Damn. Classical Gas like you have never heard. I prefer the original, but the guitar gymnastics are something to behold.

Too fast. It spoils it. I tried the option of playing it at 0.75 speed but then the rhythm’s wrong.

        WHY?

Always sounds nicer on a classical guitar, especially the top notes. To be fair though that one has a whole backing orchestra.

I was just comparing the two. Tommy’s interpretation is valid – I’d enjoy it if I was listening to him live, & he’s jazzing it a bit, but he’s using it to show off how fast and clever he is & I think it loses the “feel”.

The good news: Michael Kiwanuka (and others) will be playing Western Springs, Auckland on January 12th.
The bad news: The headliner is ‘Mumford & Sons’ who play a style of bland and bloodless Indie/Folk which is unaccountably trendy lately. [How’s that for musical snobbery?]

The road is knee deep in birds; either a group of very glossy, iridescent blackbirds (could they be tuis?) were showing off, and Miss Thrush was back.

I’ve got an exceptionally bright blue winged and tailed tui flitting around the stream trees & up in the air like a fantail these past few days. It’s quite quiet for a tui, but really beautiful to look at. Its white lacy shawl is very evident too.

These were very bright for blackbirds, the afternoon sun really made them shine,

Whatever they were, they were gorgeous.

I have been hearing tui songs among others….dawn chorus, indeed. More like all day concert.

The birds seem exceptionally lovely this year, very glossy and polished, every feather in place, all dressed up and ready for summer. Miss Thrush (it’s impossible not to think of her as anything else now) is growing up into a real beauty.

Owls show no sign of going out of fashion as a design. Flamingoes are pretty but they haven’t the character of owls; one can’t do much with a flamingo.

Four kingfishers today. This road ought to be renamed Kingfisher Rd.
