Man robbed of car at knifepoint after arranging date via Tinder
A date arranged via Tinder ended with a man being robbed of his car at knifepoint overnight. Around 11.15pm on Wednesday the Hamilton man arranged to meet up with a woman he met on the phone dating app Tinder.

The man had a knife held against his neck before the foursome – two men and two women – stole his car. A pursuit began from Hamilton through Ngāruawāhia and north to Huntly.

The car was abandoned in Huntly where a dog handler began a track and managed to locate the two men, Cherry said.

Meanwhile, Huntly police officers were doing the rounds to locate the others when they came across a suspicious looking vehicle. The car was stopped and inside were the two wanted women, he said. “All four were arrested. It was excellent work by the dog handler, Huntly units and a young constable.

Police were working with the victim and will be speaking to him again on Thursday. Senior Sergeant Simon Cherry urged people to be weary when arranging dates via online and phone dating apps and to meet in a public place. [Possibly the problem was that he was weary, when he should have been a lot more more alert, & wary? – Gezza]

“Be careful about what you are arranging and make sure you have a phone on you to contact people in an emergency.”

Also, maybe take the train or a bus? That always impresses Greenie ladies.
