Russell McVeagh partner resigns

Some change at Russell McVeagh after an investigation confirmed bad behaviour of one of their partners.

RNZ:  Russell McVeagh partner quits after complaints upheld (audio)

The law firm Russell McVeagh has lost one of its partners, after an independent investigation upheld complaints about the man’s drunken behaviour at a client function. Yesterday the law firm’s board chair Malcolm Crotty confirmed a partner – who isn’t named – had resigned. The firm, which provides services to the government, has been in damage control because of serious allegations of sexual misconduct by senior lawyers in 2015 and 2016.

Attitudes and actions are finally changing. Good.

It would serve no purpose, Blazer. He comes from the better side of town and will probably not offend again.

‘ He comes from the better side of town and will probably not offend again.’…more reason to suppose that he…will!

They didn’t name him … but Golriz should have to name her abuser … Right?

Wrong. Golriz is a politician. She has made a public disclosure. We as her employers have the right to ask her to substantiate her allegations, especially given her history of questionable claims.

I don’t think she has to name her abuser. Could be true. Up to individuals whether they believe her or not. I don’t know whether to believe her or not but if she was in a violent relationship there are plenty of them in NZ and she’s out of it now presumably.

Any messages put out there that say you shouldn’t stay with someone who is violent or abusive towards you – whether they are male or female (there’s been evidence posted here in the past that women can be abusers, even violent abusers, too – and men are extremely unlikely to report it) – are good to see.

The lawyer got a bit drunk and there nothing sexual involved yet [use proper non-derogatory names please] has come out against Russell McVeigh. However, [use proper non-derogatory names please] does not think Dr Liz Craig should be held to account for allowing the drunkenness to occur at the Labour Youth Camp.

Yeah, I just heard that, Chucky. He got pissed. Started big-noting and abusing one of the female bar staff at the establishment he was in.
