      Ohhh….how SWEEEEEETTTTT !!!

I haven’t seen any yet, but as last summer was a very ducky one, I hope that this one will be, too.

      Aren’t ducklings enchanting ? Like pooklings !

The dog is finally looking less like Muffin McClay and more like a respectable animal with whom one wouldn’t mind being seen.

I’m not seeing an uptick? Ivan absolutely disgraced himself. Jumped the fence and attacked her, chasing her off from the ducklings, left them huddlng, cheeping, in a frightened little group. I didn’t half give him what for ! I chased him back down to the stream. The bloody nerve ! Not having that sort of thuggery at Pookden Manor, thank you, Ivan ! >:D

Luckily, Dawn was then able to come out from cover, retrieve her babies, and take them away somewhere safe from the blighter.

          What a brute !

Have you handed him a Non-Molestation order ?

Give him a boot up the bum next time.

Poor young Dawn has a limp. She has a leg band on the affected leg. Every duck I have seen with a limp has a leg band. They have all been non-standard colours. Someone is banding fawn and white and piebald coloured ducks. I don’t believe them when they say it doesn’t harm the bird.

It may be annoying, even if it’s not painful (I hope it doesn’t hurt them)

What is the point of the leg bands, do you know ? Dux are not rare or endangered except in duck murder season,

DoC bands native or rare species to monitor for conservation purposes.
NZ Fish and Game seem to be the ones who band game birds, like mallards. I don’t know exactly why they are banding unusual coloured birds. I wonder if they’re breeding them. Mallards will mate with any duck, which is how we’re winding up with unusual coloured mallards. There’s even a white mallard hybrid drake around here at the moment. I thought it was a hen but then realised no, it’s behaviour and companions show that it’s a drake.

The dog has had a haircut and blow wave?

        • Kitty Catkin

A warm bath with 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner to make his skin and fur clean and soft (what a bargain; Silk Baby Shampoo* 2 in 1, $2-3 a bottle, depending on size) and a trim with special haircutting scissors to remove unsightly knots and get the hair out of his eyes….this would cost a lot of money and the ingrate has it for nothing.

No blow wave, he doesn’t need one.

          * it’s also good because it doesn’t sting the eyes as ordinary shampoos do, even dog shampoos from what I gather

It makes them smell lovely, too, like a clean, sweet baby.

The Revlon salon scissors were a real investment at $10 in a sale. They have long handes so that you can see what you’re doing and avoid cuts.

Just fed Ella and Eli. They were late. I’ve explained to them about daylight saving time but I don’t know if they understood the concept. No sign that they understoo,d anyway. Both just looked up at me blankly. Very inscrutable, eels.

Bit of argy bargy when Ella seemed to think he was gatecrashing her table. She may be a bit jealous that he gets away with demanding real meat and getting it. Pity I can’t persuade Eli to branch out into dog or cat roll. He could do with a bit of bulking up, seen next to Ella.

They’ll soon catch on. I imagine.

I wish that daylight saving carried on, it would be nice to have lighter evenings in winter when we’d really appreciate it.

      • 1st equal; they are just as gorgeous in a different way.

Someone released two white dux on the local pond (one had a bit of colour, but the other was pure white) and they have married other dux and added to the colour scheme..

Has anyone ever installed solar tubes ? I am having a maddening time trying to find anything out online. It’s like pulling teeth.

Ex gf has solar water heating .
Her power bill was about 50bucks a month in summer with the 2 girls and me.
The teenage one would shower till the water run out …
Went to 120 to 150 in winter.

How selfish. I’d have turned the tap on and made the shower go cold, or turned the water off at the main. That seems to cure shower hogs.

Do you mean that skylight-type tube thingy?

      • Kitty Catkin

         /  October 3, 2018

Yes. I found two firms that do them; no mention of prices, and looking for them at Bunnings and TradeMe produces various things like fluorescent tubes and solar lights….what should I type in ?

           /  October 3, 2018

Try “solar tube skylights”. There may be some links for how to instal them but I’d be careful about trying to fit those. The last thing you want is a leak in your roof. You might also find installation info on YouTube.

They are DIY, but I wouldn’t.

            I tried that combo 😦

Sorry i got your question wrong
Solar tube skylights work very well
We had them fitted in the hall of the family home and kitchen they made dark spaces surprisingly bright and airy.

??? When I looked, Bunnings offered roofing plastic and skylight windows and……(weeps in fury)

            Many thanks.

My sittingroom needs a window on the north side, and I thought that one of these might be a cheaper and easier option My mother and stepfather had one or two, and they were amazing. it looked as if the light was on. I hear that at first people find themselves reaching for the switch when they leave the room 😀 I can well imagine that.
