Oxycontin, Fentinyl etc.

As I said ‘public enemy #1.. Drugs’ is still often cannabis; most widely used ‘illegal drug’ & labeled a ‘gateway to hard drugs’ (B-S)
Deaths directly from Cannabis ‘overdose’ or use: ZERO !!
even LSD, has not had any deaths attributed to USE only.. maybe someone thought they could fly or fell in front of a train etc. but not from an overdose causing death ?! :/

Obviously Griff and Zedd have ‘fried’ the remaining half of their brains….”In 1970 and 1971, in New York City, more adolescents, many of them black and Puerto Rican, died of heroin-related incidents than any other cause. “.

Just having a ‘good time’ no doubt. The debate isn’t about alcohol, or drug policy in general, its about the false statement that the 1970s was some sort of drug paradise where all druggies were happy & safe and only in more recent times things have changed. That is bullshit, the 1970s was full of some of the worst drug-addiction ever seen and very little help available to deal with it.

Moving the goalposts is an informal logical fallacy in which previously agreed upon standards for deciding an argument are arbitrarily changed once they have been met. This is usually done by the “losing” side of an argument in a desperate bid to save face. If the goalposts are moved far enough, then the standards can eventually evolve[1] into something that cannot be met no matter what (or anything will meet said standard if the losing side is trying to meet the standard using this tactic). Usually such a tactic is spotted quickly. Often, moving the goalposts is an exercise in slothful induction.

The fallacy is an ad hoc fallacy and an informal fallacy.

When its pointed out that all three deaths involved alcohol .

that would be a great way of wrecking the brand.
They would be advised to develop a separate brand and distance it from coke.

For years now they have resisted partnerships for ready mixed alcopops to preserve brand identity,to even think of cannibis infused concoctions is suicide.

it is not a natural line extension at all .
If you look at Cokes advertising identity for decades …it is ‘the Real thing’..its fun, family and iconic.

A muppet with your understanding of line extension introduced’ new Coke’ to taste more like Pepsi and saw not only sales plummet but a huge outcry from the public .

The entire industry is a scam .
Student visas are a way to get into the first world. An industry has grown up in places like India to exploit our immigration laws. The education provided is make work rubbish . Student visas are also used to depress NZ wages .Many go onto “management positions” …..in your local gas station or burger joint.
National was focused on GDP growth based on importing third world labor and employment conditions not on increasing productivity. National party planed ripoff of hardworking NZ citizens whose real wages have failed to grow along with the economy.
National supporters are to stupid to understand they are transferring tax to low wage employers though subsidizing incomes. We should encourage employers to pay a living wage rather than pay such low rates that we then need to subsidize working family’s
      with welfare payments.

Those workers were in breach of their visa but NZ taxpayers pay for these proscutions.

Oh dear…was she making things up (lying!!!) or did she breach the embargo?

“Prime Minister’s office admits mistake over Ardern’s economic growth ‘hint’ claim

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has suggested she has had a “hint” of what economic growth figures due out this week will show and she is “pretty pleased”.
The Prime Minister’s office is insisting she has not had advance notice of official statistics, after she said in an interview that she was “pleased” by what economic growth figures will show on Thursday.

In an interview with NewstalkZB, Ardern was asked about gross domestic product numbers due out this week, and whether she had seen them.

“I get a hint, yes,” Ardern said.

Host Mike Hosking asked if the numbers were good.

    “I’m pretty pleased,” Ardern said.

Ardern’s office swiftly denied she had seen the figures, which are meant to be under strict embargo until 10:45am on Thursday when they are released by Statistics New Zealand.

“The Prime Minister made a mistake,” a spokesman said.

“She has not seen, because we do not receive, the GDP numbers.”

The spokesman said she “wasn’t giving any indication” of what the figures would show. Instead, she was referring to unaudited financial results of the New Zealand Government, otherwise known as the Crown accounts.

Hosking clearly asked Ardern about “the GDP numbers”.

The speed with which Ardern’s office acknowledged the error reflects how important it is to maintain confidence that market sensitive information handled carefully.”

Sounds pretty clear cut that she has admitted seeing official figures, or has been told by someone in advance. How her office can then say she made a mistake in seeing/hearing anything does not compute.

        For example:

I heard an interesting story on ‘Democracy Now’ (Indep USA news).. a white female Cop in USA, is on bail & faces charges of shooting dead a black man. Reportedly she entered his apartment.. saying she thought it was hers. Then pulled her gun & shot him dead.

Now it is reported that the Police Dept. are looking for reasons to vilify the dead guy.. even saying ‘a small quantity of cannabis & utensils were found at the scene’. Meanwhile the obvious question, about why the female White cop was in HIS apartment & was she perhaps ‘intoxicated’ ? seems to have been totally swept aside. 😦

Let’s hope there is a resignation. Her position seems untenable after lying on television. Love the PC bullshit. That alone gives a great insight into the current state of university culture.

She’s an amorsl stupid scumbag which was clear from the word go on this debacle. And she is now exposed for the world to see.

Let’s see the rest of her Council now. I suspect most are little better. Given the above characteristics she won’t resign until forced and has no shame.
